17 Claims, 5 Drawing Figures LANDFILL BUCKET The present invention relates to buckets adapted for attachment to the front of vehicles such as loaders.
Loaders of a wheeled or track type are widely used I for digging, hauling and spreading of earth. Buckets and blades have been especially designed for special tasks and interchanged depending upon the task to be performed. The disposal of solid refuse is an increasingly greater problem for metropolitan areas and even smaller municipalities. A common practice currently in use is to dig a trench, to fill the trench with refuse, and to bury it by covering the refuse with loose dirt.
It is the principal object of the present invention to provide a novel bucket which is so constructed as to .function efficiently in the disposal of solid refuse and to function not only as a loading bucket, but also as a digger and a hauler. The increased height of the bucket of the present invention permits the loader vehicle to push more refuse than can be pushed with a regular bucket or conventional dozer blade. and at the same time the bucket can doze, spread and segregate refuse efficiently.
It is another object to provide a novel bucket wherein the wrapper member is angularly related to the floor member at their line of intersection, has an arcuate or curved surface which is much smaller in extent than the rear wall of the bucket, and has a radius approximately equal to the floor .depth to thereby give increased height for refuse capacity.
A still further objectisto provide a novel bucketwherein the cutting blade protrudes in front of the side plate members and the side plate members are notched or provided with a recess to facilitate the segregation and carrying of refuse such as refrigerators, trees and other objects that normally cannot be carried with a standard bucket.
Yet another object is-to provide a novel landfill bucket with notched side plates and a top wall that extends much further than is customary to thereby increase the capacity that would otherwise be lost becauseof the smaller side walls and that is perforated to prevent curtailment of visibility. Yet a further object-is to provide a novel bucket having an extended front cutting edge and recessed side plates for segregating material, a floor section of flat plate material reinforced by wear plates for strength will be more fully apparent from the claims and from i the description as it proceeds in conjunction with the drawings, wherein:

DETAILED DESCRIPTION Referring now to FIGS. 1 and 2, the landfill bucket 10 of the present invention is shown on the front of a track type vehicle 12; which is of conventional construction. Landfill bucket 10 is an attachment which is interchangeable with dozer blades, loading buckets, snow plows, and like implements customarily used with loaders and tractors. The vehicle 12 has a pair of pusher arms 14 and tilt jack arms 16 which are conventionally controlled by the vehicle operator. The landfill bucket 10 is attached in a conventional manner through the use of hinge pins at 18 and 20 to pusher arms 14 and tilt jack arms I6, respectively.
The bucket 10 is fabricated from a bucket wrapper member 22 which has a surface that is curved so as to provide proper action when dozing. In the illustrated embodiment, wrapper member 22 is part of a cylinder having a horizontal axis 24 and extending across the entire width of the bucket.
Wrapper member 22 is provided with a pair of openings so that the top hinge pins 20 are located forwardly of the front wall of wrapper member 22.
At the lower end of wrapper member 22, there is a floor member 26 which provides a substantially flat loading surface out to the cutting blade 28. The upper surface of cutting blade 28 constitutes a continuation of the flat floor of the bucket and extends forwardly of the wrapper member axis 24 as is illustrated in FIG. 2.
On the back side of the bucket 10, four identical hinge plates 38 are installed as pairs. The two hinge plates 38 in a pair are mounted a few inches apart to be immediately adjacent opposite sides of the pusher and tilt jack arms and to hold the hinge pins 18 and 20. Each hinge plate 38 has a lower portion to which hinge shoes 40 are welded. In approximate alignment with hinge shoes 40 are wear plates 42 which extend forwardly to the rear of cutting blade 28.
A pair of substantially identical side plates 48 and 50 are secured as by welding to the opposite side edges of wrapper member 22 and floor member 26. Each side plate-has a leading edge, located at the surface of floor member 26 and cutting blade 28, which extends upwardly at an oblique angle relative to the vehicle direction. In FIG. 2, the oblique angle between edge 52 and the floor surface is shown to be about 120. Edge 52 extends generally upwardly and rearwardly a distance on the order of l to 2 feet, depending on bucket size, and may be curved or straight as illustrated. The upper point of edge 52 meets at junction 54 with the lower point of leading edge 56. The leading portion of the side plates having edge 56 is disposed in a direction generally perpendicular to the upper surface of floor member 26 and, if extended, would intersect with the upper surface of floor member 26 at a point which is substantially forward of the line of intersection 36 of wrapper member 22 with floor member 26. The region at junction 54 serves as a recess whose function will be discussed in connection with FIG. 3.
