MAKE-UP PROTECTOR `MASK Filed March 2l, 1946 image of the other whereby one is adapted to form the left side of the mask whereas the other blank forms the right side of the mask. An edging or binding I3 is secured substantially around the periphery of the mask, for example by means of stitching I1. As indicated in Fig. 3, this binding comprises a tape or the like folded around the edge of the mask and secured in place by means of conventional stitching.

The eye holes I6 are similarly protected against tearing or distortion by means of further stitching; optionally and alternatively, the eye holes I6 may be protected by means of a binding similar in structure to the border binding I3 (not thus shown in the figures). The binding and/or stitching around the eye holes I6 and around the edge of the mask serve the various purposes of preventing destruction of the mask, preserving the shape from pulling and stretching, and in the case of the border stitching providing an anchoring means for the tying strings I4 which extend from the corners of the mask.

In the form of the invention shown in Figs. l to 4, there are four tying strings Ill on the mask, one extending from each corner. These tying strings are constructed, for example, of tape material similar in structure to the binding tape I3; in fact, in the preferred form of this invention, it is understood that these tying members may be simply integral extensions of the binding tapes I3.

In the presently preferred form of the invention, care is taken in securing together the two blanks Il, to insure that the extending edges I8 (see Fig. 3) extend inwardly; i. e. the blanks are placed together with their outer or forward surfaces facing one another, the blanks stitched together, and the mask then turned right side out, leaving the edge of the seam facing inwardly. In this way it is insured that there will be no rough seam edges projecting to catch on clothing as it brushes past.

`'Ihe use of the article shown in Figs. 1 to 4 is apparent from the figures themselves with the description included hereinbefore. The mask is sirrply placed over the face of the wearer, strings I4 are properly tied behind the wearers head or in Vanother convenient place, whereby the wearers face is safely and securely protected. With this mask in position, the wearer is now free to slip clothing over her head without fear of damage either to the clothing or to her make-up because of contact therebetween. The mask is comfortable to the wearer inasmuch as it is constructed to conform loosely with the contours of the face, and is entirely free from sharp edges or surfaces which might damage the finest and sheerest of clothing.

In Figs. 5 and 6 is shown another form of this invention comprising a mask IIJa comprising two face pieces IIa secured together and having a border binding I3a therearound, all in a manner and construction similar to that set forth in connection with the previous figures. Extending from one side of the mask, and secured thereto in convenient manner, for example by means of stitching of the line, is at least one fastening member or string Ilia. This string Illa is adapted to be releasably secured to the other end of the mask by means of a snap fastener |921. Fig. 8 shows such a fastener I9a mounted on the corner of one end of the mask to the border binding I3a and to the string Ida.

By means of this fastener and string Illa, the mask is adapted to be quickly and readily secured around the face of a wearer. In order to provide maximum of versatility of size, it is contemplated that the tying or fastening string Illa will be con.. structed of a stretchable material such as a conventional elastic band or covered elastic, whereby a large flexibility of size is afforded.

In Fig. 7 there is shown a further form of the invention in which there is provided a head covering or hair covering 2D which is secured along at least a part of the upper edge of the mask. The mask is similar in structure to either of the previously set forth forms of the invention, the hair cover 20 being optional with either form. This hair cover 20 is secured across the front of the mask and optionally partly along the side, and extends over the top of the head of the wearer and part way down the back of the head, thus providing a hair protector integrally mounted on the mask. This form of the invention is particularly useful for a woman who prefers to apply her make-up and to fix her hair prior to putting on her outer clothing, thus avoiding dropping powder, loose hair, or the like on the clothing, and it permits her to do this without subsequently disturbing the careful arrangement of her hair as she slips clothing over her head. Additionally, this form of the invention is useful in preventing various customers in a clothing store from passing to one another various communicable scalp diseases.

While I have illustrated and described the pre ferred embodiments of my invention, it is to be understood that I do not limit myself to the precise constructions herein disclosed and the right is reserved to all changes and modifications coming within the scope of the invention as defined in the appended claims.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by United States Letters Patent is:

1. A protecting mask for preventing contact between a wearers face and hair and clothing being slipped over the wearers head, comprising a pair of face pieces shaped to conform with a wearers face leaving free neck, side and hair portions and secured together along the front edges of said face pieces, a binding secured around the edges of said face pieces to form a chin line, a cheek line and a hair line, and fastening members extending from the edges of said mask for securing the mask on the face of the wearer, and a hair cover secured across the front of the mask and the top thereof to said hair line only and otherwise unengaged, said hair cover being adapted to eX- tend over the top of the wearers head and at least partially down the back of the wearers head to cover the wearers hair.

A protecting mask for preventing contact between a wearers face and hair and clothing being slipped over the wearers head, comprising a pair of face pieces shaped generally to conform with the wearers face leaving free neck, side and hair portions and stitched together along the front edges of said face pieces with an inwardly extending seam, a binding stitched around the edges of the mask to form a chin line, a cheek line and a hair line, and tying strings extending from the binding for securing the mask on the face of the wearer, and a hair cover secured across the front of the mask and the top thereof to said hair line only and otherwise unengaged, said hair cover be ing adapted to extend over the top of the wearers head and at least partially down the back of the wearers head to cover the wearers hair.

A protecting mask for preventing contact between a wearers face and hair and clothing being slipped over the wearers head, comprising a pair of face pieces shaped generally to conform with the wearers face leaving free neck, side and hair portions, each face piece having a projecting nose piece substantially at the center of the front edge thereof and having an eye hole located behind and above said nose piece to correspond in position with the wearers eye, said face pieces being stitched together along the front edges of said face pieces with an inwardly extending seam, a binding stitched around the edges of the mask to form a chin line, a check line and a hair line, and tying strings extending from the binding for securing the mask on the face of the wearer, and a hair cover secured across the front of the mask and the top thereof to said hair line only and otherwise unengaged, said hair cover being being adapted to extend over the top of the wearers head and at lea-st partially down the back of the wearers head to Cover the wearers hair.

4. A protecting mask for preventing contact between a'wearers face and hair and clotihng being slipped over the wearers head, comprising a pair of face pieces shaped generally to conform with the wearers face leaving free neck, side and hair portions, each face piece having a projecting nose piece substantially at the center of the front edge thereof and having an eye hole located behind and ab'ove said nose piece to correspond in position with the wearers eye, said face pieces being stitched together along the front edges of said face pieces with an inwardly extending seam; a binding stitched around the edges of the mask to form a chin line, a cheek line and a hair line, and at lease one fastening member extending from one end of said mask and being adapted to be releasably secured to the other end of said mask to fasten the mask across the face of the wearer, and a hair cover secured across the front of the mask and the top thereof to said hair 1in-e only and otherwise unengaged, said hair cover being adapted to extend over the top of the wearers head and at least partially down the back of the wearers head to cover the wearers hair.
