Description
June 28, 1938. G. L. DE GIVE 2 PAGE TURNING TAB Original Filed Nov.. 21, 1934 Patented June 28, 1938 t-122.00g PAGE -E t Gertrude L. de Give, Atlanta, Ga.
Application November 21, 1934, Serial No. 754,155
I Renewed November 24, 1937 4 Claims.
The present invention relates to a tab attached to an object, said tab to be engaged for permitting quick and convenient movement of the object, and aims to provide a novel and improved device of this character more especially designed for use on pages of sheet music, books,
pamphlets and the like so as to facilitate the turning of pages withoutdamaging same, such as tearing or the like. I
1o Another object of the invention is the procorner of a page ofa book or the-like, constructed and arranged so as to present the maximum surface for adhesion to the page, without obstructing the printed or reading matter thereon.
A further object ofthe invention is toprovide ,a, tab of tough and durable material, cut and folded so that the natural tendency of a portion thereof is to extend outwardly away from the page for quick and easy engagement thereof.
, It is also an object of the invention toprovide a tab of the character indicated, which is simple and substantial in construction, which may be manufactured economically, and which will bethoroughly eflicient and practical in use.
With the foregoing and. other objects in'view, which will be apparent as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the construction and arrangement. of parts, as hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes can be made within the scope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the invention. I i
The invention is illustrated'in the accompanying drawing, wherein:-
t Figure 1 is a perspective view of a portion of sheet music, showing my improved tab attached to a page thereof,
. Figure 2 is a plan view of a blank from which the tab is constructed,
Figure 3 is a plan view of a corner of a page with the tabthereon,
Figure 4 is a section on line 4--4 of Figure 3,
and
ing adhesive thereon for attachment to an object.
Referring to the drawing the numeral I 0 indicates a, book, pamphlet, sheet music, or the,
like, having pages ll therein. The illustration is of a music book, the pages of which must be turned very quickly during the playing of a musical instrument, so as not to cause interruption in the music being played.
In carrying out my invention, the numeral I2 designates a flat blank of tough and durable mavision of a tab attached to the lower right hand Figure 5 is a perspective view of the tab,'show-' terial, cut with all sides an equal length and in the form of a perfect square. The blank has a fold l3 therein extending in a straight line to opposite corners, dividing the square blank l2 in two triangular portions, the adhesive portion 14 5 and the engaging tab portion [5.
' The under surface of the triangular portion I4 is secured to, the page I I by means of adhesive l6, with the free corner of the portion l4 flush or even with the lower right hand corner of the 10 page I I, as shown in Figures 1 and 3 of the drawing.
By folding the blank in the manner above described the engaging tab portion I5 is arranged above the portion l4, and due to the fact said portions and I5 are of the same piece of material, one folded upon the other, the engaging portion l5 will sit up at an angle from the fold l3 with the free corner thereof away from the corner of the page, which permits easy and quick engagement thereof.
As the entire under surface of the portion M of the blank I2 is fixed to the page I I, it can be seen that the maximum amount of surface is present for attaching the tabto the page, with- 25 out interfering or obstructing the printed matter on the page, as shown in Figures land 3 of the drawing.
Various sheet music is rather expensive, and, due to the fact it is necessary to turn the leaves or pages very quickly, often the same are damaged. It is for this reason the present invention will be found very useful, as the same not only relieves the liability of damaging the leaves or pages, but permits the turning thereof quickly so as not to cause improper timing in the music being played.
Adhesive l6 may be applied to the triangular portion l4 prior to the marketing thereof, so that the articles may be sold ready to be attached to pages by merely moistening the adhesive and applying slight pressure to the portion l4 and the page. However, it is understood that the articles may be aflixed to the pages or leaves when the sheet music, book, pamphlet or the likeis sold by the publisher.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new is:-
i 1. A tab in combination with a leaf of a book or the like, comprising a triangular shaped member, means for attaching one edge of said member to the leaf, with the other two edges free and aligned with the edges of a leaf at a corner thereof.
2. A tab in combination with a leaf of a book or the like, comprising a square blank folded from corner to corner to provide a pair of triangular shaped portions, and means attaching one of said portions to the leaf, with the free edges of each portion parallel and substantially flush with the edges of a leaf at a corner thereof.
3. A tab in combination with a leaf of a book or the like, comprising a square blank folded from one corner to an opposite corner to provide a pair of right angled triangular portions attached together at their acute angled edges caused by forming said fold, and means attach-j" ing one of said triangular shaped portions to a lower of said triangular shaped portions.