Along the leading edges 52 and 56 of side plates 48 and 50 are reinforcing bars 58 and 60, respectively, which strengthen the bucket and add rigidity to the side plates. Reinforcing bar 58 extends from cutting blade 28 past junction 54 to the edge of wrapper member 22. The particular size of the oblique angle is not critical, but advantages accrue from using the illustrated angle since reinforcing bar 48 is disposed so that it provides important added strength to its side plate.
The rear half of cutting blade 28 is secured to the underside of side plates 48 and 50. Extra strength is obtained from gussets 64 and 66 along side plates 48 and 50, respectively, which are welded to cutting blade 28, floor member 26, and the adjacent side plate. Additional support for and to prevent bowing of cutting blade 28 is provided by angles 68 which are welded to blade 28 and floor member 26 and plate 70 which is welded to angle 68 and to blade 28, floor member 26 and wrapper member 22.
The forward half of the cutting blade 28 protrudes in front of the side plates 48 and 50 to thus give the operator exposed side edges 72 and 74 to work with for purposes of segregating material and to facilitate moving the cutting blade under bulky items such as logs or household refrigerators found in solid waste disposal areas and loading of such items on the bucket for haulmg.
Attached to the upper portion ofwrapper member 22 is a protective screen 76 which may be of expanded metal supported by suitable braces 78. The direction of the screen may be along a 45 line to give increased bucket capacity and still miss the radiator guard on the vehicle when the bucket is in its carry attitude, as shown in FIG. 3. The upper edge of the screen 76 lies in a vertical plane that passes through cutting blade 28.
In FIG. 3, the bucket 10 is shown on the front ofa vehicle 12 which is commercially available and delivered with pusher arms 14 and tilt jack arms 16 which have relative dimensions substantially as illustrated. The bucket 10 is adapted to carry earth or trash, as shown by dotted line 80. In order to move the protective screen 76 on the bucket back near the radiator guard on the vehicle and thereby increase the bucket capacity, the tilt jack arm pivot pin 20 must be located forward of the front wall of the wrapper member. in this position of the bucket, the protective screen is substantially vertical.
instead of earth of trash, the bucket 10 is adapted to haul a log, which can be of substantial size. depending on the size of the bucket. In this position of the bucket, edge 52 on the side plates can be made very nearly horizontal while cutting blade 28 is raised to a range between 45 and depending on the angle of pusher arms 14 and tilt jack arms 16.
As shown in FIG. 4, the pusher arms 14 are shown in their elevated position. After the bucket is raised, the tilt jack piston rod may be extended to thereby tilt bucket 10 to its illustrated dump'position.
With reference to FIG. 5, bucket 10 is shown in its dozing or digging attitude while attached to the same vehicle, as shown in the other figures of the drawings. Cutting blade 28 is shown operating below ground line 82, nd the bucket being as wide, or wider, than the vehicle tread, gives protection to tracks and rollers, and
is thus able to serve as a dozer blade, which makes it particularly useful when digging trenches as are used, for example, in disposal of solid waste material.
After a trench is dug, the loose soil can be hauled or pushed to a storage site, whichever is easier. Objects to be buried can be pushed or carried into the trench. The increased height of the bucket 10 permits the track type loader vehicle to push much more refuse than is possible with a conventional bucket or dozer blade. The upper protective screen 76, being of expanded metal, does not materially curtail visibility. Large objects, such as refrigerators, stoves, tree trunks, and the like, can be segregated and loaded onto the bucket and carried, as illustrated in FIG. 3 and dumped in a truck or other vehicle for hauling away. When it is desired to cover the trench, the loose soil can be hauled orpushed back to the trench area and the covering operation completed, all with the use of the single bucket.
The present invention may be embodied in other specific forms without departing from the spirit or essential characteristics thereof. The presently disclosed embodiment is therefore to be considered in all respects as illustrative and not restrictive, the scope of the invention being indicated by the appended claims rather than by the foregoing description, and all changes which come within the meaning and range of equivalency of the claims are therefore intended to be embraced therein.
