To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, ISAAC W. AMERMAN and RICHARD LEONARD J OHANNES, citizens of the United States, residing at Nevada, in the county of Vernon and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements inInvalid Reclining-Chairsiand we do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as willenable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The invention relates to invalid-chairs of the reclining type.
The object of the invention is to provide a chair of this character which shall be simple of construction, durable in use, comparatively inexpensive of production, and one which will permit an invalid to attend to the needs of nature without discomforture incident tobefor that particular purpose.
With these objects in View the invention consists in certain novel features of construction and combination of parts, which will be hereinafter fully set forth.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 a perspective view of the chair. longitudinal sectional View through the seatsection, and Fig. 3 is a detail perspective view of the seat-pad.
In the drawings, 1 denotes the parallel side pieces, connected together by cross-rods 2 and 3 at their upper and lower ends and constitute the back-rest section at and the front legs 5 of the chair.
6 denotes parallel side pieces connected at their upper and lower ends by cross-pieces 7 and 8 and pivotally connected intermediate their ends to the side pieces 1. These side pieces 7 and 8 constitute the seat-rest section 9 and rear legs 10 and are provided in their upper edges neartheir rear ends with notches 11.
12 denotes a bail, the'upper ends of the side pieces of which are pivoted tothe side pieces 1 and the lower end of which is adaptedto engage the notches 11 to hold the parts of the chair in desired adjustment.
13 denotes a strip of flexible material of a length sufficient to more than reach from the crossrod 2 to the cross-rod 7 and of a width to fit between the side pieces of the chairfrom b to c is the back-section.
Fig. 2 is a frame. That portion of the strip from a to b is the seat-section and is doubled or reinforced, as shown in Fig. 2, and that portion Each of the ends of the strip are suitably connected to the cross-rods 2 and 7.
The seat-section is provided with acentrally-disposed openin g 14,through which-pr o- -jects a flexible tube 15 of a pad-l6, which is placed upon the seat sectioniaround the opening therein to protect said seat section. The tube .is adapted to lead to a suitable vessel placed beneath the seat-section. This pad'is preferably made fromfabric, and to augment its protective effectiveness it is provided with an apron 17, the inner edge of .which'is sewed to the front wall of the opening in said pad,
\ I thoroughly cleaned when occasion requires. ing moved about from one placejto another ,From the foregoing description, taken'in connection with the accompanying drawings, I
the construction, mode of operation, and advantages of our invention will be readily understood without requiring a more extended explanation.
Various changes in the form proportion, and details of construction may be made within the scope of the invention without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages thereof.
Having thus described our invention, what we claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
