This invention relates to an advertising display device and itparticularly relates to one of the collapsible type characterized by extreme simplicity and having provision for the support of a mobile. I

In thepreparation of advertising material by a manufacturing organization which material is to be shipped to dealers at points substantially remotefrom the manufacturing plant, particularly, where a plurality of pieces of advertising material are used forpresenting a series of displays to beutilized successively by the dealer, it is highly desirable for such material to be capable of preparation and shipment in a flat condition and subsequently to be assembled by the dealer into the proper condition for display. However, for obvious reasons, and particularly where very large numbers of; such items are to be prepared and distributed to a nation-wide organization of dealers. or retail outlets, it is highly desirable that the devices be of maximum simplicity in order to efiect a minimum of cost in carrying out the desired advertising program. On the other hand, it is equally desirable that the advertising material provided be of'sufliciently novel appearance that it will catch attention and will provide an impression in the mind of the observer which will be readily retained. V

' Accordingly, a principal object of the invention is to provide a-device-capable of receiving advertising copy thereon'which will-combine minimum cost in preparation together with a sufliciently novel and attractive appearmice that it Will-bereadily remembered by the observer.

A further object of the invention is to provide an advertising device, as aforesaid, which can be prepared and shipped in flat condition but can be readily assembled into display position by a-dealer' or retailer.

A further object of-the invention is to provide an ad vertising device, as aforesaid, which when assembled will have an appearance consistent and compatible with store furniture of modern design.

A further object of the invention is to provide an advertising device, as aforesaid, with which different and replaceable types of mobiles can be readily utilized.

A further object of the invention is to provide an advertising device, as aforesaid, which can be readily modified to assume a wide variety of specific forms without departure from the general organization of the device in order that a plurality of specific designs can be created and all will be of sufficiently similar design to be compatible with each other and therefore useable as different items in a series.

A further object of the invention is to provide an advertising device, as aforesaid, which will be of sufliciently low cost, both from the standpoint of materials used and from the standpoint of labor involved in making same, that it will be feasible to provide such devices in large numbers to dealers and retailers without incurring excessive cost. 7

Other objects and purposes of the invention will be apparent to persons acquainted with devices of this general type upon reading of the following specification and an inspection of the accompanying drawings.

' General description In general, theinvention comprises a single sheetvof resilient paper or light paper board that is adapted to be;

bowed or bent into an arc and held in the bowed position by means of a flexible member, as a thread or string,

Turning now to the drawings in more detail, there is shown a sheet having a main section or panel 1 which may be printed as desired on either or both sides thereof, the reference numeral 2 schematically indicating the appearance of advertising material on the concave side. -A support section 3 optionally may be provided as a separate section or panel which extends beyond the main section 1', is creased with' respect thereto along the line 4 and may, if desired, have further advertising material thereon as indicated at 5. A flexible member, as a thread or string 6, is fastened adjacent one edge 10 of the main providinga knot 7 in the end of'said flexible'member and opening 8 located adjacent said one edge.

- The opposite end of said flexible member-is also knotted as at 9 and the opposite edge 11 0f said main section has a slot 12thereinfor reception of said flexible member. Said flexible member is of length suflicientlyfless than the distance between the points of attachment to said main section such that when the flexible member is inserted into the slot 12 and the knot 9 permitted to pull up against the opposite side of said main section, the main section will assume a bowed or arcuate shape as appearing in FIGURE 1. Any desired type of mobile 13 may be placed upon the flexible member 6 by permanent means such as gluing if desired but preferably by means permitting easy replacement thereof such as by the tab 14. If a double thread is used, as shown in FIGURE 5 at 15 and 16, a mobile 13a can be supported betweenthe threads and the tension placed on the threads by the bowing of the main section will securely hold the mobile in place.

If desired the support section 3 may be omitted but both the appearance and the stability of the advertising device will be somewhat sacrificed by such omission.

As clearly' shown in the drawings, the string 6 is of sufficiently small diameter that its presence will not inter-- said string, will appear suspended in front of said con- 7 cave surface and will attract attention thereto. 7

It will be recognized that the manufacturing operations involved in preparing the advertising device for shipment "are all extremely simple, and will require a minimum of equipment. Therefore, the device may be prepared for shipment in the flat form shown in FIGURE 4,

V shipped to dealers, retailers or other users thereof as desired, can be stored in this condition by them conveniently andeventually assembled into a display position merely by bending back the support section for use to the position shown in FIGURE 1 and by inserting the free end of a flexible member 6 into the slot 12 and per mitting the resiliency of the main section 1 to draw the knot 9 up against said sheet. One or more mobiles, if used, may then be placed into position on the flexible member 6 or between the strings 15 and 16 and the device is ready for display. While a specific embodiment has been utilized herei for illustrative purposes,'it will be recognized that such a use is illustrative only and reference to details-of construction will-not be considercdas limiting.

I claim:

' 1. An advertising display consists of a substantially rectangular, resilient sheet capable of receiving advertising indicia thereon and having a fold line extending between opposite edges thereof and parallel with the other two edges thereof and dividing said sheet into two panels which extend at an angleto each other; an elongated flexible string, one end of said string'being'removably connected to said sheet at one of said, other two edges and the other end of said string{being connected to said sheet at said fold line, said connections being at corresponding points substantially midway between said two opposite edges and the length of said string being less than the distance between said'one edge and said fold line when said sheet is flat so that the panel between said one edge and said-fold line is in a bowed condition and said string is located in front of and spaced from the concave surface .of the bowed panel; and a mobile secured to said string between said fold line and said one edge for movement around the lengthwise axis of said string, said string being held in tension by the resiliency of said bowed panel, whereby movement of said mobile attracts attention to said advertising indicia 0n the concave surface of said bowed panel.
