vide normal folding of the ladder tape when used in connection with offset lift cords, as are shown in the Patent No. 2,200,349 to Brooks Walker.

When plastic ladder tape is used or when woven ladder tape is used in which the side members of the ladder tape are somewhat stiff, some difii culty in accumulation has been found where the offset cords running near the edge of the slats and near the inside face of the ladder tapes require that the ladder tape fold outwardly between each slat supporting station rather than in the conventional manner, as shown in the Kuyper Patent No. 2,017,541, where the ladder tape conventionally folds outwardly around two slats, inwardly between two slats, and outwardly around two slats, which is the manner in which tape ordinarily folds with center lift cords through conventional route holes. In orderv to provide a construction by which the tape can fold in this same manner, that is, around two slats and then between the next two slats and then around two slats,it has been found that a perforation of the side member of the ladder tape which provides a means whereby the lift cord running at or near one side member of the ladder tape may pass substantially on the outside of the ladder tape between two slat supporting stations, and then inside the ladder tape between the next two slats, outside between the next two slats, and so on, will provide a means whereby the tape can fold inwardly between the slats where the lift cord passes outside of the ladder tape, and the ladder side member can fold outwardly away from the slats and around two slats where the lift cord passes inside of the side member of the ladder tape. This allows a conventional folding of the tape and the aperture in the side member of the ladder tape can be readily moulded in plastic tape, or possibly provided in woven ladder tape, so that it will not ravel, and a lift cord can be readily laced through the apertures and the accumulation of the ladder tape sides can be conventional.

Another object of the invention is to provide a moulded imitation of a lift cord laced through the ladder tape on the outside of the ladder tape which does not have the cord laced through it, so that the appearance of both ladder tapes-one with the cord laced through it and one without the cord laced through it where the cord passes on the other side of the last mentioned tape-will give the same relative appearance on the room side of the blind, and therefore will have a more pleasing appearance. Other objects of the invention will be more clearly pointed out in the accompanying specifications and claims.

5 I have illustrated my invention by way of example in the accompanying drawings, in which:

Figure 1 illustrates a cutaway side elevation view of a Venetian blind incorporating one form of the invention.

Figure 2 is an enlarged end view of the lower side of the ladder tape has a perforation for lacingthe lift cord in and out, and the other side has a moulded appearance of having a lift cord laced in and out.

In all figures, like numerals of reference refer to corresponding parts.

In Figures 1, 2, and 3, I have shown a Venetian blind with particular reference to the ladder tape, in which there is a head rail H! which supports a tilt mechanism H controlled by tilt cords M, an end pivot 92 which also supports a cord lock i3 that controls the stopping of the lift cords 30 and 3 I. A tilt rail 55 supports the upper end of the ladder tapes 2G and 25 which, in turn, support the slats 5 in spaced relationship and support the bottom rail H in its proper relationship at the bottom of the blind. Tilting is provided in the usual manner with the novelty of this invention resting almost entirely on the construction of the ladder tapes. The lift cords 30 and 3| are preferably mounted in the offset position relative to the slats for more ready removability of the slats and in order to provide conventional folding of the ladder tape around two slats and between the next slats, et cetera, I have provided perforations 23 in the side members of the ladder tape through which lift cord 3| may be laced, so that it passes on the outside of the ladder tape between two slat supporting stations and inside of the ladder tape between the next slat supporting stations and then outside between the next slat supporting stations, et cetera, with the result that when the blind is raised, the side member of the ladder tape can fold inwardly. The appearance of the blind may be improved by having cast in or cut out perforations on both the front and the laced in and out of ladder rungs. In this way,'

when viewed from the room side, as shown inFigure 1, if the tapes as shown in Figure 4 were used, the actual portions of the lift cord would show at the tape on the left hand side, and on the right hand side where tape 28 is used, the tape would have the appearance of the lift cord being laced through by the moulded in sections of the lift cord on the face of the ladder tape side members facing the room. As the side members of the ladder tape on both sides can now fold around two slats, and between two slats, andaround two slats in .the conventional manner, it has been found that accumulation is considerably improved and that very satisfactory operation of the blind results.

I do not wish in any way to limit myself to the exact details or mode of operation set forth in the specification and drawings, for it will be obvious that departure may be made in the wa of details without departing from the spirit and scope of my invention which is set forth in the following claims.

I claim as my invention:

l. A Venetian blind having slats, ladder tapes, a lift cord associated with each ladder tape, said .ladder tapes having flexible side members, a portion of said side member folding between opposite faces of two adjoining slats when said blind is raised by said lift cords, perforations in said side members, said lift cords laced through said perforations in said ladder tape side member, the

portions of said ladder tape side member that folds between said slats being on the slat side of said lift cord when in the blind raised position and a portion of said ladder tape side member folding away from said slats and outside of said lift cord when said blind is in the raised position.

A Venetian blind having slats, ladder tapes, lift cords, said lift cords associated with each ladder tape, said ladder tapes having flexible side members, portions of said side members folding between opposite faces of two adjoining slats when said blind is raised by said lift cords, perforations in said side member, said lift cords laced through said perforations in said ladder tape side members, said lacing passing said lift cord outside said side member between two adjoining slats and inside said side member between one of said last-mentioned slats and the next slat.

A Venetian blind having slats, ladder tapes, lift cords, said lift cords associated with each ladder tape respectively, said ladder tapes having flexible side members, a portion of said side member folding between opposite faces of two adjoining slats when said blind is raised by said lift cords, perforations in said side member, said lift cords laced through said perforations in said ladder tape side member, said lacing passing said lift cord outside said side member between two adjoining slats and inside said side member between one of said last-mentioned adjoining slats and the next slat, said cord and tape side member relation continuing throughout most of the length of said ladder tape side member.

A Venetian blind having slats, ladder tapes, lift cords, said lift cords associated with each ladder tape respectively, said ladder tapes having fiexibleside members, a portion of said side member folding between opposite faces of two adjoining slats when said blind is raised by said lift cords, perforations in said side member, said lift cords laced-through said perforations in said ladder tape side member, said lacing passing said lift cord outside said side member between two adjoining slatsand inside said side member between one of said last-mentioned adjoining slats and the next slat, the other side of said ladder tape being formed to give the appearance of the A cord laced through said side even though no cord is associated with said side member.

5. A Venetian blind having slats, ladder tapes,

lift cords, saidlift cords associated with each ladder tape, said ladder tapes having flexible side members, portions of said side members folding between opposite faces of two adjoining slats when said blind is raised by said lift cords, perforations in said side member, said lift cords laced through said perforations in said ladder tape side members, said lacing passing said lift cord outside said side member between two adjoining slats and inside said side member between one of said last-mentioned slats and the next slat, said perforations in said tape side member being located near each slat station.
