Description

(No Model.)
S. LLOYD. BOW NUT covm FOR VEHICLES.
No. 594,026. Patented Nov. 23, 1897..
www.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
SAMUEL LLOYD, OF WASHINGTON, DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA.
BOW-NUT COVER FOR VEHICLES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 594,026, dated November 23, 1897.
Application filed August 21, 1897. Serial No- 649,042. (No model.)
To 0% whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, SAMUEL LLOYD, a citizen of the United States, residing at Washington, in the District of Columbia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bow-Nut Covers; andI do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact descrip tion of the invention, such as Will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
My invention relates to covers for bownuts, and has for its special object to protect the garments from being torn when entering a buggy or other vehicle. I attain this object by means of the mechanism illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which-- Figure I is an elevation showing the cover fitted over the bow-nut and fastened to the body of the buggy, and Fig. 11 is a side elevation showing the general outline of the cover.
Like letters of reference denote corresponding parts in the several views of the drawings.
A is a piece of material, preferably of metal, shaped to receive at one end B the bow-nut, and having the body D bent inward and preferably convex, terminating in a flattened tip E, where it is fastened to the buggy. At the extreme end of B the device is turned back in the shape of a cup-hook, and the edge of this hook may be cut variously to receive the bow-nut in any of its positions, thus preventing its working loose. A lip C may be made on the side of the cover toward the front of the buggy and further protect the apparel of the rider.
,Heretofore the bownut has frequently caught the pocket or some other part of the clothing and torn the cloth. The use of the bow-nut cover does not allow anything to come in contact with the bow-nut, warding it off by its smooth rounded surface. I do not confine myself to the particular form shown in the drawings, for it may be made to fit over any similar projection which is apt to catch the clothing.
Having described all that is necessary to a full understanding of my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 1s--- 1. A bow-nut cover consisting in the body D, head B, and tip E, substantially as shown.
2. A bow-nut cover consisting in the, body D, head B, and lip O, substantially as shown.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
SAMUEL LLOYD.
