To all whom it may concern.-

Beit known that I, ROBERT A. E. REIGARD, a citizen of the United States, residing at Kittanning, in the county of Armstrong and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Curtain -Pole Hangers; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention is designed to provide a fixture of novel construction for ready attachment to the trimming of a window or door opening without requiring the use of screws", brads, or like fastenings, which usually mar and split the woodwork andrender the operation of attaching and removing the fixture difficult and necessitate the exercise of a degree of skill.

The improvement consists, essentially, of the elemental construction, novel features, and peculiar combinations of the parts, which hereinafter will be more particularly set forth, illustrated, and finally claimed.

In the drawings hereto attached and forming a part of the specification, Figure 1 is a perspective View showing the fixture in operative position. Fig. 2 is a detail view showing the vertical member of the bracket attached to the vertical edge of the trimming of a window or door opening, the horizontal member and the tie-brace being loose. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the bracket detached.

Corresponding and like parts are referred to in the following description and indicated in all the views of the drawings by the same reference characters.

The fixture comprises, essentially, a bracket, attaching means, and an arm having adjustable connection with the bracket to admit of supporting the curtain-pole at a greater or less distance from the wall.

The bracket proper comprises the horizontal element 1, brace 2, and wall member 3, the latter also constituting the vertical attaching member, since it is provided upon its inner side with a series of points or spurs 4, which are adapted to be forced into the vertical edge of the woodwork or trimming 5 of a window or door opening. An arm 6 has adjustable connection with the bracket and is provided at its outer end with a hook 7 for reception of the curtain-pole to be supported. This arm 6 slides through an opening in the part of the bracket between the element 1 and the brace 2 and is adapted to be secured thereto in an adjusted position by means of any suitable fastening, such as the clamp screw 8, which passes through a slot 9 of the said element 1. The particular means resorted to for adjustable connection of the arm 6 with the bracket is unimportant within the purview of the invention so long as provision is had for supporting the curtain-pole at a greater or less distance from the wall.

The attaching means consistof the member 3 and the hinged member 10,'the latter being provided upon its lower face with a series of points or spurs 11 to be forced into the upper edge of the trimming or woodwork 5. The member 10 is hinged or pivoted adjacent to the horizontal elementl of the bracket, this being essential in order to admit of the two sets of points orspurs 4 and 11 being forced into the horizontal and vertical edges of the trimming or woodwork 5,as shown most clearly in Fig. 2. The lower portion of the member 3 is widened and provided with a slot 12, the latter extending upward a short distance from the lower end of the said member 3 and adapted to receive the lower end of the tie-brace 13, by means of which the outer ends of the members 3 and 10 are secured. The tie-brace 13 is pivotally connected at its upper end with the outer end of the hinged member 10, and its lower end is threaded and adapted to receive a washer 14 and a thumb-nut 15, the inner face of the washer 14 being inclined, so as to obtain a firm bearing against the outer side of the member 3. The outer end of the hinged member 10 is formed into a roll and receives the upper bent end of the tie-brace 13, which is pivoted therein so as to swing. The tie-brace 13 is positioned so as to clear the outer face of the trimming or woodwork 5 when the horizontal and vertical edges thereof are clamped between the members3 and 10 of the bracket-attaching means,and,as shown, said tie-brace is outside of a plane touching the inner edges of the members 3 and 10.

When applying the fixture to the trimming or woodwork of any part designed to be draped, the tie-brace 13 is loosened, thereby IOO permitting the hinged member 10 to swing upward, after which the member 3 is placed against the Vertical edge of said trimming 5 and is pressed against said trimming to cause the points or spurs 4 to enter the same. The hinged member 10 is next forced downward upon the horizontal edge of said trimming 5 to compel the points or spurs 11 to enter said trimming, after which the lower end of the tie-brace is fitted into the slot 9 and is secured by tightening the thumb nut 15, thereby drawing the outer ends of the members 3 and 10 together and clamping the corner of the trimming or woodwork 5 between the angle formed between the said members 3 and 10.

Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is 1. In combination with a bracket, attaching means comprising vertical and horizontal members hingedly connected near their inner ends, engaging means between the members and the part to which the bracket is applied, and a tie-brace for drawing the outer ends of said members together to clamp the corner portion of the trimming of a window or door opening between said members, substantially as set forth.

2. In combination with a bracket, attaching means comprising vertical and horizontal members hingedly connected near their inner ends and provided upon theirinner sides with points or spurs, and a tie-brace for drawing the outer ends of said members together, substantially as set forth.

3. In combination with a bracket, attaching means comprising horizontal and vertical members hingedly connected near their inner ends, one of said members having a slot at its outer end, engaging means between the members and the part to which the bracket is applied, and a tie-brace pivotally connected to the outer end of the other memberand adapted to enter the said slot, substantially as specified.

4. In combination with a bracket, attaching means comprising horizontal and vertical members hingedly connected near theirinner ends, one of the members having a slot at its outer end, and the other member havinga roll at its outer end, engaging means between the members and the part to which the bracket is applied, and atie-brace havinga bent end pivotally mounted in said roll and having its opposite end adapted to be detachably fitted in said slot, substantially as set forth.

5. In combination, a bracket, a Wall member joining the inner ends of the horizontal element and brace of said bracket, a horizontal member hinged to the bent-end portion of said wall member, engaging means between the members and the part to which the bracket is applied, and a tie-brace having pivotal connection with the outer end of said hinged memberand adapted to have detachable connection with the outer or lower end of the wall members, substantially as specified.

6. The herein-described fixture comprising a bracket, a supporting-arm having adjustable connection with the bracket, attaching means at the inner end of the bracket comprising vertical and horizontal members hingedly connected near their inner ends and provided upon their inner sides with points or spurs, the lower end of the vertical member being widened and slotted, and a tie-brace for drawing the outer ends of said attaching members together, substantially as set forth.
