It is -a -lirst object of the invention to provide a hosiery package including a label which can serve as a support for displaying the hosiery for sale.
It is another object to provide a hosiery package in which a label is provided for identifying the hosiery, the label being `formed to provide a means for holding the hosiery in a stretched condition folded or unfolded.
For further comprehension of the invention, and of the objects and advantages thereof, reference will be had to the `following description and accompanying drawings, and to the appended claims in which the various novel features of the invention are more particularly set forth.
In the accompanying drawings forming a material part of this disclosure:
FIG. l is an elevational view of a package embodying the invention.
FIG. 2 is a sectional view taken on line 2-2 of FIG. 1.
FIG. 3 is a front view of the label in unfolded form.
FIG. 4 is a front view of a blank employed in another package according to the invention.
FIG. 5 is a front elevational view of another hosiery package employing the blank of FIG. 4.
FIG. 6 is a sectional view taken on line 6-6 of FIG. 5.
FIG. 7 is a front elevational view of the package of FIG. 5 in folded form.
FIG. 8 is a rear view of the folded package of FIG. 7.
FIG. 9 is an edgewise view of the lfolded package taken on line 9--9 of FIG. 8.
Referring to FIGS. l-3 of the drawing, there is shown a label 10 which has a generally rectangular body 12 with flap or tab extensions .14, 16 at opposite ends. Holes 18, 20 are formed in spaced alignment on the label on opposite sides of a line of folding A-A as indicated in FIG. 3. Suitable indicia 22, 24 and 26 are provided on the label indicative of the sizes, price and descriptive nature of the hosiery.
A rectangular card 30 is provided lfor supporting the 'hosiery in a stretched condition on the card. Two socks 32, 34 forming a pair are drawn up in tubular overlapping fashion on the card as shown in FIG. 2. The label 10 is folded over the hosiery with the holes 18, 20 in registration with a hole 21 in the card 30 to serve as means for hanging t e hosiery on a hook A of a stand or display shown in the dotted lines in FIG. 2. Staples 36 and 38, or just the single staple 36 will secure the tabs 14, 16 of the label to the opposite sides of the display package. If desired only the folded label can be pasted to the adjacent sides of the hosiery instead of being sta-pled.
In FIGS. 4-9', there is provided a combined label and hosiery supporting form 40 shown as a flat blank in FIG. 4. The blank has a substantially rectangular elongated portion 42 on :which the hosiery 45, 46 can be stretched. The free end 43 of the blank is tapered and narrower than the upper or intermediate portion thereof. The blank has a wider end portion 44 serving as a label and as part of the support for the hosiery. Holes 18a' and 20' are formed in alignment medially of the blank and on opposite sides of line of folding B-B. A slot 48, which is longer than the Width of end 43, is disposed between hole 209 and line B-B. The end portion 44 is formed with a tab extension 14a. Price, size and identification indicia 22a, 24a and 26a are provided on the end portion 44.
FIGS. 5 and 6 show the doubled hosiery 45, 46 stretched over the portion `42 of blank form 40. A staple 47 holds the end label portion 44 folded over the upper part of the hosiery and registering holes 18a and 20a provide means for supporting the package in a suitable display for sale. The package can be further folded on line C-C as shown in FIGS. 7-9. The package is folded along transverse line C-C and the free end 43a of the hosiery is inserted into slot 48 at the rear of the form and engaged between the opposite sections 44a, 44b of end portion 44 just under fold B-B. A staple 49 may be provided to supplement the engagement of the end of the hosiery. The registering holes 18a, 20a are clear and available at the front of the package for engaging on the support. The package is now reduced in size and is rectangular to make a small attractive display. The blank form 40 can be formed of a suitable fairly stiif but pliable sheet of paper, cardboard, berboard, plastic or the like.
It is to be understood that the cards 30 and 40 may also be entirely eliminated in connection with the display of cotton, stretch-type or any other hosiery.
While I have illustrated and described the preferred embodiments of my invention, it is to be understood that I do not limit myself to the precise constructions herein disclosed and that various changes and modications may be made within the scope of the invention as deiined in the appended claim.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by United States Letters Patent A hosiery package comprising a substantially stiff, pliable flat cardboard body having a narrowed tapered end and a wider end, said wider end serving as a label, an article of hosiery in stretched condition around said body, said body having spaced holes in registering position to provide a means for receiving a support for the hosiery packages, said wider end being folded on a transverse line to overlap a part of said article of hosiery, and staple means securing the folded end of the body to the overlapped part of the article of hosiery and to said narrowed tapered end of the body, said body having a transverse lot located between one of said holes and the transverse line of folding for receiving a free end of the article of hosiery, said article and said body being then folded on another transverse line, said free end of the -article extending between opposed sections of the folded body and engaging under the first-named transverse line of folding leaving the registering holes clear for engaging a support means therein.
