Referring more in detail to the accompanying drawings, thereis illustrated a clamp applying -tool,'es'pecially designed for the application of clamps incident to airplane motor'mounts and 50 said tool may be described as being of a plier 7 type embodying a pair or handles l0 and H shown for purposes of illustration'only as being of channel form in cross-section, with the open sides of the channels facing each other. it frequently occurs that the particular location for 'the mounting of; a clamp will notaccommo date theefull length of a clamp applying tool and to compensate for such work, the-present invention further embodies a clamp applying tool, the structure-of which embodies clamping jaws to whicha-pair-of pivotally connectedhandles are pivotally:v attached so 'thatthe longitudinal axis of the handles may be plaicedat :difierent angles relative to the longitudinalaxis of the pivotally connected clamping jaws to permit the clamping appropriate angle to the jaws. One form of such pivotal connection between the handles and jaws is illustrated in Figure 7 wherein the jaws l5 and II as illustrated in Figures 1 to 6 carry stub extensions [5a and Ila, each stub extension carrying a screw pin 22a directed towards each other with a ball 20a received in a socket 2m in adjacent ends of the handles Illa and Ila to form a universal mounting; relatively heavy coil springs 52 are interposed between the stub ex-5v tensions [5a and Ila and the adjacent handle so that when the handles and jaws are relatively shifted, they will retain such adjusted positions. The spring 40a is disposed between jaw I! and a side arm 31.
Another form of adjustment to vary the angularity between the jaws and handles is illustrated in Figures 8 and 9 wherein the stub extensions [5b and I?!) of the jaws carry pin extensions 53 and 54, each .pin extension carrying a ball 20b for reception in a socket 21b in adjacent ends of the handles li'ib and Ill) providing a universal connection. The connection associated with thestub extension [lb has the pin 54 rectangular in cross-section for the reception of a concaved washer plate 55, the inner face of which is radially grooved as at 5B for the reception of ribs 51 rising from the adjacent arcuate surface of the bearing end of the handle llb, a coil spring 58 being interposed between the stub extension Ill) and washer plate 55 for holding the pivoted jaw members and handles in their angularly adjusted positions. 7
While there are herein shown and described the preferred embodiments of the invention, it is nevertheless to be understood that minor changes may be made therein without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.

In a tool for attaching a clamp to an object, wherein the clamp is of strap-like circular form withrnormally :spacedxapertured' arms .carried by themclamp for the attachmentaofi holding means, said toolecomprisingxa' rigid 1 jaw: member and a cooperating .jaw member .pivotedto the rigid jaw member and pivotallyzconnected handles attached to. the jaw'members adapted to move the pivoted jawlmenriberv toward the rigid:jaw member and intoaengagement'with the adjacent clamp arm for juxtaposing the clamp arms :forattachment of the holding. In a tool for attaching a clamp to an object, wherein the clamp is of strap-like circular form with normally spaced apertured arms carried by the clamp for the attachment of holding means, said tool comprising a rigid jaw member and a cooperating jaw member pivoted to the rigid jaw member and pivotally connected handles attached to the jaw members adapted to move the pivoted jaw member toward the rigid jaw member and into engagement with the adjacent clamp arm for juxtaposing the clamp arms for attachment of the holding means, a shoe plate pivotally interposed between said jaws, means adjustably carried by the pi'votedjaw member and oper atively engaged with the shoe plate for moving with the latter into engagement with the clamp in spaced relation to the clamp arms for holding the clamp rigidly supported in the jawmembers,
