Description
Oct. 8, 1946. A. RUBENSTEIN CRAYON Filed April 27, 1945 Patented Oct. 8, 1946 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE CRAYON Albert Rubenstein, Washington, D. C.
Application April 27, 1945, Serial No. 590,565
1 Claim. 1
The present invention relates to new and useful improvements in crayons of a type commonly used for marking packages for shipment and for other purposes, and of a type usually constructed of black Wax in stick form.
In using marking crayons of this character, the wax becomes softened by the heat of a person's hand grasping the same, thus causing distortion of the wax and resulting in the bending of the stick out of shape.
The pointed end of the stick of crayon also usually wears fiat on one side when Writing or marking with the crayon, which thus necessitates frequent sharpening thereof.
It is accordingly an object of the present invention to overcome these objectionable features in the usual type of marking crayons of this character by providing a rigid reinforcing core in the stick of crayon which is also constructed of writing material so that the Wax material of the crayon will not only be supported in a rigid position against bending or distortion and will also result in an even wearing of the crayon at the pointed end thereof, so that the tapering at the writing end of the crayon will always be maintained.
A further object is to provide an article of this character of simple and practical construction, which is durable, relatively inexpensive to manufacture, and otherwise well adapted for the purposes for which the same is intended.
Other objects and advantages reside in the details of construction as more fully hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming part hereof, wherein like numerals refer to like parts throughout, and in which:
Figure 1 is a side elevational view.
Figure 2 is a longitudinal sectional view.
Referring now to the drawing in detail, wherein for the purpose of illustration I have disclosed a preferred embodiment of the invention, the numeral 5 designates a stick of black wax material of a type usually employed as a marking crayon suitable for marking packages and the like, and having a tapered end 6.
The wax crayon material 5 is provided with a longitudinally extending cor l constructed of writing lead, the core extending from end to end of the stick.
It will be apparent that the core I Will not only reinforce the wax material 5 to prevent bending or distortion thereof, but the writing end thereof will also prevent the rapid wearing away of the tapered end 6 of the wax stick so as to prevent forming flat sides on the writing end of the crayon and thereby enable the tapered end thereof to more easily maintain its shape.
It is believed the details of construction, manner of use and advantages of the articles will be readily understood from the foregoing without further detailed explanation.
While I have herein shown and described a preferred embodiment of the invention, it will be apparent that various changes in construction may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the appended claim.
Having thus described the invention, what I claim is:
A Writing crayon comprising a stick of colored wax having a tapered Writing end and a stick of writing lead embedded in the stick of Wax and extending from end to end thereof to form a reinforcing core therefor.
ALBERT RUBENSTEIN.
