1 Claim. (01. 103-47) The present invention appertains tonew and useful improvements in double action pumps, the
same being a division of my co-pending application Serial No.501,568, filedSeptember 8, 1943. An important object of the present invention is to provide a pump of the double action type,
operated byfluid pressure and adapted to have a lifting power considerablyg'reater than pumps of the same capacity and such as are in general use today. 7
Various other important objects and advantages of the invention willbecome apparent to the reader of the following description.
In thedrawings: l Figure 1 is a side elevational view of the pump.
Figure 2 is an end elevational view.
Figure 3 is a verticalsectional view through? the apparatus.
Figure 4 is an enlarged sectional view through theautomatic valve of the apparatus.
Referring to the drawings wherein like numerals designate like parts, it can be seen that the structure, as clearly shown in Figure 3 consists of a pressure cylinder 45 and a pump cylinder 46, the cylinder 45 having a pair of pistons 41, 41 therein, connected by a piston rod 48 having a rack 49, which meshes with a gear 50, the latter, in turn, meshing with a gear 5| which, in turn, meshes with a gear 52. The gear 52 meshes with a rack 53 located on apiston rod 54 Which. pistons 55, 55 in the pump:
connects a pair of cylinder 46.
A suitable roller guide 56 is provided for the piston rod 54.
The ends of the cylinder 46 are connected by pipes 51, 58, the same being provided at their. ends with valves 59 and 60, respectively, the same i being respectively exhaust and intake valves.
well or other source of liquid to be moved.
An automatic valve generally referred to by numeral 63 is employed in conjunction with the cylinder 45 and is constructed as follows. A case (see Figure 4) is denoted by the numeral 29, and has ports 35, 3|, 32, 33 and 34. Inside of the case 29is an oscillatory element 35 having a tapered portion 36. Theexhaust or return ports 33 and 34 are in communication with a connecting pipe 31 which, in turn, is connected by a pipe 38 to the sump. The port 3| is connected by a pipe 33 to one side ofthe pressure cylinder 45,
whilethe ort 33 is connected by a pipe 40 to the other. side of the cylinder 45. A pressure line H a communicates with the valve 63 at the port 32.
The valve element 35 is controlled by an arm 4 la which extends downwardly adjacent the gear 50, and which is adapted to be moved by pins and '66 carried by the gear.
While the foregoing specification sets forth the invention inspecific terms, it is to be understood that numerous changes in'the shape, size and materials may be resorted to without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed hereinafter. l l
Having describedthe invention, what is claimed asnewis:
A pump apparatus comprising a fluid pressure circuit including apump, a double acting pump cylinder, and a double actingpressure cylinder operated by the pressure circuit and operatively connected with the double acting pump cylinder,
an automatic valve'for controlling the supply of fluidpressure from the circuit to the pressure cylinder, an operative connection between the pressure cylinder and the pump cylinder, said Pipes 6|, 62 extend from these pipe 51, 58 to a connection being adapted to operate said valve,
said connection consisting of a train of gears,.said automatic valve having an arm and pins on one of the gears for engaging the arm and actuating the valve. l