What is claimed and intended to be covered by Letters Patent is:
l. A landfill bucket for mounting on lift arms and tilt linkages of a loader comprising:
a pair of spaced hinge plates having means for being pivotally connected to loader lift arms and tilt linkages;
a floor member which has a substantially planar area including a length in the direction of forward width of the bucket;
means connecting a rearward portion of said floor member to said hinge plates;
substantially flat plate having an upper surface in substantial alignment with the upper surface of said floor member and extending across the width of said bucket, said flat plate having a forward cutting edge and a rear surface held in abutting relationship with a forward edge of said floor member; bucket wrapper member having a generally cylindrical surface with a horizontal axis, the lower end of said curved surface intersecting with said floor member at an angle along a line which is spaced from both said rearward portion and said forward edge of the floor member and being welded to the floor member along said line; and
pair of substantially identical side plates on opposite sides of said bucket, said plates having their upper portions secured to an upper portion of said bucket and their lower edges secured along opposite sides of said floor member and said flat plate, said side plates having a lower portion leading edge that extends upwardly at an oblique angle relative to the upper surface of said flat plate and an upper portion leading edge that extends substantially perpendicular to the upper surface of said flat plate to thereby form a recess at a junction between said lower and upper portions, the upper surface of said flat plate extending in a forward direction beyond the leading edges of the lower portions of said side plates.
The bucket as claimed in claim 1 wherein the horizontal axis is above and in front of the forward edge of the floor member; and the horizontal distance between the forward cutting edge ofthe flat plate and said intersecting line is substantially equal to the radius of the bucket wrapper cylindrical surface.
A landfill bucket for mounting on lift arms and tilt linkages of a loader comprising: 1
a pair of spaced hinge plates having means for being means connecting a rearward portion of said floor member to said hinge plates;
substantially flat plate having an upper surface in substantial alignment with the upper surface of said floor member and extending across the width of said bucket, said flat plate having a forward cutting edge and a rear surface held in abutting relationship with a forward edge of said floor member; bucket wrapper member having a generally curved surface. the lower end of said curved surface intersecting with said floor member at an angle along a line which is spaced from both said rearward portion and said forward edge of the floor member, the upper end of said wrapper member terminating approximately vertically above said intersecting line;
substantially planar member connected to and extending from the upper end of said bucket wrapper 6 member and terminating at a point which is perpendicular to and passes throughsaid flat plate,
said planar member having perforations of a size and in a pattern sufficient to allow operator visibility through said planar member; and
pair of substantially identical side plates on opposite sides of said bucket, said plates having their upper portions secured to an upper portion of said bucket and their lower edges secured along opposite sides of said floor member and said flat plate, said side plates having a lower portion leading edge that extends upwardly at an oblique angle relative to the upper surface of said flat plate and an upper portion leading edge that extends substantially perpendicular to the upper surface of said flat plate to thereby form a recess at the junction between said lower and upper portions.
4. A landfill bucket for mounting on lift arms and tilt linkages of a loader comprising:
pair of spaced hinge plates having means for being pivotally connected to loader lift arms and tilt linkages;
a floor member which has a substantially planar area including a length in the direction of forward movement of the loader and extending across the width of the bucket;
means connecting a rearward portion of said floor 'said' bucket, said flat plate having a forward cutting edge and a rear surface held in abutting relationship with a forward edge of said floor member;
bucket wrapper member having a generally curved surface, the lower end of said curved surface intersecting with said floor member at an angle along a line which is spaced both from said raarward portion and said forward edge of the floor member;
pair of substantially identical side plates on opposite sides of said bucket, said-plates having their upper portions secured to an upper portion of said bucket and their lower edges secured along opposite sides of said floor member and said flat plate, said side plates having a lower portion leading edge that extends upwardly at an oblique angle relative to the upper surface of said flat plate and an upper portion leading edge that extends substantially perpendicular to the upper surface of said flat plate to thereby form a recess at the junction between said lower and upper portions; and
said hinge plates each having an upper and lower opening for receiving hinge pins, the hinge pin for r the lower opening being on the rear side of said bucket wrapper surface and behind the rear portion of said floor member, and the hinge pin for the upper portion being forward of and below the upper end of said bucket wrapper curved surface.
A landfill bucket for mounting on lift arms and tilt linkages of a loader comprising:
movement of the loader and extending across the width of the bucket; g
means connecting a rearward portion of said floor member to said hinge plates;
a substantially flat plate having an upper surface in substantial alignment with the upper surface of said floor member and extending across the width of said bucket, said flat plate having a forward cutting edge and a rear surface held in abutting relationship with a forward edge of said floor member;
a bucket wrapper member having a generally curved surface, the lower end of said curved surface intersecting with said floor member at an angle along a line which is spaced from both said rearward portion and said forward edge of the floor member;
a pair of substantially identical side plates on opposite sides of said bucket, said plates having their upper portions secured to an upper portion of said bucket and their lower edges securedv along opposite sides of said floor member and said flat plate, said side plates having a lower portion leading edge that extends upwardly at an oblique angle relative to the upper surface of said flat plate and upper portion leading edge that extends substantially perpendicular to the upper surface of said flat plate to thereby form a recess at the junction between said lower and upper portions; and
a pair of reinforcing bars on each side plate, one of said bars extending from the rear half of said flat plate upwardly at said oblique angle to a rear edge portion of said side plate, and the other bar downwardly from an upper portion of said side plate in a direction substantially perpendicular to said flat plate upper surface and intersecting said one bar.
