11 Claims. (CI. 40-10) This invention relates to label holders, and particularly to a label holder embodying a frame having a window and support means by which the holder is attached to a support.

The label holder of the present invention embodies a rectangular molded element which could be of metal, plastic or like material, having a central opening forming a window for the label which is secured on the rear face of the holder by tabs provided in the molding operation. Openings are molded into the side edges of the frame for the reception of wire holders by which the holder may be supported on the back of a book, on the pocket of a coat and the like. Individual wires may be utilized at each side edge or two side edge wires may be joined together in unit relationship. The wires are so formed as to secure the frame in fixed relation when attached to a support.

The side apertures for receiving the wires are molded from the front and back as open recesses providing alternate spaced open and closed areas which in the aggregate form aligned openings in which the wires are inserted and supported. In a similar manner, tabs are formed on the rear face of the holder for engaging and supporting the label when secured to the rear face of the frame.

Accordingly, the main objects of the invention are: to provide a frame for a label holder which is molded in a manner to have oppositely disposed recesses forming aligned openings for the holding elements of the frame; to provide a frame for a label holder molded from a plastic material having a central opening forming a window and apertures at opposite areas for receiving and supporting a holding element for the frame; to

provide a frame of a label holder with a cliplike supportwhich directly engages a supporting element which need not engage the frame, and, in general, to provide a molded frame and holding element therefor which forms a label holder, which is simple in construction and economical of manufacture.

Other objects and features of novelty of the invention will be specifically pointed out or will become apparent when referring, for a better understanding of the invention, to the following description taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawing, wherein:

Figure 1 is a perspective view of a book having a label holder thereon embodying features of the present invention;

The label holder of the present invention comprises a frame 10 which is molded in a two-part die to have a central opening 11 therein which functions as a window through which the label is visible. The front face of the frame has recesses 12 disposed therein in aligned spaced relation to each other. Between the front recesses 12 rear recesses 13 are formed in the frame, with the recesses slightly overlapping so that apertures will be provided extending from one to the other end of the frame by the bottom of the notches. The recesses are of such depth that the centers of the bottom portion are disposed in aligned relation to each other. In this manner, a two-piece die, separated along the edges, forms the aligned apertures for the reception of the supportingwires 14. These supporting Wires are similar to those of the Galeone Patent No. 2,539,069 owned by the assignee company in which the present applicant is interested.

The supporting wires 14 have straight longitudinal arms 15 which extend through the aperture formed by the aligned notches 12 and 13. The wires have a top web 16 of a length at least the thickness of the back of the book from which clamping arm portions 17 extend parallel to the arms 15. The clamping arms terminate in arcuate portions 13 which apply a spring pressure between the book back and the frame to tightly secure the frame to a book, as illustrated in Fig. 1. A recess 19 is provided at the top and along the sides and bottom of the opening 11 for the reception of the label. Fingers 21 are provided on the back of the frame at the top thereof in a manner which requires apertures 22 to be formed in the outer face of the frame. These fingers extend over the edge of the label and secure it in position. Similar fingers may be provided at the bottom of the window in the frame if this is found necessary. However, the bottom of the recess limits the downward movement of the label and the fingers 21 retain the label in position at the top so that when the frame is afixed to the book back, the label will be retained within the recess behind the window 11 of the frame.

In Fig. 5 a similar construction is illustrated, that wherein the supporting wire 23 is the same as the two wires illustrated and described with regard to Figs. 3 and 4, with the exception that the end arcuate portions 18 are connected together by a web portion 24 so as to have the supporting wires in unit relation to each other. The interconnection of the bottoms of the recesses 12 and 13 to form the continuous apertures to receive the wires 14 is clearly illustrated in Fig. 7.

In Fig. 6 a further form of support for the label holding device is illustrated, that wherein a rectangular frame 25 of the same construction as that of Figs. 1 to 5 is employed for clamping the label holder to the breast pocket of a coat, to a specific article to be sold, or on the edge of a wall forming a bin in which the articles are displayed and the like. The frame has apertures 26 at opposite side edges, the same as in the frame hereinabove described, formed by recesses 12 and 13 at the front and rear of the frame.

The clamping element 27 embodies a spring wire 28 which is Wound into a large coil 29, herein illustrated as embodying two and a half turns. It is to be understood that more or less turns may be employed, depending upon the use of the holder. Arms 31 and 32 extend outwardly from opposite sides of the coil, having an end 33 bent at substantially right angles therefrom. The ends 33 project into recesses 13 and 12 to securely anchor the ends on opposite sides of the frame, leaving the coil 29 in the central portion thereof. The arm 32 may be offset at 34 to have it disposed in the plane of the arm 31, thereby making substantially the entire coil 29 available for clamping purposes. It is to be understood that different types of clamping elements may be employed for supporting the frame to an object, and other applications besides those specifically enumerated may be found for the particular frame and supporting elements as illustrated or as modified to meet the specific requirement of the art.

What is claimed is:

1. A label holder including, in combination, a rectangular frame of plastic material having sections of longitudinally extending apertures on opposite side edges thereof with the sections having alternate spaced open sides, said frame having a central opening forming a window for a label, and securing means for the frame anchored within the longitudinally extending apertures at opposite sides thereof for securing the label holder to an element.

2. A label holder including, in combination, a rectangular frame of plastic material having sections of longitudinally extending apertures on opposite side edges thereof with the sections having alternate spaced open sides, said frame having a central opening forming a window for a label, and securing means for the frame anchored within the longitudinally extending apertures at opposite sides thereof for securing the label holder to an element, said apertures being formed of aligned spaced recesses alternately extending inwardly from opposite sides of the frame to such depth that the bottoms thereof project beyond the center line of the apertures.

