(Cl. 273-128) This invention pertains to improvements in a shuflieboard disc waxing device and is particularly directed to a self-contained apparatus within the disc for distributing wax on the underside sliding surface of the disc when in use.
One of the objects of this invention is to provide a self-contained wax distributing device for the sliding surface of a shufi'leboard disc located within the disc itself.
Another object of this invention is to provide a wax distributing device within a shufileboard disc which may be adjusted for any amount of discharge of the Wax on the sliding surface of the disc.
A further object of this invention is to provide a shufileboard disc with a wax dispenser therein which applies the wax directly under the sliding surface of the disc as it glides over the surface of the shuflleboard court.
Further features and advantages of this invention will appear from a detailed description of the drawings in which:
FIG. 1 is a general perspective view of a shuflieboard court showing the shufileboard disc of this invention in use.
FIG. 2 is a plan view of a shufiieboard disc incorporating the features of this invention.
FIG. 3 is a sectional view on the line 33 of FIG. 2.
FIG. 4 is a sectional view on the line 44 of FIG. 3.
FIG. 5 is a perspective view of the adjustable container for regulating the flow of wax tothe underside of the disc.
As an example of one embodiment of this invention,
there is shown a shufiieboard disc having a bottom slid- 1 ing surface 11, a peripheral surface 12, and the top sur face 13. The disc 10 is provided with the centrally positioned recess 14 formed by the bore 15 and the radially disposed bore bottom surface 16. Centrally of the bore 15 is formed a boss 17 comprising the larger diameter portion 18 on top of which is located the smaller diameter portion 19, both of which are formed integral with the shufiieboard disc 10. An upstanding stud 20 is fixed in the boss centrally of the bore 15 and has a threaded upper end portion 21. A series of circumferentially spaced discharge holes 22 are radially disposed about the axis 23 of the bore 15 and open outwardly in the bottom surface 11 of the disc 10.
A wax supply and feed member 24, FIG. 5, is provided in the centrally positioned recess 14 and comprises a bottom 25, a peripheral side 26 and a top 27. The bottom has a large centrally positioned perforation 28 which closely fits around the large diameter portion 18 of the boss 17 while the top 27 has a hole 29 located in a recessed portion 30 in the top so as to support the wax supply and feed member 24 for rotation about the axis 23 of the disc with the bottom surface a of the member 24 in sliding contact with the bore bottom surface 16 of the disc 10.
Formed in the bottom 25 of the wax supply and feed member 24 are a series of discharge ports 31 of the same circumferential spacing and radial distance from the axis 23 as the discharge holes 22 so that by appropriate rota- Patented Aug. 29, 1961 ice tion of the member 24 ports 31 may be brought into full register with the discharge holes 22 or to any partial degree of register therewith or completely cut off the dis? charge holes 22 as desired. The degree of closure is in: dicated by the position of the arrow 32 on the top 27 of the member 24 in relation to the indicator lines 33, 34 and 35, as best shown in FIG. 2.
The wax supply and feed member 24 has an inner chamber 36 which may be filled with a suitable wax-like or other similar material 37, preferably in powdered form, through a filler opening 38 having a suitable closure cover 39. A thumb nut 40 carried on the threaded upper end portion 21 of the stud 20 serves to secure the member 24 to the disc 10 and to lock the member 24 in desired rotary positions of discharge through ports 3122 as shown by indicating lines 32-33-34 for the proper discharge of the wax on to the playing surface 41 of a shuflleboard court 42. Thus, the wax may be fed at any desired rate (or completely out off) through the discharge holes 22 directly between the bottom sliding surface 11 of the disc 10 and the playing surface 41 of the shuflieboard court 42 as the disc is slid over the court during play.
While the apparatus herein disclosed and described constitutes a. preferred form of the invention, it is also to be understood that the apparatus is capable of mechanical alteration without departing from the spirit of the invention and that such mechanical arrangement and commercial adaptation as fall within the scope of the appendent claims are intended to be included herein.
Having thus fully set forth and described this invention what is claimed and desired to be obtained by United States Letters Patent is:
l. A shuffleboard disc having, a bottom sliding surface adapted to slidably support said disc on a shuflleboard court surface, a peripheral surface on said disc extending upwardly from said bottom sliding surface, and a top horizontal surface spaced from and parallel to said bottom sliding surface, a centrally positioned circular recess coaxially positioned relative to said peripheral surface formed by a bore extending downwardly from said top surface and terminating at its lower end at a radially disposed horizontal bore bottom surface positioned parallel to said top and bottom surfaces of said disc, a boss formed on said disc coaxially positioned relative to said downwardly extending bore comprising a larger diameter portion adjacent the bottom of said downwardly extending bore and a smaller upstanding diameter portion located above said larger diameter portion, an upstanding threaded stud fixed in said disc and located coaxially of said boss, said bottom of said downwardly extending bore including a series of circumferentially spaced discharge holes radially disposed coaxially of said disc and extending through the bottom sliding surface of said disc, a wax supply and feed member located in said circular recess of said recess and having a peripheral upwardly extending side terminating with a top, said bottom of said wax supply and feed member including a large centrally positioned'perforation journaled on said larger diameter portion of said boss and a hole in said top of said wax supply and feed member journaled on said upstanding stud so as to rotatably support said wax supply and feed member for rotation about the axis of said disc, said wax supply and feed member including a series of discharge ports formed through the bottom thereof having the same circumferential spacing and radial position from the axis of said disc as said discharge holes in the bottom of said disc so that rotation of said wax supply and feed member relative to said disc said discharge ports and discharge holes are adapted to be brought into full register and any partial degree of register to regulate the flow of wax from the interior of said wax supply and feed member out through said discharge holes and over the bottom sliding surface of said disc, and means on said threaded stud to lock said wax supply and feed member against rotation on said disc.
- -2. A shuflieboard disc as set forth in claim 1 wherein the top of said wax supply and feed member is located in the plane of the top surface of said disc.

A shuffieboard disc as set forth in claim 1 wherein there is provided an indicating pointer on the top of said wax supply and feed member indicatively related to indicia on the top surface of said disc to indicate the degree of register between said discharge ports in said Wax supply and feed member and the discharge openings in the bottom of said disc.
