sTovE-Llo.
lSPIECIIEICA'ITION forming part of Letters Patent No. 570,937, dated November 10, 18H96. Application led March 25, 1896. Serial No. 584,790. (No model.)
To @ZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE BEELEY LITTLE- FIELD, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of San Francisco, in the county of San Francisco and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Stove-Lids, of which the followingis a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part thereof, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
This invention relates to stoves and ranges; and the object` thereof is to provide an article of this class with circular openings in the top thereof and combination lids or coverings therefor, the circular openings being preferably arranged in a row of three, and three circular lids or covers being provided, one for each, the construction and arrangement being such that a part of the circular cover for one opening also constitutes a part of the circular cover for the adjacent opening, and
whereby two side openings may be used at the same time or the central opening alone be used.
The invention is fully disclosed in the following specification, of which the accompanying drawings form a part, in which- Figure l is a plan view of a portion of the top of a stove or range provided with my improvement; Fig. 2, a plan View of a portion of one of the circular coverings for one ofA the side openings; Fig. 3, a similar view of a detachable part Vof said covering, which also constitutes a part of the covering` for the central circular opening; Fig. 4, a similar view of a part of the central covering; Fig. 5, a section on the line 5 5 of Fig. 2; Fig. 6, a section on the line 6 6 of Fig. 3, and Fig. 7 a section on the line '7 7 of Fig. 4.
In the drawings forming part of this speciiication, reference being made to Fig. l, A represents the top of a stove or range, and formed therein are two circular side openings B and D, and the spacing between the side openings B and D is cut away, the sides of the cut-out portion being bounded by the segmental lines C, and these lines C form arcs of a circle of the same diameter as the side openings B and D. I also provide lids or covers for the openings thus formed, which consist of five separate parts, which are of the form hereinafter described, and by means of which three circular lids or covers are produced.
Each of the coverings for the side openings B and D consists of a circular plate G, one side of which is cut away or -cut out to form an elliptical portion K, and the irregularformed strip H, which is cut from the center or from between t-he openings B and D, is also detachable, and the elliptical portions K are adapted to be connected with the parts G and also with the central portion H.
Eachof the parts G is provided on the side which is out out with a flange g2 and with projecting arms g3, in which are formed apertures g4, and the central portion H is also provided at each side with flanges h and projecting arms h2, in each of which is formed an aperture h3, and the elliptical portions K are provided with side lianges 7c, which are adapted to rest on the flanges g2 of the side portions G and also upon the anges 7L of the portion I-I, and at each end and on the bottom surface of said portion K are formed or placed twodepending pins k3, one of which is adapted to enter an aperture g4' in each of the arms g3 of one of the parts G, and the other is adapted to enter a corresponding aperture h3 in each of the arms h2 of the part H.
Each of the parts G, H, and K is provided with the usual lid-lifter hole L, into which a lid-lifter is adapted to be inserted, and the operation will be readily understood from the foregoing description when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings and the following statement thereof.
When one of the parts G is raised, the adjacent part K will also be raised, and thus either one or both of the side openings B and D may be used, and when the central part H is raised or removed each of the parts K will be removed therewith, and thus a central circular opening will be uncovered.
The advantages of this form of construction will be apparent to all those familiar with the use of stoves and ranges for cooking and other purposes, and my invention is not limited to the exact form of the parts thereof or of the IOO holes or openings or of the lids vor covers therefor; and I reserve the right to make all such changes in and modifications of the construction herein described as fairly come within the scope of the invention.
Having fully described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patentl. A stove or range provided with three circular removable covers, in the top thereof, which are arranged in line, said covers being composed of five separate pieces, and parts of the two side covers forming corresponding parts of the central cover, and the openings to which said cove s are applied being similarly arranged, substantially as shown and described.
2. A stove or range provided with three circular removable covers, in the top thereof, which are arranged in line, said covers being composed of five separate pieces and parts of the two side covers forming corresponding parts of the central cover, and the openings to which said covers are applied being similarly arranged, and the parts of the side covers which also form parts of the central covers being removable with either the central or the side covers, substantially as shown and described.
3. A stove or range provided With two circular side openings in the top thereof, and the space between Which is also cut ont by segmental lines which form arcs of a circle of the same diameter as the side openings and the openings thus formed being provided with circular covers which consist of iive separate parts, the adjacent sides of the cover being cut out forming elliptical sections or parts which also form part of the central cover, and said parts being combined in such manner that the elliptical sections or parts are removable with the covers of the side openings or with the cover of the central opening, as may be desired, substantially as shown and described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I have signed my name, in presence of the subscribing Witnesses, this 2d day of March, 1896.
GEORGE BEELEY LITTLEFIELD.
