Description
1954 s. A WITTMAYER 2666305 SWIN i FRAME CHANGING RING Fil ed Nov. 25, 1949 IN VEN TOR.
of the ring so tzhat when tzhe frame I? is closed upon tzhe tzop I2, itz will be keptz in thatz position by the frictional engagementz betzween Ila ancl 11b, While itz may loe easily removed therefrom as by a finger of tzhe user exerting an upwarol pu1l tzhereon.
When tzhe frame t! is open, roc'king on it;s pivot I6, as indicatzed in Fig. l, the platze I8 will automatically tzurn in one directzion, in tzhis case indicated in such a manner thatz the Masonic emblern 24 will be an the tzop of the ring when tzhe frame l! is closed tzhereon, as indicatzecl in Fig. 2.
When itz is desired to display the otzher side 2t of the plate ancl tzhe initials 22 thereon, tzh e user will turn tzhe plate againstz the actzion of tzhe spring V in tzhe oppositze direction and then close ehe frame 11 on ehe tzop I2 where itz Will be keptz by tzhe frictional engagementz of I'ta and I'tb, as has been indicatzed hereinbeiore. By such a closure the plate I8 will be enclosed in the frame l't and will be pressed flatz on tzhe tzop of the ring and. will now display Ehe initials 22.
I may also provide an upstanding curvecl rim 29 atz tzhe rear of tzhe pivotz 16 rising from ehe respective edge of tzhe tzop 22 of the ring and tzhe corresponding edge 29a of tzhe frame H whentzhe same is opened will engage tzhe tzop of said curved upstzanding rim 29 whereby a limitz is provideol for tzhe outzward swinging of tzhe frame l'i.
As Will be Seen I provicle a reliable simple atztzractzive original means whereby tzhe ornamentw tzion on tzhe top of tzhe ring may be changed even While the ring is on the finger of tzhe user.
In tzhe embodimentz shown, the ring may be changecl from one of an initial or sealing ring tzo one showing a Masonic emblem or vice Versa As has been indicated when the frame is opened upon itzs pivotz tzhe spring quickly tzurns tzhe platze in one direction. A small opening of tzhe frame l'l in this case is sufiicientz, the action of tzhe spring 25 Will force the platze I8 againstztzhe tzop l2 ancl forces the frame tzo swing furtzher untzil platze 18 completzes a half turn, and when tzhe frame now is closed upon the top, the respective ornamentz Will automatically appear on tzhe ring. All tzhis may be done witzh a littzle initia1 effortz and will oceur extremely quickly giving tzhe appearance o1 almostz a magic change in tzhe ring.
For tzhe reverse change tzhe frame Will be opened somewhatz by a finger of the user then the plate tzurned againstz the action of tzhe spring in the opposite direction and tzhe frame closed. on the top of the rings, as has been describeol. A very small initial opening of the frame by a finger nail of the user is sufiicientz in either case anal the restz will occur either automatically by tzhe action of the spring or manually tzhrough tzhe pressure of the user on the platze, the respective edge of tzhe platte rubbing an-i pressing againstz the tzop I2 of tzhe ring during the operation, as will be obvious.
Itz will thus be seen thatz there is provided a device in which the several objects of tzhis inventzion are achievecl and whieh is weil adaptzed tzo meetz the conditzions of praetzical use.
-As various possible embodimentzs mightz -loe made of ohe above inventzion, and as various changes mightzbe made in tzhe embodiment above setz fortzh, itz is tzo loe understzood. that all matter herein setz fortzh or shown in the accompanying drawings is to be interpreted as illustrative and notz in a limitzing sense. 1
Whatz I claim as new and desire tzo protzectz by Letters Patent of tzhe United Stza1zes is: 7
1. In a changeable ring, a tzop for tzhe ring, a
frame pivotzed atz one engl of tzhe tzop, a member having tzwo sides rotzatable in said. frame, ornamentations atz tzhe two sides of said member adapced tzo be alternately displayed upon tzhe turning of the same, means tzo releasably secure said frame on said. top whereby a selectzed side thereof will be displayed on tzhe ring, a spring arran%ed betzween seid frame and said member having a tendeney to swing said. member in a predecermined directzion, said member having coaxial pins on which tzo swing, downward projections on said frame to receive saicl pins, and recesses in said tzop adaptzed t:o receive said projectzions.
2. In a ring, as setz fortzh in claim l, said spring being arranged in one of said projeotions around tzhe pin therein, said projectzion neing hollow and said spring helical.
3. In a changeable ring, a fiat top ior ehe ring, a frame pivoted ab on sicle of the tzop, a platte witzhin said frame pivotz pins for said platze in said frame, whereby said platze may rotate in said frame, predetzermined designs atz the tzwo sides of Ehe platze means tzo releasably close said frame on seid tzop whereby a selectzed side thereof Will be displayed on the ring, downwarcl semi-cylinolrioal enlargements on seid frame for saiol pins, and recesses in said tzop tzo receive saiol enlargementzs, and a helical spring arrangeol in one of said enlargements around ehe pin therein betzween said frame ancl saicl platze, said spring having a tendency to rotate said. plate in a predetzermined directzion.
4. In a ring as setz forth in claim 3, means tzo limit the swinging of said platze co substantzially one half of a revolution in eitzher direotzion.
5. In combination, a ring having a tzop portion, a frame pivoted to one side of. the top portzicn an i swingable from a position overlying t'ne top portion tzo a position where it is swung away from said top portion, a platze bearing ornaments on opposite faces thereof, pivotally mounted aboutz the mid-portion thereof Wihin the frame so thatz said. plat-e may be swung through an an le of abouo its pivotal axis tzo expose either one 01 the other of its faces tzo tzhe top, spring means interconnecting said platze and frarne adapoed eo be tensionecl upon swinging said platze aboub it5s pivotzal axig in one direction of rotatzion through an angle of so as to retzurri said plate when said platze is released, through an angle oz" 183.
6. 'Ihe c01nbination of claim 5, in combinaticn witzh means tzo releasably hold the frame cl0wn againstz the tzop portion of Ehe ring,
7. The comtoinatzion of claim 6, tzhe pivotal axis of saicl frame being atz right, angles tzo tzhe axis of tzhe ring and the pivotzal axis of said platze being parallel to the pivotzal axis of saicl frame.
8. In coinbination, aring having a fiat tep ein faee, a frame pivoted o one side of said tep surf ace and adapted to lie fiatz againstz said surfaee and adaptzed. tzo be swung upwardly so as tzo extend atz an angle to said surfaee, a platze Witzhin said frame anti pivotecl tzo opposite portions of tzhe frame ab-out an axis passing throtigh the midportion of said plate and a mid-portion oi seid frame, said platze being adaptzed to be held againstz saidfiatz surfaoe when said frame is bald against said flatz surface, releasable means tzo reizain seid frame againstz said flatz surface, torsion spring means interconnecting said. fra1ne and place and adaptzed tzo betzensioned upon swinging said plate relative m said framethrough an angle of 180 from normal position witzh one face of saicl platze exposed to a position where the oppositze of said platze ls exposed, said plate being adaptzed to be References Glied in the file o! this patent UNI'I'ED STATES PATENTS Number other and perpendicular to the a.xis of said fing. 10 1743563 SANDOR A.
