Description

(No Model.)
' S. B. SALSIOH/ FENCE :eosT.
Paten ted Dec; 17, 1889.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
SHERMAN B. SALSICH, OF MILWAUKEE, ASSIGNOR OF Olt E-I-IALF TO WILLIAM E. RUSSELL, OF I-IARTLAND, XVISCONSIN.
FENCE-POST.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 417,397, dated December 17, 1889.
Application filed December 10, 1888. Serial No. 293,202. (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, SHERMAN B. SALsIcH, of Milwaukee, in the county of Milwaukee, and in the State of Wisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Fence- Posts; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof.
My invention relates to posts for wire fences; and it consists in certain peculiarities of construction and combination of parts, to be hereinafter described with reference to the accompanying drawings and subscquently claimed.
In the drawings, Figure 1 represents a perspective view of a fence-post constructed according to my invention, and Fig. 2 a horizontal section on line 2 2 of the preceding figure.
Referring by letter to the drawings, A represents my improved post, the same being made from flexible sheet metal, preferably galvanized iron.
The blanks for the post are tapered, as is evident from the finished article shown by Fig. 1. Each blank is slitted at the lower end, in order that certain portions of the metal can be bent up at right angles to form lateral ears B, that correspond in number to the sides of the post and serve as supports or anchors for the. finished post, and along its length said blank is stamped out at certain intervals to forin'clips O, the latter being preferably of triangular shape. The main portion of the blank is bent to form a triangle in horizontal section, and while I have shown only one face of the triangle provided with the clips 0 it is obvious that two or all of said faces'may be thus provided, should no skilled labor is requisite to bend said blanks into shape for use as posts.
I am aware that sheet-metal fence-posts of various patterns have been made, and that the clips for securing the strands of wire to such a post are not new, and such I do not claim.
Having thus fully described my invention,
what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
Asheet-metal fence-post tapered as to length and triangular in horizontal section, the lower end of the post split upward for a certain distance at the corners, and the metal between slits bent out at right angles to the post to form lateral ears, substantially as set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand, at Milwaukee,in the county of Milwaukee and State of IVisconsin, in the presence of two witnesses.
SHERMAN B. SALSICIH.
