6 Claims.
This invention relatesto beverage dispensers and more particularly to a dispenser including a reservoir for storing a quantity of the beverage to be dispensed and manually operated dispensing means, and which may also include means for chilling the beverage in the reservoir.
It is among the objects of the invention to provide an improved beverage dispenser which includes separable parts and may be assembled to provide a stand for fruits, pastries or simi- 1 lar articles, to provide a dispenser for hot beverages in which case no chilling means is included, or a dispenser for cold beverages complete with chilling means for the beverage, and which includes; in all cases, a movable tray for drinking glasses; which maintains the beverage stored therein in a clean and uncontaminated condition, and which is simple and durable in construction, economical to manufacture, and neat and attractive in appearance.
Other objects and advantages will become apparent from a consideration of the following description and the appended claims in conjunction with the accompanying drawing wherein:
' Figure l is a top plan view of a beverage dispenser illustrative of the invention;
Figure 2 is a side elevational view of the beverage dispenser illustrated in Figure 1;
Figure 3 is a cross sectional view on the line 33 of Figure 1;
Figure 4 is a cross sectional view on the line 4-4 of Figure 2; and
Figure 5 is a fragmentary elevational view with parts broken away and shown in cross section to illustrate a structural detail of the dispenser.
Withcontinued reference to the drawing, the dispenser includes a base plate H] of circular shape having an upstanding marginal rim or flange II and a stem 12 having a substantially cylindrical intermediate portion l3 and diametrically enlarged top and bottom end portions l4 and [5 with the end portion I5 disposed on the base plate l centrally of the base plate, so that the longitudinal center line of the stem is substantially perpendicular to the base plate. The'stem'may be formed separately from or integrally with the base plate, as may be desired, and the enlarged bottom end of the stem is materially smaller than the diameter of the base plate, leaving an annular portion of the base plate disposed'around the bottom end of the stem. A' drinking glass carrier l6 of annular shape is rotatably mounted on the base plate l9 surrounding the bottom end portion I5 of the stem l2 and is provided with a circular series of.
spaced apart recesses I! for receiving drinking glasses and an upwardly and outwardly projecting peripheral rim [8 which extends over the rim I l of the base plate and provides means for manually turning the carrier 16 about the bottom end of the stem l2 to successively bring the drinking glasses mounted upon the carrier into position for filling from the beverage dispenser.
The upper end [4 of the stem is provided with a fiat top surface in which is provided a circular groove I9 concentric with the longitudinal center line of the stem. A tray 20 is mounted on the upper end of the stem l2 and includes a flat body'2l of circular shape having an upstandin peripheral flange 22 and having on one side a circular ridge 23 which is disposed concentrically of the body 2! and received in the groove l9 .in the upper end surface of the stem l2. The body 2| is also provided in its upper surface with a circular groove 24 which is of substantially the same diameter and concentric with the ridge 23 on the bottom surface of this body.
A pet cock 25 extends through the body 2| adjacent the flange 22 and may be'opened to drain liquid from the space at the upper side of the body 2| within the flange 22.
An outer receptacle 26 is mounted upon the tray 20 and includes a, bottom wall 21 having on its bottom surface a circular ridge 28 received in the circular groove in the upper surface of the body 2| of the tray and having in its upper surface a groove concentric with and of substantially the same diameter as the ridge 28. The outer receptacle also includes a side wal1 29 of cylindrical shape joined at one end to the bottom wall 21 peripherally of the latter and a domeshaped cover 30 mounted on the other or upper end of the side wall by means of an internally screw threaded rim 3| on the cover threaded onto the externally screw threaded upper end portion of the side wall. The cover 30 is of substantially hemispherical shape and is provided at the center of its convex surface with a suitable handle 32 for applying the cover to the side Wall 29 of the outer receptacle and removing it therefrom.
Handles 33 and 34 are secured to the side wall 29 and project outwardly therefrom at substantially diametrically opposite locations near the upper or open end of the side wall for lifting the outer receptacle onto and off of the tray 20.
An inner receptacle 35 is disposed within the outer receptacle 26 with itscylindrical side wall 36 circumferentially spaced from the. side wall 29 of the outer receptacle. This inner receptacle 49 has, at one end of its side wall, a bottom wall 31 provided on its outer surface with a circular ridge 38 received in the circular groove provided in the inner surface of the bottom Wall of the outer receptacle, and a domed cover 39 of substantially hemispherical shape is mounted on the end of the side wall 36 of the inner receptacle remote from the bottom wall 3i by suitable means, such as the internally screw threaded rim All on the cover threaded onto an external screw thread formation on the side wall 36 at the end of the latter remote from the bottom wall 31.
A handle 4! is provided on the cover 39 substantially at the center of the convex side thereof and an air vent opening 42 is provided through the handle ll and the wall of the cover.
A conduit 3 is threaded at one end into the side Wall 36 of the inner receptacle and extends from the interior of the inner receptacle adjacent the bottom wall 31 through the side Wall 2E5 of the outer receptacle. This conduit is provided with a manually operated, beverage dispensing valve 44 at the outer side of the outer receptacle. A cut off valve d5 is connected into the conduit 33 by screw thread connections and is disposed between the side walls of the inner and outer receptacles and an operating rod 45 for the valve 45 is detachably secured at one end to the valve by a pin and socket connection, as indicated at 4'5 and 43 Figure 5, including a pin of noncircular cross sectional shape extending upwardly from the stem of the valve and constitut ng an extensionof the latter, and a soclret of the adjacent end of rod 436 having a concavity complementary in shape to the shape of the pin, and the rod 56 extends upwardly along the side wall 36 of the inner receptacle to a location some- What above the upper end of the side Wall 38. An apertured lug 49 projects outwardly from the side wall 36 near the upper end of the latter and receives the rod &6 and a handwheel 5c is provided on the upper end of the rod for operating the a e 45,
When the device is completely assembled, as illustrated in Figure 3, the beverage to be dispensed will be stored in the inner receptacle 35 and a suitable cooling medium, such as cracked ice, will be placed in the space between the side walls 36 and 29 of the inner and outer receptacles. The bottom wall 21 of the outer receptacle is provided near the side Wall 26 of this receptacle with a ciroular series of drain openings 5!, so that the water from the melting ice may drain from the outer receptacle into the tray 29 from which it may be drained through the pet cook 25.
When it is desired to use the device as a stand for supporting such articles as fruit, pastry or candy, the outer and inner receptacles may be omitted and the tray 2!) used as the article supporting tray, Under these conditions, the rotatable drinking glass support will be retained and may be used to. su ort clean drinking glasses convenient to a person selling articles from the stand- When it is desired to use the device as a dispenser for hot beverages only, the outer receptacle 2% is omitted and the inner receptacle 35 is placed directly upon the upper side of the tray 23, the provision for chilling the beverage being th r by om t d- When it is desired to dispense cold beverages, the entire. device is assembled, as described above, so that a space for a chilling medium, such as cracked ice, is provided around the inner receptacle which the beverage is stored.
The invention may be embodied in other specific forms Without departing from the spirit or essential characteristics thereof. The present embodiment is, therefore, to be considered in all respects as illustrative and not restrictive, the scope of the invention being indicated by the appended claims rather than by the foregoing description, and all changes which come within the meaning and range of equivalency of the claims are, therefore, intended to be embraced therein.
