WAGON-BODY LINING.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 601,976, dated April 5, 1898.
Application filed October 29,1897. Serial No. 656,758. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANK H. MURRAY, a
citizen of the United States, residing at Salina,
in the county of Saline and State ofKansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Wagon-Body Linings; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear,
and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to wagon-body linings; and the object in view is to provide a tight sack which is applicable to the inside of the wagon-body, the improved sack being designed for the purpose of holding securely the grain placed in the body of the wagon and preventing the same from leaking or escaping therefrom.
Other detailed objects and advantages will drawings.
The improved lining contemplated in this invention is in the form of a sack 1, con-v structed, preferably, of canvas, although any suitable material may be employed for this purpose. tom 2, adapted to lie fiat upon the bottom of the wagon-body, the sides 3 extending longitudinally of the wagon-body and adapted to rest against the inner surfaces of the sides and the front end 4. The sides and ends are made of greater height than the height of the sides of the wagon-body, being extended to form flaps 5, which extend over the top edges of the wagon-body and downward on the outside thereof, the said flaps being provided with eyelet-holes 6, whereby they may be the tail-gate.
The sack or liningcomprises a botfastened over the hooks or projecting pins 7 on the wagon-body, thus preventing the displacement of the lining or sack. At the rear end of the lining or sack is a tailpiece 8 of the same material and designed to be hooked over The tailpiece is united at its upper ortion to the sides 3 of the sack, while the lower portion thereof is left loose, thus forming a flap 9 of suificientlengthto extend and to be tucked beneath the bottom 2 of the lining. I
Fromthe foregoing description it will be seen that the lining may be made to fit any desired size wagon-body and that it effectually prevents the escape or leakage of grain or other material through the floor, sides, or joints of the Wagon-body. When it is desired to empty the wagon-body, the tail-gate may be removed or lowered, after which the tailpiece 8, or rather the flap 9 thereof, may be drawn, thus allowing the grain to pass outwardfroin the rear end of the lining or sack ina manner that will be understood.
If desired, the corners of the lining may be divided-0r small squares may be removed from the corners of the lining, so as to enable the side and end flanges to be folded the more tightly and snugly over the sides and ends of the wagon-body. It is also within the scope of this invention to make the tailpiece detachable by connecting same to the sides with the aid of hooks and eyes. I
It will thus be understood that the lining or sack is susceptible of various changes in the form, proportion, and minor details of construction which may be accordingly resorted to without departing from the princip16 or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention. A
. Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. The herein-described lining for wagonbodies, composed of flexible material and embodying a bottom, sides and ends, the rear IOO 2. A lining or sack for Wagon-bodies, comwith eyelets or holes, substantially as deposed of flexible material, and comprising a scribed.
