J. B. BLKER 8u P. J. JACOBS.
CURTAIN POLE.
WTNESSES U M .Ww @I @vf UNITED SrArEs JosErn E. ELKEE AND PETER J. JAooBs, or rITrsBUEe, PENNSYLVANIA.
CU RTAlNv-PO LE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 601,372, dated March 29, 1898.
Application filed April 10, 1 8 9 '7.
To @ZZ whom it may concern,.-
Be it known that we, JOSEPH B. ELKER and PETER J .J AooBs,citizens of the United States, residing at Pittsburg, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements may be raised and lowered for the purpose of zo removing from and replacing the curtain,
thereby overcoming` the necessity of having to mount upon a chair or ladder.
With the above and other objects in View the invention finally consists in the novel con- 2 5 struction, combination, and arrangements of parts, as will be hereinafter more specifically described in detail.
In describing the invention in detail reference is had to the accompanying drawings, 3o forming a part of this specification, and wherein like figures of reference designate like parts, in which- Figure l is a front view of the device as tit is applied to the window-frame. Fig. 2 is a 3 5 side view of the same. Fig. 3 is an enlarged front View of the extension-rod. Fig. 4 is a side elevation of the brackets. Fig. 5 is a -front view of the bracket. Fig. 6 is a plan view of the bracket. Fig. is an enlarged end 4o sectional view through the extension-rod on the line A B of Fig. 3. Fig. 8 is a vertical section on the line a; x of Fig. 3 on an enlarged scale.
Referring to the drawings, the numerals l and l' designate a rod formed of two separate parts or sections. The inner end portion of each section is cut'down in a semicircular form, or halved, so that when they are placed together they will form a rod of the 5o same diameter at all parts. At or near the Serial No. 631,641. (No model.)
inner ends of each of the said sections are secured the collars 2 and 2', which act as guides or keepers when the rodis extended out to various lengths for Window-frames of different widths, as well as various-lengthed poles. 5 5 3 and `3 are cylindrical boxes which contain suitable spring-actuated reels 10 and l0 and to which the supporting tapes or cords 4 and 4 are attached. Arranged upon the curtainpole 5 are the straps 9 and 9', which form a 6o means whereby the said pole is attached to the supporting tapes or cords. A pair of brackets 6 and 6 are suitably attached to the window-frame at a convenient point. Upon each of the said brackets is attached the upwardlyextended and ,adjustable lug-pieces 7 and 7',
which are adapted to form bearings for the support of the extension-rod.
To remove the curtain from the pole, the curtain is grasped at the lower end and pulled 7o down until the pole is in a convenient position for the removal of the curtain, and when in such position it may be held by any suitable means. After replacing the curtain the pole is released and allowed to ascend to its former position by the action of the spring-reels and tapes.
Having thus fully shown and described our invention, what We claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
vIn a curtain-fixture the combination with the brackets comprising the vertical portions, 'and the horizontal portions formedl with slots, the laterally-adjustable bearings seated on said horizontal portions, the set-screws passing through said slots-and engaging with the said bearings, the extensible rod made in two seinicylindrical overlapping sections, with cylindrical outer ends, and the movable collars, of the boxes, the spring-actuated reels, the straps connected therewith and the curtain-pole also connected with said straps, substantially as described.
In testimony .whereof we affix our signatures in presence of two witnesses.
' JOSEPH B. ELKER. PETER J. JACOBS.
