To all whom, t may concern:
Be it known that I, HARVEY P. MORSE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Dundee, in the county of Monroe, State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Fence-Posts, and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to fence-posts, and more particularly to compound posts, and has for its object to provide a post including` metallic upper portions and a plastic base, the two being connected in such a manner as to prevent movement and consequent loosening of the metallic portion in the base.
Another object is to provide a post of this kind so that the wires may be quickly and easily secured.
It is to be understood that I do not desire to be limited to the exact details of construction shown and described, for obvious modifications will occur to a person skilled in the art.
In the drawings forming a portion of this speciiication, and inwhich like characters of reference indicate. similar parts in the several views, Figure 1 is an elevational view of the present post. Fig. .2 is a longitudinal section. Fig. 3 is a detail section taken on line 3 3 of Fig. 2 to show the yoke. top plan view. Fig. 5 is a top plan view of a base and posts at the corner of a fence.

Referring now to the drawings, the present invention comprises a plastic base 6, having embedded therein a vertically-extending yoke 7, including spaced side portions 8 and 9 and a connecting top portion 10, the latter extending across a recess 11, formed in the top of the post, and at their lower ends the members 8 and 9 are connected by a bottom member 12, which extends laterally beyond the side members in the form of wings A, as shown. y
The invention includes a metallic post consisting of a vertical web 13, having oppositely-extending vertical flanges 14 at its rearward edge, which lie at right angles to the web and which at the lower end of the web proper are turned'rearwardly at right angles to form feet 15. These feet lie in the recess 11 and are engaged beneath the top member 10 of the yoke, and a bolt 16is engaged in the base and extends upwardly between the feet 15 between the yoke and the post and has a Fig. 4 is a nut 17 engaged with its upper end and bearing upon the feet to prevent removal of the post.
In its forward edge the web 13 has a plurality of vertically-spaced downwardlyslanted notches 18, which receive wires 19, and cam-members 2O are pivoted to the web above the notches for movement into and out of engagement with the wires, and when in such position they extend across the notches above the wires to hold the latter against removal. f
In Fig. 5 there is shown a structure in which an additional metallic post is secured to the base 6 by means of bolts A, embedded inthe base, and with its web 13 extending at right angles to the web of the post engaged in the recess, and to these webs the wires at the corners of the fence may be attached, as will be readily understood.
It will be seen that the nut 17 may be loosened and that the post be easily disengaged from the base, and for this reason the present post is especially adapted for use in cities as supports for street-closing ropes when it is desired that the posts shall be removable.
What is claimed is- 1. The combination with a base, of a yoke carried by lthe base and extending thereabove, a fastening device engaged in the base at one side of the yoke, a post, having spaced feet engaged beneath the yoke and at opposite sides of the fastening device, said fastening device being arranged to hold the feet against movement.
2. The combination with a base, of a post disposed thereupon, spaced feet carried by the post at its lower end, a yoke carried by the base, said feet being removably engaged in the yoke, and means for holding the feet against removal from the yoke.
3. The combination with a base, of a yoke engaged in the base and extending thereabove, a post having spaced feet engaged beneath the yoke and a fastening device engaged in the base and lying between the feet and arranged to hold the post against movement, said feet being formedintegral with the post.
4. The combination with a plastic base, having a recess in its upper surface, of a yoke embedded in the base and including a top member extending across the recess, a post having spaced feet engaged in the recess and extending beneath the yoke, a bolt embedded in the base and extending upwardly be- IOO IIO
