WITNESSES UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM S. ELLIOTT, OF PITTSBURG, PENNSYLVANIA.
BOILER-TUBE CLEANER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 11, 1907.
Application filed April 17, 1905. Serial No. 255.895.
Tube Cleaner, of which the following is a full,
clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 is a side elevation of my improved cleaner head with the turbine partly broken away; Fig. 2 is a sectional side elevation in a plane at right angles to Fig. 1; and Fig. 3 is a cross-section'on the line Ilk-III of Fig. 1.
My invention relates to the class of boiler cleaners wherein heads provided with swinging arms are rotated within the tube at high speed by a turbine or suitable driving connections.
The object of the invention is to provide a simple, cheap and effective device of this character.
In the drawing, 2 represents a turbine, the shaft 3 of which is connected by a universal joint 4 with the head 5. This head is shown as provided with a screw-threaded hole into which the screw stub of one part of the coupling connects. The head is longitudinally slotted, forming side legs 6, 6, between the outer ends of which is pivoted the two-armed lever 7. I have shown this lever as pivoted at its center on a pin 8 extending through the outer ends of the arms 6, the opposite ends of the lever being provided with rotary toothed wheels 9. These wheels preferably extend transversely to the longitudinal axis of the lever, and are preferably graduated in size as shown and spaced apart by washers' upon the securing pin 10 which is held by the throughrivet 11. The rotating wheels are placed at both ends of the two-armed lever, which swings on its pin during the rotating of the head, the wheels at the opposite ends of the lever striking alternate blows upon the scale.
Changes may be made in the form and arrangement of the parts without departing fronrniy invention.
I claim 1. In a tube cleaner, a head carrying a twoarmed lever, both arms of said lever having a rotating cutter thereon, said. lever being arranged to swing freely in a plane longitudinally of the axis of the tool to bring the rotary cutter simultaneously in contact with opposite sides of the tube and a motive device connected to said head to rotate it at a high speed within the tube to be cleaned; substantially as described.
In a tube cleaner, a head having a twoarined lever pivoted on a transverse axis, said lever having a rotary cutter on each arm and arranged to swing freely in longitudinal planes, to bring the cutters simultaneously in contact with the opposite sides of the tube and a motor connected to said head to rotate 'it at a high speed within the tube to be cleaned; substantially as described.
3. In a boiler tube cleaner, a head carrying a two-armed lever, each arm of the lever having a rotary cutter, the lever being arranged to swing freely in longitudinal planes to bring the rotary cutters of the two arms in contact with opposite sides of the tube, and a motor connected to the head to rotate it at high speed to cause vibration of the said lever; substantially as described.
In testimony whereof, I have hereunto set my hand.
WILLIAM s. ELLIOTT.
