Application January 16, 1948, Serial No. 2,783 6 Claims. (01. 2 1 19) struction that is readily made, economically and with a saving of labor.

A still further object of my invention is to provide a shirt that will protect the wearer against colds and drafts and still be light and wearable with ordinary clothing.

A still further object of my invention is to provide an improved shirt having a unique appearance, attractive design and that may be worn with or without a tie.

These and other objects, adaptations, modifications and variations will be immediately apparent to a person skilled in this art, particularly in light of the clear, definite and lucid description given hereinbelow of the fundamental elements underlying the embodiments of my inventions. Though for purposes of illustration only, I am illustrating the preferred embodiments in the attached drawings, I do not wish to be limited to the same except as defined by the claims.

In the illustrations, Figure 1 shows my improved shirt as customarily worn.

Figure 2 is an enlarged frontal view of the flap or bosom section.

Figure 3 shows the bosom section partially open while Figure 4 shows in detail the construction at the collar portion.

Character references as used in the drawings identify elements of my invention and are identical with those used hereinbelow in the description of the preferred embodiment of my invention.

The principal parts of my garment or improved shirt are a shirt IE1 Whose front portion or bosom E2 is substantially a covering over the chest of the wearer. It is a detachable portion of cloth, shaped substantially like an isosceles triangle whose apex iii terminates over the neck band button it attached to the shirt I0. The apex 5!! does not terminate into a sharp point but has its tip cut off by a line 20 which is substantially parallel to the base .22 of the bosom piece l2.

The neck band button l6 fits into the button hole I3 to close the neck band snugly about the neck of the wearer. When the neck band button it is closed, the apex 20 is then placed over it and buttoned into place by the buttons 26. Thus the wearer has a snug, tight and protective fit about his neck to protect it against inclement weather and retain the body heat. However, with my improved shirt, the wearer may, if he desires to do so, omit the use of the neck band button i 6 to provide him with a less snug fit but nevertheless comfortable embrace about his neck by the shirt Hi.

This feature of my improved shirt is obtained by providing the bosom portion l2 with a series of button holes 24 thru which buttons 26 fastened to the shirt H] in proper juxtaposition can be inserted to keep the bosom [2 in fitted position. A button 26 is placed in each of the corners of the base 22 of the triangle. At suitable intervals, additional buttons 26 are positioned along the lines beneath the other outer edges of the superimposed triangular bosom cloth I2 and convergingly approach the neck band button l6, wherein the uppermost buttons 26 substantially flank the said neck band button when it is closed.

A series of button holes 24 are also provided in the bosom piece [2 in button matching juxtaposition so that the bosom piece i2 can be fastened securely to the shirt l0.

At or about the neck band button it, the converging portions of the shirt H3, carrying the buttons 26 criss cross each other and are secured together with the neck band button It. As mentioned previously this provides a snug fit and the wearer, if he desires, can wear a tie.

The bosom portion [2 can be made of the same type of cloth as the shirt H3, or of different type of cloth to achieve different effects and artistic expression of sartorial elegance. Likewise, this bosom portion I 2 can be suppliedin many colors, patterns, with or without painted designs thereon. It therefore has and provides the wearer with multitudinous opportunities of expressing himself sartorially at a minimum of cost and with great ease. If necessary, extra bosom portions l2 can be carried about quite readily on the person of the wearer or purchased whenever necessar at some convenient haberdashery, gentlemens store, drugstores, etc.

Though for illustrative purposes, I have shown only buttons as fastening means for the bosom 2 to the shirt ID, I can use snaps, hooks and eyes and other means to achieve the same results.

Though the above is a full and complete description of the preferred embodiments, I do not however wish to be limited by the same for obviously these can be varied widely and still come within the scope and spirit of the fundamental concepts underlying my invention as defined in the hereunto appended claims.

I claim:

1. A new and improved shirt adapted for casual and sport wear comprising a customary shirt portion, the bosom part of said shirt having therein an opening substantially over the chest of the wearer, the said opening having its apex at the neck portion of said shirt, and the base of said opening being substantially at the lower end of the chest of a wearer of said shirt, the sides of said opening converging upwardly to end at the said apex about the neck band portion of said shirt and over lap each other about said neck band portion, a means to fasten said overlapped ends of the sides of said opening to each other; a collar about the said neck band portion and forming a part thereof, a detachable fabric means to close said opening of said shirt, the said cover means extending over the overlapped ends, the said means to fasten said overlapped ends and over all edges of said sides and fastening means in juxtaposition with the edges of said detachable cover fabric and edges of the sides of the opening of the shirt whereby the said fabric can be attached to the shirt.

2. In the combination of claim 1 wherein the said fabric fastening means extend through the said fabric about the edges thereof.

3. In the wearing apparel of claim 1 wherein the said opening is substantially triangular.

4. In the Wearing apparel of claim 1 wherein the said fabric cover means is substantially triangular in shape.

5. In the product of claim 4 wherein a portion of the apex and the base of said cover means is parallel.

6. In the wearing apparel of claim 4 wherein the said fabric cover means is fastened about the said neck portion by buttons, each of the said buttons placed on a horizontal plane with the fastening means of said ends of the sides at the apex and the said fastening means being midway between said buttons.