6. A landfill bucket for mounting on lift arms and tilt linkages of a loader comprising:
a pair of spaced hinge plates having means for being pivotally connected to loader lift arms and tilt linkages;
a floor member which has a substantially planar area including a length in the direction of forward movement of the loader and extending across the width of the bucket;
means connecting a rearward portion of said floor member to said hinge plates;
a substantially flat plate having an upper surface in substantial alignment with the upper surface of said floor member and extending across the width of said bucket, said flat plate having a forward cutting edge and a rear surface held in abutting relationship with a forward edge of said floor member;
a bucket wrapper member having a generally curved surface. the lower end of said curved surface intersecting with said floor member at an angle along a line which is spaced from both said rearward portion and said forward edge of the floor member;
a pair of substantially identical side plates on opposite sides of said bucket, said plates having their upperportions secured to an upper portion of said bucket and their lower edges secured along opposite sides of said floor member and said flat plate, said side plates having a lower portion leading edge that extends upwardly at an oblique angle relative to the upper surface of said flat plate and an upper portion leading edge that extends substantially perpendicular to the upper surface of said flat plate to thereby form a recess at the junction between said lower and upper portions; and
means for securing said flat plate to said side plates comprising gusset members welded to said flat plate, said floor member, and said side plate along each side of said bucket; and a pair of spaced plates which extend in a substantially vertical plane, said plates being welded to said flat plate, asid floor member, and the inside surface of said bucket wrapper member.
7. A landfill bucket for mounting on lift arms and tilt linkages of a loader comprising:
a pair of spaced hinge plates having means for being pivotally connected to loader lift arms and tilt linkages;
a floor member having a substantially planar area including a length in the direction of forward movement of the loader and extending across the width of the bucket;
a substantially flat plate having an upper surface in substantial alignment with the upper surface on said floor member and extending across the width of said bucket, said flat plate having a forward cutting edge and a rear surface held in abutting relationship with a forward edge of said floor member;
a bucket wrapper member having a generally curved surface, the lower end of said curved surface intersecting with said floor member;
means securing the wrapper and floor members to said hinge plates;
a pair of substantially identical side plates on opposite sides of said bucket, said plates having their upper portions secured to an upper portion of said bucket and their lower edges secured along opposite sides of said floor member and said flat plate, said side plates having a lower portion leading edge that extends upwardly at an oblique angle relative to the upper surface of said flat plate and an upper portion leading edge that extends substantially perpendicular to the upper surface of said flat plate to thereby form a recess at the junction between said lower and upper portions; and
a pair of reinforcing bars on each side plate, one of said bars extending from the rear half of said flat plate upwardly at said oblique angle to a rear edge portion of said side plate, and the other bar extending downwardly from an upper portion of said side plate in a direction substantially perpendicular to said flat plate upper surface and intersecting said first bar at said recess.
8. The bucket as claimed in claim 7 wherein the curved surface is cylindrical and has a horizontal axis; the horizontal axis is above and in front of the forward edge of the floor member but behind the forward cutting edge of said flat plate; the lower end of said curved surface intersects with said floor member along a line which is spaced centrally between the rearward portion and the forward edge of the floor member and the distance between the forward cutting edge of the flat plate and said intersecitng line is substantially equal to the radius of the bucket wrapper cylindrical surface.
9. The bucket as claimed in claim 8 wherein the upper end of said bucket wrapper member terminates approximately vertically above said intersecting line and said bucket further includesa substantially planar member connected to and extending from the upper end of said bucket wrapper member and terminating at a plane which is perpendicular to and passes through said flat plate, said planar member having perforations of a size and in a pattern sufficient to allow operator of and below the upper end of said bucket wrapper curved surface.
11. The bucket as defined in claim 10 further having means for securing said flat plate to said side plates comprising gusset members welded to said flat plate, said floor member, and said side plate along each side of said bucket,'and a pair of spaced plates which extend in a substantially vertical plane, said plates being welded to said flat plate, said floor member, and the inside surface of said bucket wrapper member.
12. The bucket as defined in claim 7 wherein the hinge plates each have an upper and lower opening for receiving hinge pins, the hinge pins for the lower opening being on the rear side of said bucket wrapper surface and behind the rear portion of said floor member, and the hinge pin for the upper portion being forward of and below theupper end of said bucket wrapper curved surface.
