CHARLES BAKER GRAFTON, OF MASON CITY, ILLINOIS, AS SIGNOR TO OTHO S. KING AND IVILLIAM Y. MOLEMORE, OF SAME PLACE.
BEVERAGE-MIXER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 400,547, dated April 2, 1889.
Application filed August 24:, 1888. Serial No. 283,617. (No model.)
T all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1 CHARLES BAKER CRAF- TON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Mason City, in the county of Mason and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Beveragal/Iixers, of which the following is a specification.
The object of my invention is .to provide a simple, cheap, durable, effective, and easilyoperated milk-shake or lemonade-mixer, and I attain this object by the construction and novel combination of parts, fully set forth hereinafter in connection with the accompanying drawings, and specifically pointed out in the appended claim.
In the drawings, Fig. 1 is a view of the improved shake arranged in the operative position in a glass. Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view of the same.
Referring to the drawings by letter, A designates a cover which is adapted to fit snugly in the top of a glass, and it is provided with a groove, a,in its overhanging flange a,which receives the upper edge of the glass. In a central bearing, 01, in this cover, is mounted the vertical rod or shaft B, which is provided above and below the said bearing with the collars b b, which prevent vertical movement of the shaft.
0 represents a wire which is wound spirally around the vertical rod or shaft above the cover, and D represents a knob or handle mounted on the'rod or shaft and adapted to slide vertically thereon. This knob or handle is provided with a central axial bore, d, to receive the rod or shaft, and a communicating spiral groove or channel, 01, to slide on the It will be seen that the cover is so constructed as to obviate the danger of the contents of the glass being dashed out during the shaking operation. When operating, hold the cover in place on the glass with one hand and move the knob or handle vertically with the other.
The bearing a above referred to, consists of a vertical barrel, G, which passes through registering central apertures inthe cover, and a downwardly-convexed web, I, which is attached to the under side of the cover at its center, the ends of the said barrel being provided with lateral flanges H H to engage the cover anl the web. It will be evident that these flanges receive the impact and the wear of the collars b, and therefore protect the cover.
Having described my invention, I claim-- In a beverage-mixer, the combination of the cover having a central aperture, the downwardly-convexed web I, having a central aperture registering with the aperture in the cover, the bearing a consisting of the vertical barrel G, arranged in the said registering apertures and provided at its upper and lower ends with flanges H H, which bear respectively against the cover and the web, the vertical rod or shaft mounted in the said barrel and provided with collars b b, which bear, respectively, against opposite ends of the barrel, a wire, 0, being wound spirally on that portion of the rod or shaft above the said collars, the beater-wings secured to the rodor shaft below the collars, and the spirally-bored knob or handle sliding on the spirally-wound wire on the upper portion of the rod or shaft, substantially as specified.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto afflxed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
CHARLES BAKER GRAFTON.
