Description

Dec. 14, 1937. T, R, KUGLER 2,102,363
BATHING SUIT Original Filed Aug. 22, 1952 m f/vm'e 76 500025 2 Ava/5e Patented Dec. 14, 1937 2 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE Application August 22, 1932, Serial No. 629,857 Renewed April 15, 1935 8 Claims.
My invention relates to articles of apparel, and particularly to bathing suits and the like.
When a bather desires to remove his bathing suit and put on his clothing it is necessary that he completely remove his bathing attire before dressing. At most beaches and public bathing places bathers are not allowed to change their clothing in tents, automobiles, etc., but must rent a. dressing room.
. It is an object of my invention to provide a bathing or similar suit which will permit a bather to partially dress and subsequently remove his bathing suit from under his clothing.
Further objects and advantages will be made manifest in the following description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, in which:
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a preferred embodiment of my invention being worn by a bather.
Fig. 2 is a rear view of the bather and suit shown in Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is an elevational view of the suit shown in Figs. 1 and 2 as it appears when unfastened with the various parts thereof extended.
Referring particularly to the drawing, a bathing suit Ill, comprising a preferred embodiment of my invention, includes a front or main portion ll. Formed integral with portion II is a pair of shoulder straps 12, the free ends of the latter being formed to provide buttcnholes l3. Sewed to opposite sides of the portion II are suitable buttons M, as shown in Fig. 3. Formed integral with the front portion II and extending outwardly therefrom are hip covering flaps 16. Joined to the front portion II by a crotch member I9 is a breech covering 20. Sewed at its top edge to the front portion II and at its opposite vertical edges to the hip covering flaps I6 is a conventional skirt 2|, a similar skirt 22 being provided in like manner on the breech covering 20.
Fixed on opposite vertical edges of the flaps l6 and breech covering as by stitchings 24 are slide fasteners 25 comprised of stringers 26 which carry a plurality of interlocking members 21. Slidable on the members 21 are slides 28. The fasteners 25 are common in the art, these being preferably of the type in which the stringers can be completely separated as is disclosed in U. S. Patent No. 1,842,045.
To put on the suit I0 01' my invention a bather first places the straps l2 over his shoulders, crosses the straps onhis back as shown in Fig. 2, and buttons the free ends of the straps onto the buttons ll as shown in Fig. 1. The breech covering 20 is then drawn rearwardly between the legs,
the member [9 covering the crotch, as shown in Fig. 1. The upper ends of the fasteners 25 are then brought into proper engagement and the slides 28 are drawn downwardly, thus causing the interlocking members 21 to be guided into interlocking engagement in a well known manner.
When the bather desires to remove his bathing suit, he puts on his trousers and shirt, leaving the shirt unbuttoned. Then by pulling the slides 28 upward the members 21 are disengaged freeing u the breech covering 20 from the hip flaps l6, thus allowing the covering 20 to be drawn forward between the bathers legs. Then, by unbuttoning the. straps 12 from the buttons It, the entire suit In may be removed from the bather, it being clear that the bathers body is substantially covered by his trousers and shirt whilethe suit 10 is being removed.
It is seen in Figs. 1 and 2 that the suit ID of my invention is novel in appearance and securely embraces the bather, it being also clear from the foregoing description that the suit H] can be conveniently removed by the bather in public places without the expense and inconvenience of renting a dressing room. 25
Although I have shown and described but one form of my invention, it is to be understood that various modifications might be made therein without departing from the scope of the appended claims.
I claim as my invention:
1. In an article of swimming apparel, the combination of: a front body covering; a. plurality of straps secured to said front covering, said straps being adapted to embrace the wearers body; 3 means for removably securing the free ends of said straps to said front covering; hip covering flaps formed on said front covering; a breach covering; a crotch member joining said breech covering with a lower portion of said front covering; and means for-attaching or detaching said breech covering to or from said hip covering flaps.
2. In an article of swimming apparel, the combination of: a front body covering; means for removably securingthe upper portion of said 45 front covering to the wearer's body; hip covering flaps formed on said front covering; a breech covering; a crotch member joining said breech covering with a lower portion of said front covering; and attaching means provided on opposite vertical edges of said hip covering flaps and said breech covering, said attaching means being adapted to removably secure said breech covering to said hip covering flaps in embracing rela- 5 tion with the hips and upper portions of the wearer's thighs.
3. In an article of swimming apparel, the combination of: a front body covering; means for removably securing the upper portion of said front covering to the wearer's body; hip covering flaps formed on said front covering; a breech covering; a crotch member joining said breech covering with a lower portion of said front covering; attaching means provided on opposite vertical edges of said hip covering flaps and said breech covering, said attaching means being adapted to removably secure said breech covering to said hip covering flaps in embracing relation with the hips and upper portions of the wearers thighs; and skirt portions secured to said breech covering and said hip covering flaps.
4. In an article of swimming apparel, the combination of: a front body covering; single fastening means provided on opposite sides of the upper portion of said front covering; a pair of shoulder straps formed with and extending upward from said front covering; means on the free ends of said strapsto engage with said fastening means when saidstraps are disposed in embracing relation with the wearer's body; hip covering flaps formed on the lower portion of said front covering; a breech covering a crotch member joining said breech covering with a lower portion of said front covering; and means for removably securing vertical edge portions of said breech covering to vertical edge portions of said' hip covering flaps.
