Description
UNITED STATES PATENT OEEIoE.
JOHN DAYMON, OF EDDYSTONE, PENNSYLVANIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN DETERGENT COMPOSITIONS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 203,712, dated May 14, 1878; application filed February 23, 1878.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN DAYMON, of Ed dystone, in the county of Delaware and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Electric Paint Cleaners aration, I will now proceed to describe the same. I
I first take two quarts, or thereabout, of the bran of wheat, rye, or corn, or acombination thereof, as may be found desirable, and add thereto about five quarts of soft water, rainwater being preferred. I then subject the mixture to the process of boiling about one hour. After the boiling is completed I strain the mass thoroughly and place the liquid in open bottles, where it is permitted to ferment about forty-eight hours, when the bottles are closed and the preparation is ready for use.
I use this preparation by applying it upon wood or paintwith a soft rag or sponge, and after such application is made I rinse the wood or paint so treated lightly with cold water.
Gilt surfaces may also be treated profitably with my preparation, care being taken to rub the same lightly and to rinse and wipe with unsoiled cloth.
The preparation is found to be efficacious in cleansing wood'and painted surfaces, and it also serves to preserve such surfaces by forming thereon a hard glutinous coating.
I am aware that bran and hot water have been used for cleanin g varnished surfaces, and therefore make no claim to such mixture.
I am aware that the use of bran-water for cleansingpaints is not new with me, and therefore make no claim to the invention thereof and I am further aware that beer is a valuable liquid for the purpose named.
What 1 claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The cleansing and preserving preparation described, consisting of the bran of wheat, rye, or corn mixed with water and treated by boiling, straining, and fermenting, substantially as described.
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
JOHN DAYMON.
