PATENT OFFICE.
BAG-HOLDER.
$PECIFIGATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 728,110, dated May 12, 1903.
Application filed August 13,1902- Serial No; 119,518. (NomodelJ To aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, ELMER E. JENKINS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Roch ester, in the county of Olmsted andState of Minnesota, have invented new and useful Improvements in Bag-Holders, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to bag-holders; and the object of the same is to design a device of this character which will be simple in construction and efficient in operation.
The novel construction employed by me in carrying out my invention is fully described in this specification and claimed, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, forming a part thereof, in which Figure 1 is a perspective of my device. Fig. 2 is a detail of the stop. Fig. 3 is a detail of a modified form.
Like numerals of reference designate like parts in the different views of the drawings.
In forming my device two integral V-shaped members 1 are employed, which are pivoted at their vertices on a pintle 2. The members 1 have arms 3 and 4. The arms 3 are bent at right angles at 5 to form jaws 6, which fit within a bag to hold it open. The jaws 6 have free ends 6, which engage and hold the bag against slipping off. The arms 4 form handles for operating the jaws 6 and are apertured at 7 to accommodate links 8, which are connected at one end thereto and at their other ends to a ring 9, which serves as means to suspend the bag-holder and its load. In order to limit the spread of the jaws to prevent bursting the bag, a lug 10 is formed on the vertex of one of the members 1.
In operation the device is hung up by the ring 9, and a bag 11 is engaged on the jaws 6.
In the modified form lugs 12 are formed on the arms 3 and 4 at the bond 5, which lugs 'serve to engage the bag to hold it from slipping off.
I do not wish to belimited as to details of construction, as these may be modified in many particulars without departing from the spirit of my invention. U I
Having described my invention, what I claim as new, and wish to secure by Letters 2. In a bag-holder, the combination of two V-shaped members connected at their vertices by a pintle, one arm of 7 each of said members being bent at right angles to the plane of the V to form straight jaws having free ends for engaging a bag, the other arms of said members forming handles for operating said jaws, a lug formed on the one of said V- shaped members adjacent to the vertex thereof to serve as a stop to determine the spread of the jaws and lugs for engaging a bag, formed on said first-mentioned arms near their points of junction with said jaws, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two subscribing wit nesses.