13. The bucket as defined in claim 7 further having means for securing said flat plate to said side plates comprising gusset members welded to said flat plate,
said floor member, and said side plate along each side of said bucket, and a pair of spaced plates which extend in 'a substantially vertical plane, said plates being welded to said flat plate, said floor member, and the inside surface of said bucket wrapper member.
14. A landfill bucket for mounting on lift arms and tilt linkage of a loader comprising: i
a floor member having a substantially flat upper surface area including a length in the direction of forward movement of the loader and extending across the width of the bucket; a cutting blade member mounted in front of said floor member; I a bucketwrapper member having a generally curved surface, the lower end of said curved surface intersecting said floor member at an abrupt angle along a line extending across the width of said floor member and the upper end of said curved surface terminates approximately vertically above said intersecting line on saidfloor member; pair of spaced hinge plate meams adapted for pivotal connection to the loader lift arms and tilt linkages and secured to'said wrapper and floor members; aperforated substantially planar member connected to and extending upwardly at an angle of approximately 45 relative to said flat floorsurface from the upper end of said wrapper member curved surfaee,'and terminating at a plane which is perpendicular to said flat floor surface and passes through said cutting blade member, said planar member having performations of a size and pattern suffic ient to allow operator visibility through said planar member; and a pair of substantially identical side plates on opposite sides of said bucket, said plates having their uppermost portions secured to said perforated planar member, their rear edge portions secured to said wrapper member, and their lower edge portions secured to said floor member and said cutting blade, said side plates having a lower portion leading edge that extends upwardly at an oblique angle relative to said flat floor surface and an'upper portion leading edge that extends substantially perpendicular to said flat floor member to thereby form a recess at the junction between said lower and upper portrons.
15. A landfill bucket for mounting on lift arms and tilt linkages of a loader comprising:
a pair of spaced hinge plates having means for being pivotally connected to loader lift arms andtilt linkages; a bucket member including a lower floor portion having a substantially planar area includin a length in the direction of forward movement 0 the loader and extending across the width of the bucket, a generall curved wrapper portion extending u wardly rom the floor portion, and a substantial y planar member connected to and extending from the upper end of the wrapper portion, the upper end of said planar member terminating at a plane which is perpendicular to and just forwardly of the floor portion planar area, said planar member having perforations of a size and in a pattern sufficient to allow operator visibility through the planar member; means securing the bucket member to said hinge plates; a pair of substantially identical side plates on opposite sides of said bucket, said plates having their upper portions secured to an upper portion of said bucket and their lower edges secured along opposite sides of said planar floor portion, said side plates having-a lower portion leading edge that extends upwardly at an oblique angle relative to the upper surface of said floor portion planar area and an, upper portion leading edge that extends substantially perpendicular to said floor portion planar area to thereby forma recess at the junction between said lower and upper portions; and a pair of reinforcing bars on each side plate, one of said bars extending from the forward edge of said floor portion upwardly at said oblique angle toward a rear edge portion of said side plate, and the other bar extending downwardly from an upper portion of said side plate in a direction substantially perpendicular to said floor portion planar area and intersecting said first bar at said recess. 16. The bucket asdefined in claim 15 wherein the hinge plates each have an upper and lower opening for receiving hinge pins, the hinge pin for the lower opening beingl on the rear side 0 said bucket member and behind t e rear planar area of said floor portion, and the hinge pin for the upper opening being forward of and below the upper end of said generally'curved wrapperyortion. v
l The bucket as defined in claim 15 further having a substantially flat plate having an upper surface in substantial alignment with the'upper surface of said floor portion planar area and extending across the width of said bucket, said flat plate having a forward cutting edge and a rear surface held in abutting relationship with a forward edge of said floor portion; and means for securing said flat plate to said side plates com rising gusset members welded to said flat plate, sai member and said side plate along each side of each bucket; and a pairof spaced plates which extend in a substantially vertical plane, said plates being welded to said flat plate, said floor member, and the inside surface of said bucket vvraPpe r msmlger.
