Description
April 5, 1938. w H EHRHORN 2,113,043
TTTTTTTTTTTTTTT LE INVENT OR ATTORNEY.
WALTER H. EHRHDRN.
Patented Apr. 5, 1938 UNITED STATES PATENT 'OFFICE 1 Claim.
The present invention relates generally to improvements in plumbing fixtures and has especial reference to improvements in bath tub recepticles or adapters to take place of the usual so- 5 called "rosette" or overfiow drain of the bath tub.
The principal object of the present invention is to provide a device of the class designated that may be employed to facilitate the taking of a bath in that the same allows the bath tub to be filled to a point above the usual "rosette of the tube thereby enabling the person taking a bath to entirely submerge the body.
Another object of the invention is to provide a device of this character that when employed in bath tub construction saves considerable water in that the overfiow of water is considerably conserved.
A still further object of the invention is to provide a bath tub fixture of the class described that enables the bather to cover his body to the shoulders with the hot water.
An additional object of the invention is to provide a device of this character that may be easily and readily applied to any bath tub.
Additional to the foregoing objects is that of providing an appliance of the class described that is of unique form and that is so designed that the same prevents a person from cutting his fingers or injuring his hands. p
Additional to the foregoing objects is that of providing a device of the character set forth that is simple in construction, and that may be easily and readily stamped from sheet brass or like material.
It will thus be observed that I have produced a device of the character set forth that may be utilized in bath tubs for utility purposes as well as one that adds to the attractive appearance of 40 the tub.
It will also be noted that I have provided means for holding a tub full of water so that the bather may have his entire body covered with water in taking a bath.
This invention also overcomes the makeshift practise of placing tape over the usual overfiow or drain in the ordinary bath tub.
The accompanying drawing illustrates the preferred form of my invention and in which:-
F'igure 1 is a front elevation showing the preferred form of the invention as applied to a bath tub; and
Figure 2 is a sectional detail taken on the line 2-2 of Figure 1.
Referring particularly to Figure 1 of the drawing it will be observed that I have shown my improved device in connection with a bath tub 5 in which the conventional hot and cold taps 6 and l are illustrated.
The overfiow shield 8 is shown over theoverflow pipe 9 and said shield is held in position by means of a screw lo which screw is tapped into a lip ll formed in the mouth of the overfiow pipe i2.
The preferred form of the shield is shown in the drawing and includes an upper perforated or slotted section l l and a lower section having a plug i5 positioned thereon so that water may be drained from different levels in said shield and may be discharged from the bath tub overfiow [2 as desired.
Usually when a person is in the ordinary bath tub the water is constantly running out of the tub thru the ordinary overfiow, and especially is this so when a person lies down in the tub and 30 it is, therefore, my object to provide an overfiow that will retain the water at a higher level in the tub and a device that may also be adjusted to regulate the water level in said tub.
I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States the following:-
In a device of the class described, a bath tub receptacle comprising a shield capable of covering the overfiow of a bath tub and having a slotted upper section and an imperforate lower section, a plug arranged in the imperforate section of said shield to regulate the overfiow of water from said tub, and screw means for retaining said shield in fixed position.
WALTER H. EHRHORN.
