Be it known that- I, (Jr-Lianne L. tune, a citizen of the United States, residing at Lake City, in the county of Vabasha and State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and use :t'ul Improvements in Apparatus for \Vashing Dishes; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being bad to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.

The present invention has relation to certain .new and useful improvements in that class of washin and sprinkling apparatus for domestic purposes, in which is employed a pail or tank provided with a rack for the dishes or other like articles to be washed, a forcepump with treadlc attachment for operating it, and means for throwing the water in sprays in opposite directions against the dishes.

The devices which have one or more of the above-1n entioned characteristics are the class to which my invention more nearly relates; and it therefore has for its object to improve the construction and render the apparatus more effective and certain in its results, and to supply devices whereby the pump can be worked either by hand or foot power, as found desirable. These objects I attain by the construction, substantially as shown in the drawings and hereinafter described and claimed.

In the drawings, A represents a suitable pail or tank provi ded with a removable water-tight cover, 13, and a handle, a. Secured upon the interior of this pail A is a suitable force-pump, 0, provided with an inlet-valve, b, and outletvalve 0, its plunger-rod D extending up some distance above the top of said pail or tank, and terminating in a handle, (I. To this plunger-rod I) is connected a treadle, E, extending down the outside of the pail or tank through guidesl to near its base, a spring, 6, operating to force said plunger-rod back after being pressed down, this trcadleconnection admitting of the pump being worked by either hand or foot power, or both, as the operator may prefer or find necessary, the base of the pail or tank being provided with openings f, in which the operator places his foot to steady said pail or tank when working the pump.

Adapted to be tightly secured to the outletvalve 0 of the pump is a tube, F, provided at or near its ends with suitable sprinklers, 5/, through which the water is forced in opposite direction for washing clothes, vegetables, or dishes, which are intended to be placed upon a perforated shelf or rack, G, adapted to fit Within the pail or tank about midway between the sprinklers g. he water being thus forced in opposite directions upon the articles on said shelf, a rapid and effective cleaning is accom plished.

For washing bottles, jars, or cans, an attachment is used consisting of a T-shaped tube, H, adapted to fit over the valve 0 of the pump, and having projecting from its top smaller vertical tubes h of any desired or convenient number, said tubes being provided at their top with suitable means, such as a loop secured across their openings for the purpose of converting the i'orcedup water into spray, the bottles, jars, or like articles being placed over the tubes bottom up and thoroughly cleansed byaction of the spray.

If desired, a single tapering tube, 1, may be employed for washing jugs, bottles, cans, or jars, said tube being adapted to fit over the valve 0, and being provided at its upper end with 'means similar to that upon the tubes h, for converting the water into spray as it is l'orced out through the opening in said end.

For window cleaning or sprinkling purposes I. employ a hose adapted to have one end fitted over the valve 0 of the pump, said hose being provided at its other end with a rosehead to convert the forced-up water into spray. This hose,whcn not in use,nia v be,i'or convenience,coiled upon and secured to the cover of the pail.

Adapted to fit tightly over the valve- 0 of the forcepump is a tube, 1i, provided at its upper end with an elbow, i, having a downwardly projecting nozzle, 7;, said elbow being so con structed that the action of the water when forced through. will cause it to revolve, thereby concentrating the full forceinto one down ward stream upon clothes or other articles to be washed in such a manner as to admit of an equal distribution through all parts of the pail or tank.

Having now described my invention, whatI claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, isv 1. The combination, with a suitable pail or tank provided with a sprinkling or washing device, and a force-pump having a piston adapted to be operated by hand, of a treadleattachment consisting of a rod passing through guides upon the exterior of the pail or tank, and connected at its upper end to the piston rod, and a spring coiled around it and bearing against the top or cover of said tank or pail and against the bent or upper end of the treadle-rod, whereby the pump is adapted to be operated either by hand or foot power, substantially as specified.

2. A suitable pail or tank having arranged within the same a suitable pump adapted to be operated by hand or foot power, in combination with a shelf or rack and a centrallyarranged tube communicating with the lower extremity of the pump and extending upwardly through the shelf or rack, and provided with sprinklers, one above and the other be low said shelf or rack, whereby the water will 'be forced upward through a single tube and be ejected in opposite directions and at an angle against the articles resting on the shelf,

substantially as and for the purpose specified.