Claims (17)
1. A landfill bucket for mounting on lift arms and tilt linkages of a loader comprising: a pair of spaced hinge plates having means for being pivotally connected to loader lift arms and tilt linkages; a floor member which has a substantially planar area including a length in the direction of forward movement of the loader and extending across the width of the bucket; means connecting a rearward portion of said floor member to said hinge plates; a substantially flat plate having an upper surface in substantial alignment with the upper surface of said floor member and extending across the width of said bucket, said flat plate having a forward cutting edge and a rear surface held in abutting relationship with a forward edge of said floor member; a bucket wrapper member having a generally cylindrical surface with a horizontal axis, the lower end of said curved surface intersecting with said floor member at an angle along a line which is spaced from both said rearward portion and said forward edge of the floor member and being welded to the floor member along said line; and a pair of substantially identical side plates on opposite sides of said bucket, said plates having their upper portions secured to an upper portion of said bucket and their lower edges secured along opposite sides of said floor member and said flat plate, said side plates having a lower portion leading edge that extends upwardly at an oblique angle relative to the upper surface of said flat plate and an upper portion leading edge that extends substantially perpendicular to the upper surface of said flat plate to thereby form a recess at a junction between said lower and upper portions, the upper surface of said flat plate extending in a forward direction beyond the leading edges of the lower portions of said side plates.
2. The bucket as claimed in claim 1 wherein the horizontal axis is above and in front of the forward edge of the floor member; and the horizontal Distance between the forward cutting edge of the flat plate and said intersecting line is substantially equal to the radius of the bucket wrapper cylindrical surface.
3. A landfill bucket for mounting on lift arms and tilt linkages of a loader comprising: a pair of spaced hinge plates having means for being pivotally connected to loader lift arms and tilt linkages; a floor member which has a substantially planar area including a length in the direction of forward movement of the loader and extending across the width of the bucket; means connecting a rearward portion of said floor member to said hinge plates; a substantially flat plate having an upper surface in substantial alignment with the upper surface of said floor member and extending across the width of said bucket, said flat plate having a forward cutting edge and a rear surface held in abutting relationship with a forward edge of said floor member; a bucket wrapper member having a generally curved surface, the lower end of said curved surface intersecting with said floor member at an angle along a line which is spaced from both said rearward portion and said forward edge of the floor member, the upper end of said wrapper member terminating approximately vertically above said intersecting line; a substantially planar member connected to and extending from the upper end of said bucket wrapper member and terminating at a point which is perpendicular to and passes through said flat plate, said planar member having perforations of a size and in a pattern sufficient to allow operator visibility through said planar member; and a pair of substantially identical side plates on opposite sides of said bucket, said plates having their upper portions secured to an upper portion of said bucket and their lower edges secured along opposite sides of said floor member and said flat plate, said side plates having a lower portion leading edge that extends upwardly at an oblique angle relative to the upper surface of said flat plate and an upper portion leading edge that extends substantially perpendicular to the upper surface of said flat plate to thereby form a recess at the junction between said lower and upper portions.
4. A landfill bucket for mounting on lift arms and tilt linkages of a loader comprising: a pair of spaced hinge plates having means for being pivotally connected to loader lift arms and tilt linkages; a floor member which has a substantially planar area including a length in the direction of forward movement of the loader and extending across the width of the bucket; means connecting a rearward portion of said floor member to said hinge plates; a substantially flat plate having an upper surface in substantial alignment with the upper surface of said floor member and extending across the width of said bucket, said flat plate having a forward cutting edge and a rear surface held in abutting relationship with a forward edge of said floor member; a bucket wrapper member having a generally curved surface, the lower end of said curved surface intersecting with said floor member at an angle along a line which is spaced both from said raarward portion and said forward edge of the floor member; a pair of substantially identical side plates on opposite sides of said bucket, said plates having their upper portions secured to an upper portion of said bucket and their lower edges secured along opposite sides of said floor member and said flat plate, said side plates having a lower portion leading edge that extends upwardly at an oblique angle relative to the upper surface of said flat plate and an upper portion leading edge that extends substantially perpendicular to the upper surface of said flat plate to thereby form a recess at the junction between said lower and upper portions; and said hinge plates each having an upper and lower opening for receiving hinge pins, the hinge pin for the lower opening being on the rear side of said bucket wrapper surface and behInd the rear portion of said floor member, and the hinge pin for the upper portion being forward of and below the upper end of said bucket wrapper curved surface.

