This invention relates'to separable end stop couplings of separable fastener stringers providingkcomplete separation of the two stringers.v More particularly, .the'invention relates to an end stop. coupling having alatching element nor- Imally retaining the stringers in` coupled relation-` ship and movable into unlatched position to prothe slider in providing separation of the stringers at said end portion thereof. .` In the construction shown, the latch element comprises a plate-which fits within the longitudinal dimensions of the top wall and has at the 'outer side thereof a hooked flange 30 to engage the shoulder portion 3| of the pin part i1, as clearly seen -in Fig. 2 of the drawing.

In the normal use of the fastener, the string- I ers will be coupled and uncoupled 'by the slider i8 in the usual manner. In other words, to completely separate the stringers, the slider will be moved from the position shown in Fig. 1 in the direction o f the pin and box parts I1 and'- Is, the
contracted end ofA the slider being checked in this movement by the top and bottom walls Il and 24 as well as the wall 31. When the slider .is in this position, the pin part Il is free to be drawn through the slider` channel and the stringers are separated leaving the slider on the strinserJ i I adjacent the box part Il. In recoupling the stringere, the pin part isinoero through the slider and into the box part and the slider is then 'moved away from the pin and recoupling thelinks Il and Il.
In the auxiliary or supplemental use .of the stringere, in other words `when Vitis desirable to separate the end portionsI of the stringers having the pin part Il and box partis without uncoupling apredetermined part of the'other end portion of the' stringers, all that 'will be necessary is for the wearer to depress Vthebutton 38 which will raise the latchfelement 29 out chengagement with the pin part I1, thus providing free lateral movement of the pin part I1 through thel box part, as indicated in Fig. 3 of the drawing. The links Il and It may then be uncoupled 'by simply pulling on the stringers .to any desired degree. While itis possible to recouple the stringers by hand, it would be quicker to move the slider downwardly along vthe stringers to recouple the lower end portion of the stringers,
allowingthe pin part l1 to freely 'enter the box Dart with the latch elementI-fin raised position and thereafter the slider may be moved in the opposite direction along the stringers to recouple the entire stringer length.
' The latch element 2! may be said to comprise Y a supplemental Awall vof the box part which is interposed between vthe outer'walls and movable ltoward and from one of'these walls to vary the spacing between thewalls. However, by increasing the spacing between the wallvincludes the retaining flange which engages walls by movement of said supplemental wall; its flange clears the pin part to provide free .lateral separation of the pin'and box parts.
It will be understood that the' surface 21 of the pin portion 22' of the box part il serves as a in th direction of the wall 2|. It will thus be apparent that the pin 'part `l'|- may besnapped into locked'DOition-without having to first mandually raise the element 2l.

In separable fasteners of thetype employing l stringers, and a separable end stop at one endl 40 panion Stringer longitudinally insertable intoand of the stringers, said stop comprising a pin member anda box part, said box part having a spring biased latch adapted to engage the pin part to retain the same against lateral separation from the box part, and means o n the box part for actuating said latch to release the pin part for free lateral movement from the box part.

In separable fastener stringere employing pin and box couplings on one end thereof for a complete separation of the stringers by movement of the pin longitudinally ofthe stringers, a spring actuated latch element on the box part. engaging the pin part to retain said parts in coupled relationship, and means onv the box `part -for moving the latch element into 'inoperative position' to facilitate manual separation of said stringers by lateral Withdrawal o i the pin from the box.
