A l n l UNITED STATES PATENT OEEICE.
HENRY A. JACKSON, OF VASHINGTON, DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA.
KITCH EN-TABLE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 569,135, dated October 6, 1896.
Application filed J' anuary 21, 1896. Serial No. 576 ,323. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY A. JACKSON, of Washington, in the District of Columbia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Kitchen-Tables; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in kitchen-tables, and it has for its object the production of a new and improved article of manufacture of this character which will be simple and inexpensive in construction which will be adapted for use in small rooms and in places of limited floor-space.
The invention will be hereinafter fully set forth, and particularly pointed out in the claim.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure lis a view in perspective. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view. Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional view.
Referring to the drawings, A designates the table proper, provided with the usual top a and legs or supports a. A drawer a2 of any preferred form is arranged in the front face of table A, and sliding shelves or panels d3 are arranged in each end thereof. In the top ci, near its rear edge and back of drawer c2, are formed three, more or less, slots or openings B, extending longitudinally of the table and separated by narrow portions h of said top. A iiange or raised portion b' is secured to the top a and entirely surrounds the edges of all of the slots or openings B. The slots or openings are designed to receive boards C C', the former being intended for a breadboard, while the latter may be used for any preferred purpose, such as cleaning sh and the like. These boards are each provided with a bead or shoulder Z, which is adapted v to rest on the flange or raised portion b', whereby said boards may be supported in a perpendicular position in said slots. Handles b3 are secured to the shouldered ends of boards C C for convenience in withdrawing the same from their respective slots or openings.
D is a supplemental frame or platform resting upon and secured to lower braces CZ for the legs of the table. This frame consists of end bars or pieces CZ', connected by a series of slats d2, said end bars or pieces being secured to braces d 1n any preferred manner.
The
frame D is designed as a rest or support for pans, utensils, dac., when not in use, and the latter may, if desired, be closed from view by a curtain E, sliding upon rods c', said rods being supported by suitable brackets e', secured to the table. Said utensils are prevented from contacting with boards C C by means of a back piece CZX.
From what has been said it will be seen that I have produced a kitchen-tablewhich occupies but a minimum space and which at the same time comprises many advantages in point of simplicity and utility. The frame or platform D may be used for storing utensils when not in use. The drawer a2 serves as a receptacle for small articles. The shelves a3 may be used to support utensils that are being or are about to be used, and when either of the boards C C' are desired for use they may bequickly withdrawn from their supporting slots or sockets and rested on the top lof the table, the bead or shoulder b2 being adapted to rest against the outer forward edge of said table. It will be especially observed that when said boards are not in use they are located in a convenient position entirely out of the way and where theyl may be quickly found when desired for use.
It will be understood that while I have shown and described three slots or openings B and a corresponding number of boards C C', I do not limit myself thereto, and the number may be changed without departing from the spirit of my invention.
I claim as my invention#- The combination with a table provided with one or more longitudinal slots or openings in its top near one side thereof, a iiange or raised portion extending entirely around said slots or openin gs, and a supplemental frame or platform secured to the legs thereof, and provided with a longitudinal back piece of one or more removable slides or boards extended vertically through said slots or openings and having shoulders adapted to rest on Asaid flange or raised portion, whereby said boards are suspended in said slots, substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof I have signed this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
HENRY A. JACKSON; lvitnesses WM. S. LoruoN, WM. S. HoDGEs.
