Application November 24, 1941, Serial No. 420,310
3 Claims.
The object of this invention is to devise a novel game which will have special playing appeal and educational value to the contestants, and which can be economically manufactured.
A further object of the invention is to devise a novel game, having a base provided with a spinner to determine the play to be made, and having ladders, indicative of a climb to success, rigidly Xed to the base and to a top member having a well to receive and conceal the indicating portions of play indicators.
Other novel features of construction and advantage will hereinafter clearly appear in the detailed description and the appended claims.
For the purpose of illustrating the invention, I have shown in the accompanying drawing a typical embodiment of it which I have found in practice to give satisfactory and reliable results; It is however to be understood that this embodiment is typical only and that the various instrumentalities of which the invention consists may be variously arranged and organized and the invention is not limited to the exact arrangement and organization of these instrumentalities as herein shown.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a game, em bodying my invention.
Figure 2 is a sectional elevation.
Figure 3 is a top plan view of the base.
Figure 4 is a plan view of a play indicator.
Figure 5 is a plan view of a disc.
Similar numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts.
Referring to the drawing- I designates the base of a game, embodying my invention. The base as illustrated is rectangular, and is provided with a closed top 2, having indicated thereon and circumferentially spaced the following words: Success, Promotion, Ambition, Education, Obedience, Personalty, Honesty, Loyalty. Within ninety degree segments are the words, Faith, Love, Hope, Charity. A hand or pointer 3 forms a spinner and is pivotally mounted on the top 2. Ladders 4, corresponding in number to the number of sides of the base, have the lower ends of their rails 5 Xedly secured to the b-ase near its marginal portions. The rails converge upwardly and are fixedly connected at their upper ends to a top member 6 in the form of a plate, from which depends a well 1, opening at its upper end through the top member. The rungs 8 of the ladders or the juxtaposed portions of the rails have the following identifying words, reading from the bottom to the top: Education, Obedience, Honesty, Character, Confidence, Aspiration, Promotion. The top member has indicated on it the word Success.
The well I is adapted to receive play indicators 9 in the form of paddles or strips. Fifty-six of these play indicators are employed, twenty-eight of which have indicated on them the word Opportunity. The other twenty-eight indicators are individually marked Disobedient, Untidy, Dishonest, Disagreeable, Ineficient, Lazy, Promotion, Failure. Twenty-eight discs lll are provided, having thereon the word Patience. rIhe discs are provided. with hooks Il for hanging them on the rungs of the ladders.
In playing the game, all of the play indicators 8 are placed in the well 1 so that the words thereon are concealed from View. A hook l l is hung on each rung of the ladders. Any one of theplayers may start the game, and the other players follow from. left to right as seated about the game. The rst player selects a play indicator 3 from the well. If he selects a play indicator marked Opportunity, he it entitled to a spin. After spinning, he places a Patience disc on the rung of his ladder that corresponds with the word indicated on the dial when the spinner stops. Only one spin is allowed a player upon selection of a play indicator marked Opportunity, and if he fails to select or draw a play indicator marked Opportunity, he loses his turn and the right to spin. He also loses his turn if the word indicated on the dial corresponds to a rung of his ladder that already has a Patience disc on it.
The same procedure is followed by the other players in their regular turn. The rst one who lls up all of the rungs of his ladder with discs, and then in regular turn spins the spinner so that it stops on Success on the dial wins the game. At the option of the players, the game may be ccntinued until only one player is left, who can be called the Failure.
If the dial stops on Success before the rungs of a player are filled with discs, then, he is entitled to another spin.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. In a game, a game board comprising a base, upright ladders xed at their bottoms to marginal portions of said base, and a top member fixed to the upper ends of said ladders and having a depending well for reception of play indicators.
2. In a game, a game board comprising a base, rails fixed at their bottoms to said base and extending upwardly, laterally extending rungs connected with said rails, and a top plate connected with said rails and having a well opening at its upper end through said top plate.
3. In a game, a game board comprising a multisided base, ladders corresponding in number to the number of sides and converging upwardly therefrom and xidly connected with said base at marginal portions of the sides of the base, and a top member connected with the upper ends of said ladders and having a depending well.
EDWARD V. P. ALBOSTA.
