Description

No. 724,628: PATENTED APR,"v7,1903. E. THORPE. TELEGRAPH KEY.
A PPLIOATION FILED DEC. 12, 1902.
H0 MODEL.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
EDWIN THOMAS THORPE, OF DICKERSON RUN, PENNSYLVANIA.
TELEG R APH K EY.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 724,628, dated April '7, 1903.
Application filed ljecember 12,190 2 Serial No. 134,896. 0 model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, EDWIN THOMAS THoR'Pn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Dickerson Run, in the county of Fayette and State 'of Pennsylvania, have inventeda new and useful Improvement in Telegraph-Keys, of which improvement the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an improved telegraph-key; and it consists in the certain details of construction and combination of parts, as will be fully' described hereinafter. I
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a side elevation of my improved telegraphkey, the same being partly shown in section and constructed and arranged in accordance with my invention. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the same.
To put my invention into practice, I form from suitable metal, such as brass, a bar 1, having formed integral therewith and at a point near the rear bearings 2, by means of which the said key may be pivotally mounted in a frame common to all class of such instruments. This bar 1 is fitted with the usual adj usting-screws 3 at either side of the pivot and also with their attached locking-screws 3. Near the front end of the bar 1 is formed a slot 9, in which is pivoted a spring-actuated lever 6, and at the extreme end of the bar 1 a button 4 is permanently attached. This finger-button 4 is formed with an annular recess 5 in the to face, in which a disk 8 is made to operate, the said disk being attached to the free end of the lever 6 in a manner that will hold the disk slightly elevated in the recess 5. By this construction and arrangement of a key the same will give a soft yielding ac= tion, relieving the operator from the sharp hard motion when such keys are used constantly.
Other modifications may be made in the'general details of construction without departing from the spirit of the invention. Therefore I do not wish to confine myself to that shown and described.-
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patcut, is
A telegraph-key comprising a pivoted lever 1 having a slot 9 at the curved portion thereof, a button 4 fastened to one end of said lever, the top of the button having a recess 5 with notched Wall, a grooved bottom merging into said notch, a disk seated in said recess, a spring-pressed bar 6 pivotally mounted in said slot and secured at one end to the under face of said disk and guided in said notch, as set forth.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto signed my name in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
EDWIN THOMAS THORPE.
