Description
Aug. 29, I950 E. GOLDSON GARMENT AND COLLAR CONSTRUCTION Filed Feb. 28, 1949 tg AlNf 60L DSON IN VEN TOR.
ATTORNEY Patented Aug. 29, 1950 GARMENT AND GOLLAR CONSTRUCTION Elaine Goldson, Great Saughall, Cheshire, England Application February 28, 1948, Serial No. 11,997 In Great Britain August '7, 1946 Section 1, Public Law 690, August 8, 1946 Patent expires August '7, 1966 2 Claims.
This invention relates to coats, jackets, and the like garments (hereinafter, for convenience of description, referred to as coat) more particularly for womens wear; and aims to provide such a garment which may be worn with or without 2. provided collar, as may he preferred.
According to my invention, the neck portion of a coat, jacket or like garment, all hereinafter included in the term coat, for personal wear is made and finished without a collar, but between the cloth layers-4. e. between the coat cloth itself and the conventional facing-'there is formed in each front portion of the neck a pocket opening wherein is secured a fastener component (or components) usually of press-stud type; and spacedly arranged around the inside of said collarless neck at a suitable distance below the edge thereof are further fastener components and for use in the combination with such a coat, as and when the wearer s desires, I provide a collar pieceusua1ly of the same material as that of the coat-of appropriate shape and having been so severed that end portions thereof are in the form of tongues to which the co-operating com ponents of said coat pocket fasteners are secured: also fastener components are secured on the outerside of the collar near its lower edge, these being spacedly arranged to correspond with those of the coats neck.
Preferably said tongues are reinforced or stiffened as by means of Celluloid, rubber or other suitable resilient material.
In fitting the collar to the coat, said tongues of the former are entered into said pocket openings of the coats neck and detachably fastened therein; the collar is also engaged by its spaced fastener components with those of the inside of the coats neck.
I will further describe my invention with the aid of the accompanying sheet of explanatory drawings which illustrate, by way of example and not of limitation, one mode of embodying same.
In said drawings:
Fig. 1 shows the upper portion of a collarless coat, and Fig. 2 is a view of the collar.
Fig. 3 illustrates the coat and collar when detachably assembled together, but prior to the collar being turned down, and Fig. 4 is a view showing the collar when draped over the coats neck.
It is to be noted that in Fig. 1 the pocket openings appear as if gaping, but, of course, in actual Wear, the clothes layers will lie flatly against each other, so that the splits will not be noticeable.
In generally designates a garment coat for womens wear which is tailored without a 001- lar and may be so worn, and H, H indicate pocket-like openings formed between the cloth layers l2, I3 l3, l3 representing the facing pieces of the same material as that of the coat) at the respectivewhen the coat is donned-front neck portions and in each of which pocket openings l I a fastener component [4 of press-stud type is sewn. Further press-stud fastener components iii are spacedly sewn around the inside of said coilarless neck just below the upper edge there of, and being of course, concealed from view when the coat is being worn without the collar.
it denotes a collar piece made of the same cloth as that of the coat, and the end portions whereof have been cut to create tongues 88 to each of which tongues a co-operating fastener component M is sewn. Also fastener components W spacedly arranged to correspond with those l5 of the coats neck are sewn on to the outerside of collar it near its lower edge.
In fitting collar Hi to the coat it, said tongues it of the former provided with resilient stiffenin strips l l of Celluloid or the like, concealed between the two layers of cloth of which the collar is composed, are entered into said pocket openings ll of the coats neck and detachably secured therein by fasteners I i, M collar 98 is also engaged by its spaced fasteners it' with those it of the inside of the neck: The collar is after attachment draped over the edge of the coats neck, and this without becoming creased or wrinkled.
It is to be noted that application of the collar to and its removal from the coat may be quickly and conveniently effected.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A garment comprising in combination a collarless coat formed at its neck portion of two layers of cloth, said coat having pocket openings provided in the top of each front neck portion and between said cloth layers, fastener components mounted in each of said pocket openings, additional fastener components spacedly mounted around the inside of said neck at a suitable distance below the edge thereof and a collar member having end portions thereof forming tongues each capable of entering one of said coat pockets, fastener components each carried by one of said tongues for engaging the component in the corresponding pocket, and further fastener components carried on the outside of said collar and adapted for engaging the components around the inside of said coat neck, and means for stiffening said collar tongues.
2. A garment comprising in combination a collarless coat formed at its neck portion of two layers of cloth, said coat having pocket openings provided in the top of each front neck portion and between said cloth layers, fastener components mounted in each of said pocket openings, additional fastener components spacedly mounted around the inside of said neck at a suitable distance below the edge thereof, and a collar member having end portions thereof forming tongues each capable of entering one of said coat pockets, said collar being formed by two layers of material, stiffening strips positioned between said layers of collar material with each in one of said tongues, fastener components each carried by one of said tongues for engaging the component in the corresponding pocket, and further fastener 4 components carried on the outside of said collar and adapted for engaging the components around the inside of said coat neck.
