SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 760,161, dated May 1'7', 1904.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, HARRISON -BnooKs SMITH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Charleston, county of Kanawha, State of Vest Virginia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Golf-Clubs; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

My invention relates to certain improvements in golf-clubs, and particularly to providing an attachment for a golf-club handle of such a character as to furnish an additional Or supplemental lhandle readily removable when not in use and easily adjustable to the individual requirements of the user.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure l represents, partly broken away, a perspective View of a golf-club provided with my improved supplemental handle. Fig. Q represents a sectional view on a plane indicated by j the line 2 2 of Fig. l, and Fig. 3 represents a detached View of the serrated surfaces employed for adjusting or determining the angular position of the supplemental handle with respect to the main handle of the club.

Similar letters of reference indicate similar parts throughout the several views.

Referring to the drawings, A indicates a golf-club of any suitable kind provided with the customary handle B.

C indicates the main'body portion of my supplemental handle, which may be connected to the serrated surface c by means of a screwthread integral with the end piece c, as shown more particularly in Fig. 3, although it will be apparent that the said main body portion of the supplemental handle may be connected to the fitting referred to in any other suitable and approved manner. A corresponding serrated surface d cooperates with the serrated surface a, both being perforated centrally for the reception of a threaded bolt or screw e, having a locking-nutf, the arrangement being such that by engaging the serrated surfaces at any particular point the angular position of the supplemental handle C may be Serial No. 146,939. determined and fixed by setting the lockingnut. The serrated surface (l is carried by a projection g, forming part of a hinge-clamp L, adapted to be set at any particular location along the main handle B and which may be clamped thereon by means of the threaded screw or bolt t' and locking-nut j.

By means of my invention the golfer has at hand an attachment which can readily be temporarily secured to the handle of a driver or any other appropriate golf-club and which permits him to use both hands in manipulating the club, correspondingly increasing the power of the stroke and lessening the liability of its being misdirected. The ready adjustability of the hinge-clamp for connecting the attachment to the main handle and the facility with which the supplemental handle may be set and fixed in any desired angular position adapt the device to the individual requirements of the particular user despite the differences in his stature, length of arms, or size of hand or the like.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim is 1. A golf-club provided with a supplemental handle connected to the main handle and disposed laterally With respect thereto; substantially as described.

2, A golf-club provided with a supplemental handle connected to the main handle and disposed laterally With respect thereto and means for adjusting' or determining the angular position of said supplemental handle; substantially as described.

3. A golf-club provided with a supplemental handle connected to the main handle and disposed laterally With respect thereto and means for adjusting Or determining the angular position of said supplemental handle, said means consisting of'interlocking serrated surfaces and a locking-nut; substantially as described.
