P. L. WEST.
FLUE STOP. No. 425,479. Patented Apr. 15,1890.
I parts 0' and end posts 0 Through the mid- PHILIP L. WEST, OF
PATENT LYND ON, KANSAS.
FLUE-STOP.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 425,479, dated April 15, 1890.
Application filed July 29, 1889. Serial No. 319,056. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Ee it known that I, PHILIP L. EST, a citizen of the United States, residing at Lyndon, in the county of Osage and State of Kansas, have invented certain new and useful I mprovements in Flue-Stops; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
The special object of my invention is to make for chimney-holes Where the stove-pipe enters a stop which may fit air-tight and be securely held without defacing the wall.
Figure 1 of the drawings is an elevation in perspective; Fig. 2, a central vertical section; Fig. 3, a detail view of the screw, and Fig. 4 a similar view of the two parts of frame.
In the drawings, A represents the flue-stop, mad e, preferably, of malleable metal, coneaved and provided'wit-h the raised rim a. On the latter I secure in any suitable manner the annular strip or packing B, made of asbestus or any other fire-proof material.
Across the middle of the stop A, I fasten by bolts or otherwise the two parts 0 c of the frame 0, each having correspondent middle dle portion 0 passes the screw D. By making the frame in two similar parts I can fit it around the screw before fastening it to the plate A, so that the parts 0' 1; will surround the screw between the collar cl and wrenchhead cl, thus making a swivel-joint while the head (1' rests on the plate, so that its hole (1 will register with the hole a in the plate.
E is a traveling nut, in which the screw turns to move it in either direction, and e e wings, in which are pivoted the arms F, which are themselves pivoted to the links G G. The latter are pivoted in the tops of the posts, so as to turn to or from the screw, while in the screw-collar d is made a square hole (Z to receive the square-ended crank-key H, by which the screw may be rotated. By rotating the screw in one direction the arms F F are brought together, or nearly so, in order that they may be passed through the pipehole. Then the screw is turned in an opposite direction to spread the arms F F, which then clamp the step A firmly against the wall, so as to compress the packing-ring and produce an air-tight joint.
W'hat I claim as new, and desire to protect by Letters Patent, is-
In a flue-stop, the combination, with .the centrally aperturcd plate A and wrenchheaded screw D, having collar (Z, of the frame 0, having middle hole 0 and end pillars c c, said frame being made in two similar parts to fit around the screw, as shown and described. In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
PHILIP L. VEST.