A landfill bucket for mounting on lift arms and tilt linkages of a loader comprising: a pair of spaced hinge plates having means for being pivotally connected to loader lift arms and tilt linkages; a floor member which has a substantially planar area including a length in the direction of forward movement of the loader and extending across the width of the bucket; means connecting a rearward portion of said floor member to said hinge plates; a substantially flat plate having an upper surface in substantial alignment with the upper surface of said floor member and extending across the width of said bucket, said flat plate having a forward cutting edge and a rear surface held in abutting relationship with a forward edge of said floor member; a bucket wrapper member having a generally curved surface, the lower end of said curved surface intersecting with said floor member at an angle along a line which is spaced from both said rearward portion and said forward edge of the floor member; a pair of substantially identical side plates on opposite sides of said bucket, said plates having their upper portions secured to an upper portion of said bucket and their lower edges secured along opposite sides of said floor member and said flat plate, said side plates having a lower portion leading edge that extends upwardly at an oblique angle relative to the upper surface of said flat plate and upper portion leading edge that extends substantially perpendicular to the upper surface of said flat plate to thereby form a recess at the junction between said lower and upper portions; and a pair of reinforcing bars on each side plate, one of said bars extending from the rear half of said flat plate upwardly at said oblique angle to a rear edge portion of said side plate, and the other bar downwardly from an upper portion of said side plate in a direction substantially perpendicular to said flat plate upper surface and intersecting said one bar.

A landfill bucket for mounting on lift arms and tilt linkages of a loader comprising: a pair of spaced hinge plates having means for being pivotally connected to loader lift arms and tilt linkages; a floor member which has a substantially planar area including a length in the direction of forward movement of the loader and extending across the width of the bucket; means connecting a rearward portion of said floor member to said hinge plates; a substantially flat plate having an upper surface in substantial alignment with the upper surface of said floor member and extending across the width of said bucket, said flat plate having a forward cutting edge and a rear surface held in abutting relationship with a forward edge of said floor member; a bucket wrapper member having a generally curved surface, the lower end of said curved surface intersecting with said floor member at an angle along a line which is spaced from both said rearward portion and said forward edge of the floor member; a pair of substantially identical side plates on opposite sides of said bucket, said plates having their upper portions secured to an upper portion of said bucket and their lower edges secured along opposite sides of said floor member and said flat plate, said side plates having a lower portion leading edge that extends upwardly at an oblique angle relative to the upper surface of said flat plate and an upper portion leading edge that extends substantially perpendicular to the upper surface of said flat plate to thereby form a recess at the junction between said lower and upper portions; and means for securing said flat plate to said side plates comprising gusset members welded to said flat plate, said floor member, and said side plate along each side of said bucket; and a pair of spaced plates which extend in a substantially vertical plaNe, said plates being welded to said flat plate, asid floor member, and the inside surface of said bucket wrapper member.

A landfill bucket for mounting on lift arms and tilt linkages of a loader comprising: a pair of spaced hinge plates having means for being pivotally connected to loader lift arms and tilt linkages; a floor member having a substantially planar area including a length in the direction of forward movement of the loader and extending across the width of the bucket; a substantially flat plate having an upper surface in substantial alignment with the upper surface on said floor member and extending across the width of said bucket, said flat plate having a forward cutting edge and a rear surface held in abutting relationship with a forward edge of said floor member; a bucket wrapper member having a generally curved surface, the lower end of said curved surface intersecting with said floor member; means securing the wrapper and floor members to said hinge plates; a pair of substantially identical side plates on opposite sides of said bucket, said plates having their upper portions secured to an upper portion of said bucket and their lower edges secured along opposite sides of said floor member and said flat plate, said side plates having a lower portion leading edge that extends upwardly at an oblique angle relative to the upper surface of said flat plate and an upper portion leading edge that extends substantially perpendicular to the upper surface of said flat plate to thereby form a recess at the junction between said lower and upper portions; and a pair of reinforcing bars on each side plate, one of said bars extending from the rear half of said flat plate upwardly at said oblique angle to a rear edge portion of said side plate, and the other bar extending downwardly from an upper portion of said side plate in a direction substantially perpendicular to said flat plate upper surface and intersecting said first bar at said recess.
8. The bucket as claimed in claim 7 wherein the curved surface is cylindrical and has a horizontal axis; the horizontal axis is above and in front of the forward edge of the floor member but behind the forward cutting edge of said flat plate; the lower end of said curved surface intersects with said floor member along a line which is spaced centrally between the rearward portion and the forward edge of the floor member and the distance between the forward cutting edge of the flat plate and said intersecitng line is substantially equal to the radius of the bucket wrapper cylindrical surface.

The bucket as claimed in claim 8 wherein the upper end of said bucket wrapper member terminates approximately vertically above said intersecting line and said bucket further includes a substantially planar member connected to and extending from the upper end of said bucket wrapper member and terminating at a plane which is perpendicular to and passes through said flat plate, said planar member having perforations of a size and in a pattern sufficient to allow operator visibility through said planar member.

The bucket as defined in claim 9 wherein the hinge plates each have an upper and lower opening for receiving hinge pins, the hinge pin for the lower opening being on the rear side of said bucket wrapper surface and behind the rear portion of said floor member, and the hinge pin for the upper portion being forward of and below the upper end of said bucket wrapper curved surface.

