Description

PATENTED PEB. 21, 1905.
W. LE R. BRYANT.
TUB 0R PAIL CLAMP.
APPLICATION FILED SEPT 6 1.904
UNITED STATES Patented February 21, 1905.
PATENT OFFICE..
TUB OR PAIL CLAMP.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. I783,099, dated February 21, 1905.
Application filed September 6, 1904. Serial No. 223,339.
To Mil whom it may concern,.-
Be it known that I, WILLIAM LE RoY BEY- AN'I, of Springfield, in the county of Windsor and State of Vermont, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Tub or Inail Clamps, of which the following is a specification.
This invention has for its object to provide means for securing to a floor or other support a receptacle having either an open or a closed top.
The invention has special reference to means for securing a cylindrical Vessel or receptacle, such as the tub of an ice-cream freezer, although it may be used for holding' a receptacle of any desired form and size and is not limited to use in connection with cylindrical receptacles, since it may, if desired, be used for holding rectangular boxes.,
The invention consists in the improved clamp or holder which I will now proceed to describe and claim.
Of the accompanying drawings, forminga part of this speciiication. Figure 1 represents a side elevation of a holder embodying my invention applied to a cylindrical tub, the latter being' shown partially in section. Fig.' 2 represents a rear elevation of the rim-engaging jaw. Fig. 3 represents a section on line 3 3 of Fig. 2. Fig. i represents a plan view, and Fig. 5 a rear view, of the body-engaging jaw. Fig. 6 represents a section onY line 6 6 of Fig. 4. Fig. 7 represents a top View, and Fig. 8 a rear elevation of the fulcrumpiece. Fig. 9 represents a section on line9 9 of Fig. 7.
rIhe same letters of reference indicate the same parts in all the ligures.
In the drawings, @represents a cylindrical tub or vessel, here shown as of the form usually employed in ice-cream freezers. My improved holder as a whole comprises a plurality of the hereinafter-described clamps, two of said clamps being shown in the present case, although it is obvious that any other suitable number may be employed, each clamp being a duplicate of the others. The said clamp comprises a rim-engaging jaw Y) a body-engaging jaw 0, an adjustable connection between said jaws, and a f ulcrum (l, adapted to be attached to the oor or other support on which the vessel a rests and to engage the body-.engaging jaw c. rIhe rimengaging jaw b has a body lportion adapted to bear upon and extend across the wall oi' the vessel at the upper end thereof, said body portion having at its inner portion a hook Il', formed to bear on the inner surface of the vessel. At the outer portion of the jaw b is a downwardly-extending arm or finger Z22, formed to bear on the outer surface oi' the vessel.
3 is an ear which projects outwardly from the body portion of the jaw b and is provided with an aperture 5i. The body-engaging jaw c comprises a body portion having a downwardly-projecting arm c', in one side of which is formed a recess or socket c2, having a curved face which forms a seat or bearing for the fulcrum. The jaw c is also provided with oppositelyextending arms c3 c3, which are shaped to conform to a portion of the periphery of the vessel a, as shown in Fig. 4, in which the dotted line a represents the periphery of the vessel. The jaw c is also provided with an ear c4,- having an aperture ci. The adjustable connection between the jaws b and c comprises a rod e, which passes through the apertures in the ears b3 and c*I and is provided at one end with a head e', bearing against one oi' said ears, and at the other end with an adjustable thumb nut @2, engaging a thread Vformed on the rod e and bearing against the other ear. rIfhe fulcrum d comprises a l'lat base CZ', formed to bear upon a floor or other support upon which the vessel a is placed and provided with holes to receive attachingscrews cl2, and an arm d3, projectingupwardly from the base and beyond one edge of the same, said arm having a rounded outer portion formed to engage the fulcrum seat or bearing c2 in the jaw c.
In securing a vessel a by the means above described the vessel is first placed upon the ioor between the fulcrum-pieces, the jaw I) is then applied to the rim of the vessel, and the jaw c is engaged with the fulcrum and with the periphery of the vessel near the bot'- torn of the latter. The nut @Zis then adjusted downwardly upon the rod e, this operation having the effect of drawing the jaws L and c IOO toward each other. The jaw is thus pressed firmly downward against the rim of the vessel, while the jaw c is at the same time given a slight swinging movement on the fulcrum, which movement causes the arms c3 to press firmly against the periphery of the vessel.v
The jaws are therefore adapted to be simultaneously engaged with and disengaged from the vessel.
It will be seen that when the two clamps shown in Fig. 1 have been adjusted in the manner above described the vessel will be irmlysecured in place.
I do not limit myself to the particular form ofthe parts or members of my improved clamp here shown and described, it beingl obvious that the form and construction of the rim-engaging' jaw, the body-engaging jaw having a fulcrum-seat, the adjustable vconnection between said jaws, andl the fulcrum adapted to be secured to a floor and to engage the seat on the body-engaging jaw may be variously modified without departing from the spirit of y my invention.
3. A vessel-clamp comprising a fulcrumpiece adapted to be attached to a support, a body-engaging jaw adapted to engage the fulcrum-piece, a rim-engaging jaw, and a rod having a head bearing on the body-engaging jaw, and an adjustable nut bearing on the rimengaging jaw.
4. A vessel-clamp comprising a fulcrumpiece adapted to be attached to a support, a body-engaging jaw adapted to engage the fulcrum-piece and formed to receive a portion of the periphery of a cylindrical vessel, a rimengaging jaw formed to bear on the upper edge of the vessel, and means for connecting and exerting pressure on said jaws, to simultaneously engage them with a vessel.
5. A vessel-clamp comprising a fulcrumpiece having a base adapted to be attached to a vessel-support, and an arm projecting upwardly from said base, a body-engaging jaw having a seat or bearing adapted to engage said arm, a rim-engaging jaw, and an adjustable connection between said jaws.
6.' A vessel-clamp comprising a fulcrumpiece adapted to be attachedto a support, a body-engaging jaw having a fulcrum seat or bearing, and an outwardly-projecting apertured ear, a rim-engaging jaw having an outwardly-projecting apertured ear, and a rod passing through said ears and having a head bearing on one ear and a nut bearing on the other ear.
In testimony whereof Ihave aiiiXed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
