To all whom it may concern;

Be it known that I, FREDERICK J. W. FISCHER, of Jersey City, in the county of Hudson and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pens, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to pens which have a solid or unsplit nib. Such pens have before been made. Theunsplit nib of such a pen has also been longitudinally and centrally grooved on its under sidefor the purpose of conducting the ink to the point of the pen.

The invention, which resides in a peculiar construction of the pen whereby it is made most desirably elastic for writing purposes, will first be described by reference to theaccompanying drawings, and then will be more particularlypointed out in the claim.

In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective View, on exaggerated scale, of the pen, looking at-its top. Fig. 2 is a like view of the pen from the other side.

A is the metallic pen. It has a solid unsplit nib or point a and the usual hole I) for retaining ink.

The particular feature which characterizes the pen and distinguishes it from others is that it has formed in it a slit or extremely narrow slot 0, which extends parallel with the outer edge of the pen throughout its point or tapered front end. By this slot, which is of V form with the apex toward the nib of the pen, the nib a is caused to be located at the apex of a V-shaped narrow metallic band, the legs of this band formingthe support for the solid nib and giving it most desirable elasticpoint.

I am aware that solid pointed or unsplit 5o pens have been provided in their body and back of the point with one or more holes designed to cause the pen to retain more ink than it otherwise would, and this I do not claim.

What I do claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

The pen A with the slit or narrow slot 0 extending parallel with and at a short distance from the edge of the tapered portion of the pen throughout the length or extent of that portion, the narrow V-band thus divided from the body of the pen having the solid nib a at its apex, with the longitudinal groove (1 in the under side of the nib, as shown and described.
