To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, CHARLES A. DREISBACH, a citizen of the United States, residing at New Haven, in the county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Ironing-Boards,

of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.

My invention relates to improvements in ironing-boards of that class which are designed to be secured to a vertical surface, and refers more especially to the means for detachably securing and supporting the said board in its horizontal position.

Itis the object of my invention, among other things, to construct means to these ends that will be simple in operation, can be manufactured at a minimum cost, and which will support the ironing-board rigidly when secured to the wall; further, to so design the parts that they can be readily attached to or detached from each other, whereby the board can be removed when not in use.

My invention therefore consists in the ironing-board and its supporting means having certain details of construction and combination of parts, as will be hereinafter described, and more particularly pointed out in the claim.

Referring to the drawings, in which like numerals designate like parts in both views, Figure 1 is a perspective view of an ironingboard having my improved supporting means attached thereto, the said ironing-board being secured to the wall in its horizontal and operative position; and Fig. 2 is a fragmentary view of a portion of the ironing-board with the lock-strap attached thereto and showing a vertical section of the sockets attached to the wall.

In the drawings the numeral 1 designates the ironing-board, to which is fixed the two lock-straps 3 by means of wood-screws 2, as shown in Fig. 2. Fastened to the wall are the two lock-strap sockets 4, within which sockets the heads 6 of the lock-straps are adapted to enter andwhen in a horizontal position be retained therein by means of the cross-bar 12 and the lip 5, which projects upwardly and engages with the head (3 of the lock-strap. Upon the under side of the ironing-board is a pole-socket 7, and a corresponding polesocket Sis fixed to the wall below the sockets 4, each of the said sockets 7 and 8 being substantially alike and comprising a base portion 9, through which passes a suitable screw 10 for securing it in its fixed position, and a lip portion 14:, which forms a bottom for the socket shell 13.

It is apparent from the drawings that the ironing-board can be readily secured to the wall by inserting the heads 6 of the lock-straps 3 within the sockets 1 when the ironing-board is in a slightly-inclined position, (see Fig. 2,) and by bringing it to a horizontal position the ironing-board is made fast and prevented from being drawn outward by the engagement of the heads 6 with the lips 5 of the sockets 4. In this position the board is supported by a suitable pole 11, which is secured at its ends in the sockets 7 and 8, as shown in Fig. 1.

In my invention it is not necessary to lift the board to iron skirts, shirts, &c., as the space is entirely clear under the board. when not in use, the board can be taken down. No chairs, horses, tables, 850., are required to support it, and there is no possibility of the board falling down by reason of its support-s slipping or being accidentally moved.

I am aware that devices have been heretofore made for detachably securing an ironing-board to a wall, and therefore do not claim my invention broadly.

What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

In a device of the character described, the combination with the ironing-boardlpof the lock-straps 3 secured thereto and having overhanging head portions 6; strap-sockets 4 having an aperture through the back portion thereof whereby a cross-bar 12 is formed by that part of the back above said aperture, and an integral lip 5; a pole-socket 7 secured to said ironing-board and a similar pole-socket 8 secured to the wall below said strap-sockets, each of said sockets having a bottom portion 14; and a supporting-pole 11, the ends of which are inserted within the pole-sockets 7 and 8 and abut against said bottom portions 14:, all constructed and operating substantially as described. 10