A label holder including, in combination, a rectangular frame of plastic material having sections of longitudinally extending apertures on opposite sides thereof, said apertures embodying a series of recesses alternately extending inwardly from opposite faces of the frame to a depth to have the bottoms thereof extend beyond the center line of the apertures, said frame having a central opening forming a window for a label, and securing-means for the frame anchored within the longitudinally extending apertures at opposite sides thereof for securing the label holder to an element, said supporting means embodying separate wires of hairpin shape having one branch straight to be received within the bottoms of the aligned notches and the other branch having an arcuate portion to provide spring pressure against the element on which the frame is secured.

A label holder including, in combination, a rectangular frame of plastic material having sections of longitudinally extending apertures on opposite sides thereof, said apertures embodying a series of recesses alternately extending inwardly from opposite faces of the frame to a depth to have the bottoms thereof extend beyond the center line of the apertures, said frame having a central opening forming a window for a label, and securing means for the frame anchored within the longitudinally extending apertures at opposite sides thereof for securing the label holder to an element, said supporting means embodying separate wires of hairpin shape having one branch straight to be received within the bottoms of the aligned notches and the other branch having an arcuate portion to provide spring pressure against the element on which the frame is secured, said frame having a recess portion at the top which extends on the sides and bottom of the window on the inner face of the frame in which the label is supported.

A label holder including, in combination, a rectangular frame of plastic material having sections of longitudinally extending apertures on opposite sides thereof, said apertures embodying a series of recesses alternately extending inwardly from opposite faces of the frame to a depth to have the bottoms thereof extend beyond the center line of the apertures, said frame having a central opening forming a window for a label, securing means for the frame anchored within the longitudinally extending apertures at opposite sides thereof for securing the label holder to an element, said supporting means embodying separate wires of hairpin shape having one branch straight to be received within the bottoms of the aligned notches and the other branch having an arcuate portion to provide spring pressure against the element on which the frame is secured, said frame having a recess portion at the top which extends on the sides and bottom of the window onthe inner face of the frame in which the label is supported, and fingers provided on the inner face of the frame formed by die portions extending through apertures in the frame for securely anchoring the label at the top portion of the frame.

A label holder including, in combination, a rectangular frame of plastic material having sections of longitudinally extending apertures on opposite sides thereof, said apertures embodying a series of recesses alternately extending inwardly from opposite faces of the frame to a depth to have the bottoms thereof extend beyond the center line of the apertures, said frame having a central opening forming a window for a label, and securing means for the frame anchored within the longitudinally extending apertures at opposite sides thereof for securing the label holder to an element, said securing means having a plurality of adjacent coils of wire from which arms extend on the opposite sides thereof, the ends being bent at substantially right angles and inserted through the recesses on the inner face into recesses on the outer face.

A label holder including, in combination, a rectangular frame of plastic material having sections of longitudinally extending apertures on opposite sides thereof, said apertures embodying a series of recesses alternately extending inwardly from opposite faces of the frame to a depth to have the bottoms thereof extend beyond the center line of the apertures, said frame having a central opening forming a window for a label, and securing means for the frame anchored within the longitudinally extending apertures at opposite sides thereof for securing the label holder to an element, said securing means having a plurality of adjacent coils of wire from which arms extend on the opposite sides thereof, the ends being bent at substantially right angles and inserted through the recesses on the inner face into recesses on the outer face, the top one of said arms being offset downwardly near the top of the coil portion of the holder for having the greater part of the coils available for clamping purposes.

In a label holding device, a rectangular frame having a central opening forming a window through which the label is visible, a support on the rear face of said frame for the label, recesses extending into the frame from the front and rear face thereof on opposite sides which overlap each other to have the bottoms thereof disposed in aligned relation, and supporting means for said frame having branches which extend within a recess on the rear of the frame and project into a recess on the front of the frame at opposite sides of the frame.

9. In a label holding device, a rectangular frame having a central opening forming a window through which the label is visible, a support on the rear face of said frame for the label, recesses extending into the frame from the front and rear face thereof on opposite sides which overlap each other to have the bottoms thereof disposed in aligned relation, and supporting means for said frame embodying U-shaped wires, one branch of which is secured in the aperture formed by said aligned recesses at opposite sides of the frame, the other branch of which is deflected toward the frame to clamp an element therebetween.

10. In a label holding device, a rectangular frame having a central opening forming a window through which the label is visible, a support on the rear face of said frame for the label, recesses extending into the frame from the front and rear face thereof on opposite sides which overlap each other to have the bottoms thereof disposed in aligned relation, and supporting means for said frame embodying a wire having a plurality of adjacent coils on the opposite sides of which arms extend in the opposite direction, with the ends bent substantially 90 and extending into recesses on the back face of the frame into recesses on the front face thereof.

11. In a label holding device, a rectangular frame having a central opening forming a window through which the label is visible, a support on the rear face of said frame for the label, recesses extending into the frame from the front and rear face thereof on opposite sides which overlap each other to have the bottoms thereof disposed in aligned relation, and supporting means for said frame embodying a wire having a plurality of adjacent coils on the opposite sides of which arms extend in the opposite direction, with the ends bent substantially 90 and extending into recesses on the back face of the frame into recesses on the front face thereof, the top arm of said. coil being offset near the top of said coil to have the arm disposed in the same plane as the arm at the bottom thereof for making the greater part of the coil available for clamping purposes.
