This invention relates to improvements .in trash and garbage receptacles and has for an object to provide a substantially air-tight, odorless and sanitary device of this kind.

Another object of the invention is to provide a trash cabinet having a foot-operated closure.

Another object of the invention is to provide a combined trash and garbage receptacle.

Another object of the invention is to provide a combined trash cabinet closure and trash box.

A further object of the invention is to provide in a trash cabinet 9, wall adapted to carry a trash container and also adapted to swing outwardly from the cabinet to permit removal of the container or the insertion of trash thereinto.

A still further object of the invention is to provide in a trash and garbage cabinet a swinging support for removable receptacle.

Another object of the invention is to provide a cabinet for trash, garbage, soiled clothes or other material, the cabinet having a hinged top, an inner closure member carried by the top, a hinged wall carrying a receptacle and footoperated means whereby the top may be raised and the wall swung out simultaneously.

Another object of the invention is to provide a cabinet, a swinging wall having means for carrying a container and a gravity-controlled closure within the cabinet for the container.

A further object of the invention is to provide a cabinet carrying a nest of containers therein and means whereby the containers must be nested in a certain manner in order that the cabinet may'be closed.

With the above and such other objects in view as may hereinafter more fully appear, I have invented the outfit illustrated in the accompany-r ing drawings and described in the following specification.

Like reference characters indicate like parts throughout the following specification and in the several views in the drawings in which i is a cabinet, preferably square in cross-section, and having integrally connected side walls 2,3 and t, and a removable front panel 5. To the bottom of the side edges of which are fixed hinge members 6 having semi-circular notches i in the bottom thereof which are adapted to seat on the cylindrical pin 8 connecting the walls 2 and :3 adjacent the bottom thereof, whereby said panel 5 is pivotally mounted in the front of the cabi net. Fixed to the inner surface 9 of the panel 5 and at the bottom thereof is a box-like recep tacle or carrier 10 in which is removably seated a rectangular container ll fortrash or any other material. Provided in the upper edges l2 and i3 of the walls M and i5 of said container I! are recesses l6 and I! very slightly ofiset forwardly from the vertical centers of said edges, and the purpose of said recesses is to receive the lugs 18 and i9 projecting outwardly from the upper edge 20 of the garbage container 2!. The aforesaid arrangement of the recesses l6 and Ill is in order that the bail 22, secured to lugs 18 and I9, can only overhang the front side of the container H for easy grasping, and not interfere with grasping the bail 23 of said container II when it is desired to remove the container it from the cabinet nor with the closure for the container 2! presently described.

Pivotally mounted, as at 25' on the inner surface 26 of the side wall 5 is a cam 25 having an outwardly projecting lever lug 2G with an outwardly extending pin 21 which projects through an arcuate slot 28 provided in the wall 6 adjacent the lower end thereof. To this pin is fixed a treadle 29 upon which a person's foot may press to actuate said cam. Fixed to the opposite side 30 of said cam is another lever lug 311 which carries an inwardly extending flange 32 adapted to seat under the bottom edge 33 of carrier It in order that when the pedal 29 is pressed down and the cam thus rotated, the flange will drive the edge 33 of the carrier l up, thus tilting the same and swinging the panel out, as indicated in Figure 3 of the drawings. The flange 32 normally rests on a stop ledge 33 on the side 3 and supports the carrier III. This swinging movement is limited by a stop pin 34 projecting inwardly from the cabinet wall 2, whereby the panel is permitted to move outwardly only far enough to permit the removal of the container H. Riding on the upper edge 35 of the cam 25 is a vertically disposed rod 38 which moves up and down through openings in vertically spaced keepers 31 and 38 fixed to the wall 4. The rod 36 is provided with a head 39 above which projects inwardly from said rod a finger 40 which seats in the path of the U-shaped flange 4i project- 1113 from the inner surface 42 of a closure member 43 for the garbage container 2|. The member 43 is supported by a pair of pins 44 and 45 pro- Jectlng outwardly from the side edges 46 and 41 of said member 43, said pins operating freely in slots 48 and 49 in the brackets 50 and 5| projecting downwardly from the inner surface of the lid 52 of the cabinet and to which the member 43 is hingedly connected, as indicated at 45. The lid 52 of the cabinet is hinged to the rear wall of the cabinet by means of lugs 54 extending rearwardly from the brackets 50 and 5| which operate in recesses 55 in said rear wall in the upper edge 55 thereof. The rear edge 51 of said lid extends slightly beyond said rear wall, whereby said extension forms a stop to limit the movement of the lid beyond vertical when raised. Handles 58 and 59 are provided on the opposite walls 2 and 4, for convenience in moving the cabinet from place to place.

Having now described my invention, that which I claim to be new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:

1. A trash cabinet comprising connected side walls and a front panel provided with a hinged lower end whereby said panel is swingable into opened and closed positions respectively, a container, means to support'sald container on said panel within the cabinet when the panel is closed and for swinging part way out of the cabinet when said panel is opened, an upwardly opening lid for the cabinet, an upwardly opening closure for the container, treadle operative means for swinging said panel outwardly, and means operative' by said treadle operative means for opening said closure including a vertically movable rod in said cabinet, and a cam for moving said rod upwardly.

2. A trash cabinet comprising connected side walls and front panel provided with a hinged lower. end whereby said panel is swingable into opened and closed positions respectively, a container, means to support said container on said panel within the cabinet when the panel is closed and for swinging part way out of the cabinet when said panel is opened, an upwardly opening lid for the cabinet, an upwardly opening closure for the container, treadle operative means for swinging said panel outwardly, and means operative by said treadle operative means for opening said closure and thereby said lid, said closure being.

hinged to said lid for opening against the same to open the lid with a delayed action.

3. A trash cabinet comprising connected side walls and a front panel provided with a hinged lower end whereby said panel is swingable into opened and closed positions, respectively, a container, means to support said container on said panel within the cabinet when the panel is closed and for swinging part way out of the cabinet when said panel is opened, an upwardly opening lid for the cabinet, an upwardly opening closure for the container, treadle operative means for swinging said panel outwardly. means operative by said treadle operative means for opening said closure and thereby said lid, and connections between said lid and closure whereby said closure may be opened by opening of said lid independently of operation of said closure opening means I KENNETH L.
