1 Claim.

This invention relates generally to brushes, and particularly to a brush for dentures.

The main object of this invention is to construct a brush particularly adapted to the cleansing of dentures with a special regard to the gum engaging portion thereof.

The second object is to construct a brush of the class described having a pencil grip and being otherwise constructed so as to make it possible o to hold the brush rmly in the hand even when the hand engaging portion of the brush is wet.

The third object is to construct a brush of the class described which will expedite the cleaning of a denture by making the point of contact between the brush and the denture easily visible at all times.

These and other objects are accomplished in the manner set forth in the following specification as illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in 20 which:

Referring in detail to the drawing, there is shown a handle I on one side of whose end II is disposed the laterally extending surface cleaning 35 brush I2 Whose bristles are preferably normal to the handle I0. On the extreme `tip I3 of the handle Il] is disposed the channel cleaning brush I4 whose bristles are substantially parallel to the handle I.

40 The end I I is somewhat thicker than the handle Il] and has provided therein a curved recess I adapted to receive the tip I 6 of the index finger I1.

It will be noted in Fig. 3 that the device is held as is a pen or pencil making it possible for the user to direct his movements with ample accuracy and at the same time making it possible to inspect the surface being brushed as much as desired.

It will be understood that the brush I2 is used for cleaning the major portion of the denture and is similar to other brushes of this type which are now in common use. The novelty of the device 10 resides in the channel cleaning brush I4 which is sufiiciently long and rigid to thoroughly cleanse the channels I8 Without having any portion of the brush end I I striking the denture with the possibility of injuring same. This constitutes one of the major hazards in connection with the use of the ordinary lateral brush for this purpose.

Brushes have been constructed in the past in which the bristles are formed on the end of the brush. A good example of which is shown in the patent of Lowd No. 158,099 wherein the bristles C are set in the end (a) of a tooth brush handle. This type of brush is not successful owing to the fact that the thrust on the brush is longitudinal and no finger grip or stop is provided for limiting the movement of the lingers along the brush handle or for preventing the nger tip from slipping off of the handle laterally. It is to overcome these conditions that we have devised our brush.

We claim:

A brush of the class described consisting of an elongated straight handle having channel brushing bristles extending from one end thereof in parallelism with the length of said handle, the longitudinal axis of said handle being offset from the longitudinal axis of the channel brushing bristle head, the odset junction between said handle and said head having a recess formed therein adapted to receive the tip of the first nger during a channel brushing operation.
