Patented Sept. 23, 1941 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE TOY Joseph Chojmik, Whiting, Ind.
Application September 3, 1940, Serial No. 355,236
1 Claim.
My invention relates to toys and has as one of the principal objects thereof the provision of a toy equipped with a manikin with the latter operable in a manner to simulate farcical gymnastic exercises to provide amusement for both adults and children.
Another object of my invention is to provide a toy of the above described character which is simple in construction, durable in use, efiicient in operation and economical in manufacture.
Other objects and advantages will be apparent from the following description, appended claim and annexed drawing.
Referring to the drawing wherein like reference characters designate like parts throughout the several views:
Figure l is a front elevation of my invention.
Figure 2 is a sectional view taken on the line 2-2 of Figure 1 but illustrating the manikin in a different gymnastic position.
Figure 3 is a detail sectional view taken on the line 33 of Figure 1 but illustrating the legs disposed above horizontality.
In practising my invention, as illustrated in the drawing, I provide a base 5 to which is fixed the lower ends of a pair of spaced vertical standards 6, the upper ends of said standards having rotatably journaled therethrough a horizontal shaft 1 the ends of which extend an appreciable distance beyond the standards and are formed with finger pieces for facilitating manual rotation of the shaft. A manikin Ill is operably disposed between the standards and comprises a torso section ll having a pair of arms l2 pivoted thereto at the shoulders l3. The opposite ends of the arms terminate in end portions l4 fixed to the shaft for effecting rotation of the arms with the shaft.
The lower end of the torso section II is fashioned with a centrally disposed and relatively narrow subjacently extending portion I5 coacting with said lower end to define a pair of lateral abutments l6. Connected to the portion l5, by means of pivots I! are the upper end sections of a pair of legs 18, the lower end sections of which constitute feet and with the latter arranged a sufilcient distance from the pivots I! to effect engagement of the feet with the shaft when the torso section is pivoted slowly thereover by said arms. The abutments l6 are disposed a sufficient distance from the pivots I! to enable the legs to extend above horizontality when the torso section is disposed in verticality as illustrated in Figures 2 and 3, to permit rotation of said torso section and said legs with respect to said arms without said feet engaging said shaft whereby to simulate the appearance of the manikin executing a farcical skin the cat exercise during rapid rotation of said shaft.
From the foregoing, it will be apparent that I have provided a toy so constructed and arranged whereby the manikin simulates various farcical gymnastic exercises depending upon the speed at which the shaft is operated.
Without further elaboration the foregoing will so fully explain the invention that others may, by applying current knowledge, readily adapt the same for use under various conditions. Moreover, it is not indispensable that all the features of the invention be used conjointly since they may be employed advantageously in various combinations and sub-combinations.
It is obvious that the invention is not confined to the herein described use therefor as it may be utilized for any purpose to which it is adaptable. It is therefore to be understood that the invention is not limited to the specific construction as illustrated and described as the same is only illustrative of the principles of operation, which are capable of extended application in various forms, and that the invention comprehends all construction within the scope of the appended claim.
What I claim is:
A toy of the class described, comprising, a pair of spaced standards, a straight one-piece shaft rotatably mounted in said standards and structurally integrally formed with a pair of spaced laterally extending arms interjacent said standards, a manikin freely swingable between and by said arms upon rotation of said shaft and formed with a torso section, shoulder pivots pivotally connecting the outer ends of said arms to the shoulders of said torso section, said section fashion-ed with a centrally disposed subjacently extending portion coacting with said section to define a pair of lateral abutments, a pair of rigid members each composed of a thigh, leg and foot, pins pivotally connecting the thighs to said portion subjacent said abutments, said members being of a length, between the bottoms of the feet and the axes of the pins, substantially coincident with the length of the arms between the axis of the shaft and the pivots whereby said feet effect momentary engagement with the shaft when said torso section is pivoted slowly over said shaft by said arms, said abutments being disposed a sufficient distance from said pins and coacting with said members to enable the latter to extend a sufficient distance above horizontality when said torso section is disposed in verticality to permit rotation of said torso section and said members with respect to said arms without said feet engaging said shaft and to engage said members to preclude complete rotation of said members with respect to said torso section during rapid rotation of said shaft and thus simulate the appearance of said manikin executing a farcical partial skin-the-cat exercise uponrelease of said feet from said shaft.
