Description
March 28, 1961 F. c. METZNER TROUSERS HANGER Filed July 13, 1959 F ran/r 6. Mefzner INVEN TOR.
TROUSERS HANGER Frank C. Metzner, Lewes, Del. (1824 Lamont St. NW., Washington 10, D.C.)
Filed July 13, 1959, Ser. No. 826,614 1 Claim. (Cl. 223-95) This invention relates to hangers and more particularly to a trousers hanger.
An object of the invention is to provide an adjustable trousers hanger to engage the cuffs of a pair of pants and hold them effectively and neatly in such position as to suspend the trousers and thereby maintain and promote a proper wrinkle-free condition of the trousers and a crease along the front and rear edges of the leg tubes of the trousers.
A further object of the invention is to provide a practical and very simple trousers hanger which is easy to use and very effective. This is achieved by having what is thought to be a unique arrangement of links, the movement of which engages holders in the cuifs or disengages holders from the cuffs, all by a simple, single manipulation.
These together with other objects and advantages which will become subsequently apparent reside in the details of construction and operation as more fully hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming a part hereof, wherein like numerals refer to like parts throughout, and in which:
Figure l is a small scale elevational view showing the trousers hanger in use;
Figure 2 is an enlarged sectional view taken on the line 2-2 of Figure 1;
Figure 3 is an enlarged elevational View of the trousers hanger showing a second position in doted lines; and,
Figure 4 is a sectional view taken on the line 4-4 of Figure 3.
In the accompanying drawings there is illustrated a conventional pair of trousers equipped with cuffs 12. Cuffs 12 and 13 (Fig. 2) are the ordinary conventional cuffs found at the lower ends of leg tubes 14 and 15 of trousers 10. The trousers are conventional, as is the hanger pole 16 on which trousers hanger 18 is shown.
Trousers hanger 18 is composed of a small body 20 having a longitudinal passageway 22 extending through the upper and lower faces thereof and completely through the body. Two links 24 and 26 are connected by pivots 28 and 30 at their inner ends to body 26 on opposite sides of passage 22. The links preferably have rounded inner ends and are slightly tapered to the outer ends thereof in which there are apertures 32 and 34. Identical grippers 36 and 38 are connected in apertures 32 and 34 and to links 26 and 24, respectively. Gripper 36 is made of a transverse bar 40 having a pair of downwardly extending sides 42 and 44 to the lower ends of which there are upturned U-shaped portions 46 (Fig. 3) and sides 50 and 52 which terminate in portions 54 at 2,977,032 Patented Mar. 28, 1961 links 26 and 24 intermediate the inner and outer ends a lower level than the surface of links 24 and 26. Sides thereof.
In use and operation, the cuffs l2 and 13 of the trousers 1d are engaged with grippers 36 and 38 as described previously. This would be most easily achieved while the hanger assembly is in the position shown in dotted lines in Figure 3. Then, the book 62 is engaged with pole 16 or simply held in one hand, and the body 20 is pushed downward on rod 6%) thereby causing an extended essentially horizontal position as constrained by toggle links 66 and 68. The linkage will remain in the position shown in full lines in Figure 3 and also in Figure 1 since the links 26 and 24 have pivots 28 and 30 and 7d and 72 in one horizontal line.
The foregoing is considered as illustrative only of the principles of the invention. Further, since numerous modifications and changes will readily occur to those skilled in the art, it is not desired to limit the invention to the exact construction and operation shown and described, and accordingly, all suitable modifications and equivalents may be resorted to, falling within the scope of the invention as claimed.
What is claimed as new is as follows:
In an adjustable hanger adapted to suspend a pair of trousers by the cuffs, the combination comprising a rod having a hook portion on its upper end adapted to engage a stationary support, a longitudinally bored body member slidably disposed on said rod for vertical movement intermediate the ends thereof, a pair of oppositely disposed links pivotally mounted at their inner ends to said body member, a pair of oppositely disposed toggle members pivoted at their inner ends to said rod at its lower end, said toggle members having their outer ends extending toward said links, a pivot on each of said links being disposed offset from a center point between its inner and outer ends toward the outer end, each of said toggle members having its outer end connected to the pivot on the respective link, said body member being vertically movable on said rod away from said hook ,portion causing pivotal movement of said links about said body member and outward movement away from said rod of the pivots on said links, said toggle members being pivoted about the lower end of said rod in response to the outward movement of said pivots, and wire means attached to the outer ends of said links and adapted to engage the cuffs of trousers, said wire means each including a transverse bar rotatably mounted on the outer end of the respective link for relative movement thereto, a pair of U-shaped elements integral with said bar, one each extending downwardly on each side of said respective link, and each of said U-shaped elements terminating in a reversely bent portion disposed at a level lower than the level of said respective link whereby said body member is positioned at a level above said U-shaped elements for manual manipulation when said hook portion is in an operative position.
