NECK A ND EAR MUFFLER.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 561,186, dated June 2, 1896.

Application filed September 14, 1895. Serial No. 562,510. (No model.)

To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, MARY E. VVIGGIN, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Hartford, in the county of Hartford and State of Connecticut, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Neck and Ear Mufflers, of which the following is a description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, wherein- Figure 1 is a flatwise view of the device. Fig. 2 is a view of the device applied to the human head.

The object of the improvement is the production of a muiiler peculiarly adapted for protecting the neck and ears of human beings from cold. v

In the accompanying drawings the letter A denotes the neck-muffler as a whole.

The letter B denotes the ear-muffiers, which .are approximately kite-shaped, and the letter different curves, as shown, the central curve being between the points where the earmufflers, are attached. Such shape of the upper outline of the neck-muflier adapts it peculiarly to fit the neck of the wearer and at the same time furnishes slightly-projecting points for the attachment of the ear-mufflers. The neck-muffler is provided with a button a and buttonhole a or the like for fastening it in place around the neck.

The kite-like shape of the ear-mufflers furnishes single points of attachment at the lower end to the neck-muflier, which permit these ear-mufliers to take their own shape and set, unimpeded and unaffected by the neck-muflier.

The elastic C not only holds the ear-mufflers in close contact with the ears of the wearer, but also tends to hold the entire structure in proper set and place.

I claim as my improvement In combination, the neck-muflier A having its upper edge cut to parts of three different circles, the kite-shaped ear-mufiiers B attached at the meeting points of said circles, and the elastic C, all substantially as described and for the purposes set forth.
