.This invention relatesto improvements in' the so-called corset orgrdle type foundation garment. which is particularly designed as a control for the junior figure so as to maintain thediaphragm and stomach of the 'wearer in fiat position without regard to her posture. V i

It is known to construct a girdle type garment of two-way elastic material and various devices have been used in the construction of such garments to restrain the diaphragm and stomach from protruding and-spoiling the desired fiat effect which is essential with modern dress models.

My invention has for its object to provide an improved fiexible foundation garment with a novel control for the diaphragm and stomach of the active young figure without in any way detracting from the extreme flexibility of the garment. A

A further object of my invention is to provide means in the waist band of the garment to prevent rolling.

I accomplish these objects by means of a foundation garment" of fiexible or two-way elastic material having an inner bias X-shaped belt 'at the front to control the stomach of the wearer and hold it in -fiattened condition irrespective of the posture of the figure. As a further accomplishment of the object of this invention, I provide the upper marginal portion of the garment with spaced stiifening pieces which prevent waist-line roll.

One embodiment of my invention is described in the following specification, set forth in the appended claim and illustratively exemplifled in the accompanying drawing; in which:

Fig. 1 is a perspective View of the garment as it appears on the wearer;

Fig. 3 is a substantially transverse sectional View taken on lines 3-3 of Fig. 2.

Referring to the drawing, denotes a tubular foundation garment consisting of a back and side panel H and a front panel '2. The two panels are made preferably of two-way elastic material in order to give a maximum of flexibility to the garment so necessary for the support of the active junior figure. However this same fiexibility allows the diaphragm and stomach 'of the wearer to assume a more or less rounded contour which is particularly accentuated and undesirable when the wearer is seated. It is therefore in the means used to restrain the stomach that the present invention resides.

'The means by which I bring about this restraining condition, comprises two strips of oneway elastic webblng '3, which are arranged one over the other in the form of an x and stitched together by a row of stitching 'I running between the upper and lower points where the strips cross, The two strips '3 .form a belt which is longer than the width of the front panel and which has its ends stitched in the seams '5 formed by the joints between the two panels I' and '2. This brings the line of stretch of the strips '3 on a blas with respect to the transverse lines of the garment and allows two folds to form adjacent the ends' of the strips '3 when the garment is off the wearer. The position of the belt is closer to the top of the garment than to the bottom and .it is disposed on the inside and against the front panel '2 in the area of the diaphragm and stomach of the wearer, so as to exert a four-way control or flattening effect upon the diaphragm and stomachby allowing the back and side panel Il to take up and support the ends of the belt while the flexibility of the garment and particularly that of the front panel '2 is unimpaired.

The upper end or top of the garment "n is provided with circumferentially spaced longitudinally arranged pockets '6 accommodating stiffening pieces I", which form stays' to prevent waist-band rolling, The usual fiat garters '8 are secured to and depend from the bottom of the garment.

By arranging an X-shaped blas belt '3 on the inner side of the front of a fiexible girdle of the style described, the diaphragm and stomach of the wearer is firmly controlled and maintained in fiat condition regardless of the posture assumed by the wearer.

Having described my invention and the manner in which the same is worn, what I claim and desire. to secure by Letters Patent is:

' A garment of the character described comprising a front section and a back section, both of two-way stretch material, and an elastic support for the abdomen and diaphragm of the wearer extending transversely inside the front section, said support consisting of two strips of one-way stretch elastic webbing crossing one another at an angle, the ends-of said strips being arranged in pairs, the ends of each pair being disposed contiguous and in substantially longitudinal alignment and being attached to the front section along lines substantially longitudinally thereof; the length of the strips being greater than the distance between their points -oi' attachment.
