HOUSEHOLD-MILL.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 14, 1906.
Application filed November 10, 1905. Serial No. 286,750.
T0 a/ZZ whom, t may concern:
Be it known that l, JAMES H. JOHNSON, 2nd, a citizen of the United States, residing at Gouverneur, in the county of St. Lawrence, in the State of New York, have invented a useful Improvement in Household-Mills, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in household-mills, and has for its Object to provide a mill that is especially adapted for making baking-powder.
Another object of my invention is to provide a mill that can be used for mixing and pulverizing any ingredients and one in which the ingredients will be thoroughly mixed in a very short time. l
A further object of my invention is to provide a mill that is very simple and cheap in construction and one that is very effective in operation.
With these objects in view my invention consists Of the novel construction and arrangements of parts hereinafter described,
and shown in the accompanying drawings,
in which- Figure l is a perspective view of the mill. Fig. 2 is a vertical section of the mill. Fig.
8 is a front view of the mill, one end partly broken away.
Referring to the drawings, A indicates the base of the mill, which is provided with the upwardly-projecting shoulder A, to which the standard B is secured by the screws B.
The standard B is provided with an opening B2 at its upper end, in which is secured one end of the shaft O by the nut O Mounted loosely on the shaft O is a cylinder D, held away from the standard by a Washer and provided with openings D and D2 in its ends, through which the shaft Oprojects, and having nuts O2, arranged on its end, which prevents the cylinder from coming off the shaft and at the same time holds the removable end D3 in place, which is provided with a flange D", fitting over the cylinderl The end D3 is provided with a handle 5 and an opening D, adjacent its edge, through which the contents of the cylinder to'be removed by the insertion of a spoon or any other implement. Alid D7 is pivoted to one end ofthe opening and is adapted to wing Over and under the spring member D8 and nearly close the opening.
The cylinder is provided with a screwthreaded opening D9, through which the cylinder is adapted to 'be filled, and is closed by a screw-plug D10. Rigidly secured to the shaft O and projecting upwardly at an angle is a pulverizer E, held away from the e-nd of the cylinder by washer E and provided with parallel slots through which the contents of the cylinder are revolved by the handle.
To the shoulder A of the base is secured a flat springF, carrying a cork F at its end, which extends through an opening in the standard and engages the end of the cylinder and prevents it from turning, so that the contents can be easily removed. A box Gis arranged under thecylinder on the base, so as to catch the waste.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. In a device of the kind described, the combination with' a base, of a standard secured to said base, a shaft secured to said standard provided with a slotted mixer extending upwardly at an angle, and a cylinder inclosing saidmixer adapted to rotate on said shaft, for the purpose described.
2. In a device of the kind described the combination with a base of a standard secured to said base, a shaft rigidly secured to said standard, a mixer secured to said shaft, a cylinder loosely mounted on said shaft inclosing said mixer, provided with an opening, a removable end provided with an opening secured on the shaft and over the end of the shaft, a handle secured to the removable end and a spring member carrying a frictional block adapted to engage said cylinder for the purpose described.