The bucket as defined in claim 10 further having means for securing said flat plate to said side plates comprising gusset members welded to said flat plate, said floor member, and said side plate along each side of said bucket, and a pair of spaced plates which extend in a substantially vertical plane, said plates being welded to said flat plate, said floor member, and the inside surface of said bucket wrapper member.

The bucket as defined in claim 7 wherein the hinge plates each have an upper and lower opening for receiving hinge pins, the hinge pins for the lower opening being on the rear side of said bucket wrapper surface and behind the rear portion of said floor member, and the hinge pin for the upper portion being forward of and below the upper end of said bucket wrapper curved surface.

The bucket as defined in claim 7 further having means for securing said flat plate to said side plates comprising gusset members welded to said flat plate, said floor member, and said side plate along each side of said bucket, and a pair of spaced plates which extend in a substantially vertical plane, said plates being welded to said flat plate, said floor member, and the inside surface of said bucket wrapper member.

A landfill bucket for mounting on lift arms and tilt linkage of a loader comprising: a floor member having a substantially flat upper surface area including a length in the direction of forward movement of the loader and extending across the width of the bucket; a cutting blade member mounted in front of said floor member; a bucket wrapper member having a generally curved surface, the lower end of said curved surface intersecting said floor member at an abrupt angle along a line extending across the width of said floor member and the upper end of said curved surface terminates approximately vertically above said intersecting line on said floor member; a pair of spaced hinge plate meams adapted for pivotal connection to the loader lift arms and tilt linkages and secured to said wrapper and floor members; a perforated substantially planar member connected to and extending upwardly at an angle of approximately 45* relative to said flat floor surface from the upper end of said wrapper member curved surface, and terminating at a plane which is perpendicular to said flat floor surface and passes through said cutting blade member, said planar member having performations of a size and pattern sufficient to allow operator visibility through said planar member; and a pair of substantially identical side plates on opposite sides of said bucket, said plates having their uppermost portions secured to said perforated planar member, their rear edge portions secured to said wrapper member, and their lower edge portions secured to said floor member and said cutting blade, said side plates having a lower portion leading edge that extends upwardly at an oblique angle relative to said flat floor surface and an upper portion leading edge that extends substantially perpendicular to said flat floor member to thereby form a recess at the junction between said lower and upper portions.
15. A landfill bucket for mounting on lift arms and tilt linkages of a loader comprising: a pair of spaced hinge plates having means for being pivotally connected to loader lift arms and tilt linkages; a bucket member including a lower floor portion having a substantially planar area including a length in the direction of forward movement of the loader and extending across the width of the bucket, a generally curved wrapper portion extending upwardly from the floor portion, and a substantially planar member connected to and extending from the upper end of the wrapper portion, the upper end of said planar member terminating at a plane which is perpendicular to and just forwardly of the floor portion planar area, said planar member having perforations of a size and in a pattern sufficient to allow operator visibility through the planar member; means securing the bucket member to said hinge plates; a pair of substantially identical side plates on opposite sides of said bucket, said plates having their upper portions secured to an upper portion of said bucket and their lower edges secured along opposite sides of said planar floor portion, said side plates having a lower portion leading edge that extends upwardly at an oblique angle relative to the upper surface of said floor portion planar area and an upper portion leading edge that extends sUbstantially perpendicular to said floor portion planar area to thereby form a recess at the junction between said lower and upper portions; and a pair of reinforcing bars on each side plate, one of said bars extending from the forward edge of said floor portion upwardly at said oblique angle toward a rear edge portion of said side plate, and the other bar extending downwardly from an upper portion of said side plate in a direction substantially perpendicular to said floor portion planar area and intersecting said first bar at said recess.
16. The bucket as defined in claim 15 wherein the hinge plates each have an upper and lower opening for receiving hinge pins, the hinge pin for the lower opening being on the rear side of said bucket member and behind the rear planar area of said floor portion, and the hinge pin for the upper opening being forward of and below the upper end of said generally curved wrapper portion.
17. The bucket as defined in claim 15 further having a substantially flat plate having an upper surface in substantial alignment with the upper surface of said floor portion planar area and extending across the width of said bucket, said flat plate having a forward cutting edge and a rear surface held in abutting relationship with a forward edge of said floor portion; and means for securing said flat plate to said side plates comprising gusset members welded to said flat plate, said floor member and said side plate along each side of each bucket; and a pair of spaced plates which extend in a substantially vertical plane, said plates being welded to said flat plate, said floor member, and the inside surface of said bucket wrapper member.
