IRON-HEATER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented April 24, 1906.
Application filed September 1 1904. Serial No. 222,971.
To (Ml whont it 71mg concern:
Be it known that I, CORNELIUS PETTY, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Bay Minette, in the county of Baldwin and State of Alabama, have invented a new and Improved Iron-Heater, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
My invention relates to holders for heating flat-irons, its principal objects being to provide a convenient device of this character.
It consists in the various features and conibinations hereinafter described and claimed.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both figures.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of one embodiment of my invention, and Fig. 2 is avertical transverse section therethrough.
In the practical application of my inven tion I provide a base 10 of suitable area supported upon the legs 11. A substantially U- shaped frame 12 is rigidly secured to the base .in any suitable manner, and attached to this frame is a hood 13, preferably of sheet metal and flaring outwardly, the hood comprising a top and side members extending downwardly as far as the base. At each side of the frame is secured a plurality of angular cleats 14, leaving a space in which moves a shield or holding means 16, having at its upper edge a finger-piece 17 for lifting the same. In this shield are formed substantially vertical slots 16 here shown as two in number and of such size as to receive the shank of a flat-iron F, but being preferably too narrow to allow the passage of the handle. The U-shapcd frame 12 is arranged on the base in an inverted position, the legs of the frame being attached thereto, the frame forming a support for the hood.
Fixed to the upper face of the base within the hood are posts 18, carrying a rail or fender-bar 19, which extends rearwardly to each side to the frame.
In use my device is placed in front of such a source of heat as a fireplace, with the opening in the hood turned toward it, and then upon raising the shield the irons may be illtroduced, occupying the position illustrated and limited in inward movement or toward the fire by the fender, while they will be prevented from falling in this direction by the contact of the handle with the shield. When they have become sufficiently hot, the shield is raised and the irons removed.
It will be seen that the irons are securely held out of contact with the ashes and away from the influence of smoke, and yet are effectively exposed to the heat, which is concentrated upon them by the hood. At the same time the handles are largely shielded, so that they do not become unduly warm.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. In an iron-heater, the combination with a base, of a frame rising therefrom, a hood fixed to the frame and extending beyond the base, and means for holding an iron within the hood.
2. In an iron-heater, the combination with a base, of a frame rising therefrom, a hood fixed to the frame and extending beyond the base and flaring outwardly therefrom, and means for holding an iron within the hood.
3. In an iron-heater, the combination with a base, of aframe rising therefrom, cleats fixed to the frame at each side, a shield movable in the cleats, a hood fixed to the frame and extending outwardly from the shield, and means for holding an iron within the hood.
.1. In an iron-heater, the combination with a base, a frame on the base, a hood supported by the frame, a shield movable at the rear of the hood, and means for holding an iron within the hood.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses CORNELIUS PETTY.
W itnesses:
W. I. Ae-nRroN, MILES MAsHBURN.
