Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 1, 1905.
Application sied June 23, 1904i serial No. 213,826.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM WILLIAMS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Boston, county of Suffolk, and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Inkstands, of which the following is a full, clear, and eXact specification.
Y My invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in inkstands, sponge-holders, or the like, such as are ordinarily used by business men uponthei'r desks; and my invention is especially valuable for advertising purposes, as itis simple in construction, and therefore cheap to manufacture, and comprises a useful as well as an ornamental device.
In the accompanying drawings, illustrating my invention, Figure 1 is a front view of an inkstand with one month of the calendar in place therein, and Fig. 2 is a side view of the same with the calendar-cards removed for the sake of clearness.
In the drawings, 1 represents the inkstand proper, which is preferably made from asolid piece of glass or other transparent material,
and it is provided with the -usual centrally! disposed ink-well 2, which may be of any desired shape or size. Adjacent to one face, preferably the front face of the stand, I provide a longitudinal vertical slot 3, extending very nearly the full width and height of the said face, but not quite through the stand, thereby providing a recess or receptacle within which the calendar-cards for the various months may be inserted and securely held therein. Small recesses or finger-holesA 4 may be advantageously provided, whereby the withdrawal of the calendar-cards may be facilitated. It is preferable to have one card for each month of the year, and these may be formed of thin material, so that the whole twelve may be readily inserted in the slot at one time, andas the months change it is only necessary to bring the proper month to the surface. By this means I obtain in one device an inkstand of the desired capacity and a calendar for the year always in place where it will be readily seen. It is also possible to substitute other cards for the calendar-cards, and advertising matter might be utilized to advantage.
Itis obvious that many slight changes might be made without departing from the spirit of my invention; but
What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A device of the character described comprising a combined ink-well and card-support WILLIAM WILLIAMS.
