(Cl. 248-255) This invention relates to new and useful improvements and structural refinements in hangers, particularly hangers for Window shades, curtains, draperies, etc., and the principal object of the invention is to provide a highly versatile hanger which may be conveniently and efiectively employed for accommodating a roller shade, a Venetian blind, curtains and draperies in a variety of different combinations.

Some of the advantages of the invention reside in its simplicity of construction and in its adaptability to ex peditious and easy installation, the entire hanger being secured to supporting structure by only two fastening elements.

With the above more important objects and features in view and such other objects and features as may become apparent as this specification proceeds, the invention consists essentially of the arrangement and construction of parts as illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which:

Figure l is a top plan View of the invention in use, including supporting means for a roller shade;

Figure 2 is a fragmentary elevational view of the subject shown in Figure 1;

Figure 3 is a fragmentary sectional detail, taken substantially in the plane of the line 3--3 in Figure 1;

Figure 4 is a group perspective view of the hanger, including means for supporting a Venetian blind;

Figure 5 is a top plan view of the invention arranged for supporting a Venetian blind, and

Figure 6 is a perspective view of certain elements of the hanger in their assembled relation.

Like characters of reference are employed to designate like parts in the specification and throughout the several views.

Referring now to the accompanying drawings in detail, more particularly to Figures 3, 4 and 6, the invention consists of a hanger which is designated generally by the reference character 10 and embodies in its construction a vertical base member 12 which is formed in upper and lower end portions thereof with apertures 14 to receive suitable fastening elements 16 whereby the entire hanger may be rigidly secured to supporting structure, such as for example, a window frame 18.

A vertical plate 20 is secured to and projects forwardly from the base member 12 and a lateral extension 22 is provided integrally at the upper edge of the plate 20 adjacent the base member. This extension has an upturned portion 22a laterally oflFset from the plate 20 and which, in turn, is equipped with a coplanar, forwardly projecting and vertical ear 24 offset upwardly on por tion 22a.

A substantially U-shaped bracket 26 is provided in its bight portion with a vertical slot 28 to removably receive the ear 24 and a spacer reinforcing block 30 is secured to the bight portion of the bracket 26 at the upper end of the slot 28. The purpose of the block is to "ice seat on portion. 22a behind the upper end portion of the car 24, so as to prevent the bracket 26 from. rocking.

The two forwardly projecting side portions of the bracket 26 each terminatein a coplanar, forwardly projecting vertical ear 32, 34 vertically ofiset thereon and which are similar tothe aforementioned ear 24.

It is to be noted that the side portion of the bracket carrying the car 34 is substantially longer than the side portion carrying the car 32.

When the invention is placed in use as shown inFigure 1, two hanger units. 10 are used in pairs and the plates 20 of the two units are provided in front ends thereof, forwardly of said extensions 22 and cars 24 with suitable notches or recesses 36 to receive the end portion of the roller shaft 38 of a conventional window blind or shade 40. Then, omitting the brackets 26, the hollow rearwardly curved end of a single conventional curtain rod may be positioned over on the ears 24 of the two hanger units, as indicated by the dotted lines 42 in the left hand portion of Figure 1. Such a single curtain rod may be used to accommodate either a curtain, or a drape, as desired. Inasmuch as the notches 36 are spaced forwardly of the extensions 22 and cars 24 the roller of the window blind or shade is spaced close to the curtain or drape.

Alternatively, the brackets 26 may be applied to the cars 24 of the two hanger units and a pair of spaced curtain rods 44, 46 may be installed on the respective cars 32, 34 of the hanger units, so as to accommodate a curtain as well as a drape or a curtain and a valance, as desired.

A similar arrangement is obtained in Figure 5, but here the hangers are used to accommodate the usual cornice 48 of a Venetian blind, in place of the roller shade 40.

Under such circumstances a pair of angle brackets 50 are used, one on each hanger unit, each of these angle brackets having a vertical arm provided with a pair of apertures 52 and a horizontal arm provided with a pair of apertures 54. The apertures 54 receive suitable fastening elements (not shown) whereby the Venetian blind cornice 48 is secured to the brackets, while the apertures 52 receive fastening elements 56. One of the fastening elements is positioned in the recess 36 of the plate 20, while the other fastening element 56 is positioned in an aperture 58 with which the plate 20 is provided.

It will be apparent from the foregoing, that the invention may be used in a highly versatile manner for interchangeably supporting roller shades, Venetian blinds, curtains, drapes, valances, etc., as desired.

It is believed that the advantages and use of the invention will be clearly apparent from the foregoing disclosure and, accordingly, further description thereof at this point is deemed unnecessary.

While in the foregoing there has been shown and described the preferred embodiment of this invention, it is to be understood that minor changes in the details of construction and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.

Having described the invention, what is claimed as new is:

l. A hanger of the character described comprising a vertical base member adapted for attachment to a support, a vertical plate secured to said base member and projecting forwardly therefrom, said plate being provided with means for supporting a window blind, a horizontal extension provided on the upper edge of said plate, an upstanding curtain rod supporting means on said extension and laterally offset thereby from said plate, said last mentioned means comprising a vertical car on said extension, a substantially U-shaped bracket having forwardly extending sides and a bight portion provided with a slot 3 receiving said ear, and a pair of terminal ears on said sides coplanar therewith and vertically offset thereon to support the ends of a pair of curtain rods.

2. The combination of claim 1, one of said sides being longer than the other to support the end of one of the curtain rods forwardly of the other curtain rod.

3. The device as defined in claim 1 wherein said first mentioned means comprises an L-shaped bracket having a vertical arm attached to said plate and a horizontal arm adapted to engage the cornice of a Venetian blind.
