Vashington township,in thepunty of Le? high and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Snow Guards or Fenders; and I hereby de clare that the following is a full, clear, and exact` description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form part of this specification.

This invention is an improved snow guard or fender for use on roofs, its'o'bjectbeing to provide a simple, strong, and near guard which can be readily applied to slate or shingle roofs; and it consists inthe novel construction of the guard-hereinafter described and claimed, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure l is a' perspective view of the complete guard; Fig. 2, an enlarged longitudinal section therethrough, and Fig.v3 an enlarged front view of the guard-plate. The device comprises a guard-plate A and a fastening-bar B. The guard-plate stands transversely of and perpendicular to the barY and is preferably of ornamentall foliated design and provided with a notch a at bottom to fit over the bar B, and on its front side just above the notch is'an abutment C, thev lower end of which rests on top of the bar B and forms a brace for the plate. This abutment isalso shown as provided with a pintle c on its lower end,'which fitsinto ahole b in the bar B and may beriveted thereto, thereby firmly uniting the plate-and bar. Where the parts are to be riveted together, the guard-plate should be made of= 1nalleable or Above the upper end of which (between it and the upper end of abutment C) the extremity of the upturnedend B of bar B is fitted.

The construction of the invention is' perfectly obvious from the drawings and further explanation is unnecessary; but I do not wish to confine myself to any particular size or dimension of parts, nor to any particular'ornamental configuration of the guard-plate, nor to restrict the invention solely for use as a snow-guard.

In Fig. 4 the brace B2 is formed of a separate piece of metal riveted to the outer end of bar B instead of being formed; integral therewith. This obvious modification I consider within the scope ofv myinvention.

Having thus described my invention, what I therefore claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patentthereon, is`

In combination, the fastening-bar-having oneend bent backwardly upon itself to form a brace, and a plate arranged perpendicular to and transversely of the bar, and abutting against the extremity `of the brace, said plate havinganotch to accommodate the bar and securedthereto, substantially as described.

AIn combination, the guard-plate having an abutment on its front sideanda notch in its lower edge; Vwith a fastening-bar lying ltransversely of `the plate, `and extending through the notch therein,`and havingits front end bent backward to form a brace; the extremity'of which is fitted against the plate above the abutment, substantially as described.

3. A snow-guard, comprising a fasteningbar having'one end bent backwardly upon itself at an` angle, and a plate lying transversely of the bar, havingan abutment provided with a pintle engaging anx aperture'in Vthe bar, and a ange above the abutment the extremity of lthe` brace being "confined between the ange and top of abutment, substantially as described.

4. A snow-guard comprisinga plate having an abutment, provided with a pintle to se cu're it to the fastening-bar, a fasteningbar extending 'under and at right angles to the plate, and a brace between the front end of bar and the plate, substantially as described.

5. A snow-guard comprising a fasteningbar, a plate lying transversely of the bar having an abutment resting on the bar and a flange above the abutment, and a brace between the front of plate and front end of bar,
